At the end of my class, I make my way to the Divination classroom, hoping to see professor Trelawney. I find her in her classroom cleaning up.
"Um, professor?" I call, making her turn to me.
"Oh, yes dear?" she asks.
"I heard you're really good at seeing the future. Would you be able to see mine?" I ask.
She takes my hand and runs her fingers around my palm, but looks at me sadly, smiling weakly.
"Darling, you are very noble, but I'm sorry"
"What? What do you see?" I ask.
"Something best left in the future" Trelawney says.
I nod confusingly, but leave the room, catching up with the trio.
"You don't think that Grim thing's got anything to do with Sirius Black, do you?" Ron asks.
"What's the Grim?" I ask.
"An omen of death" Ron says.
"Let me guess, Harry got it" I say and he nods his head.
"Oh, honestly Ron. If you ask me, Divination's a very woolly discipline. Now, Ancient Runes, that's a fascinating subject"
"Ancient Runes? Exactly how many classes are you taking this term?" Ron asks.
"A fair few" Hermione says.
"Hang on" Ron stops, all of us stopping and turning to him "That's not possible. Ancient Runes is the same time as Divination. You have to be in 2 classes at once"
"Don't be silly, Ronald. How could anyone be in 2 classes at once? 'Broaden your minds. Use your Inner Eye to see the future'" Hermione mocks, laughing.
Once we get to Hagrid's hut, we see our class already there.
"That's it. Come on, now. Come closer. Less talking, if you don't mind" Hagrid says as he tries getting the class together "I got a real treat for you, today. A great lesson. So, follow me"
Hagrid leads us into the forest, and stops. He turns to us.
"Right, you lot. Less chattering. Form a group over there. And open your books to page 49"
"Exactly how do we do that?" Draco asks in a rude kind of tone.
"Well, just stroke the spine, of course. Goodness me" Hagrid says.
I stroke the spine of my book, then take off the belt that keeps it closed.
"Don't be such a wimp, Longbottom" I hear Draco say, so I turn in that direction.
Neville is getting eaten by his book.
"I'm okay. Okay" Neville says.
"Don't be so rude" I say to Draco, going to Neville.
"Ooh, got a little crush, have you?" Draco asks, smirking.
"He's my friend. No offense, Neville" I say.
"None taken" he says as I stroke the spine of his book, then help him up.
"I think they're funny" Hermione says as I go to her and the other 2.
"Oh, yeah. Terribly funny. Really witty. God, this place had gone to the dogs. Wait until my father hears Dumbledore's got this oaf teaching classes" Draco says, Crabbe and Goyle laughing along.
"Shut up, Malfoy" Harry says as he confidently struts to him.
Draco and his 'gang' do a little owl hoot before he gives his bag to Crabbe, then struts to Harry, looking him up and down and biting his lip. He then looks up and starts backing away, pointing to the sky.
"D- dementor! Dementor!" he yells, making me, Harry and the other students turn.
There's nothing there.
He then starts laughing and puts up his hood, putting his hands forward and oohing. Hermione runs Harry away, giving Draco a nasty look.
"You're supposed to stroke it" Ron says to Neville, who appears with shredded robes.
"Yeah"
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"I'm okay"
Hagrid coughs to get our attention, everyone turning to him. He makes a trumpet sort of sound and gestures to a giant horse/eagle/Pegasus creature.
"Isn't he beautiful" Hagrid asks.
He throws a dead animal, maybe a ferret, at the creature and it catches it in its mouth, eating it.
"Say hello to Buckbeak"
"Hagrid, exactly what is that?"
"That, Ron, is a hippogriff. First thing you wanna now about hippogriffs is that they're very proud creatures. Very easily offended. You do not want to insult a hippogriff. It may just be the last thing you ever do. Now, who'd like to come and say hello?" Hagrid asks as he claps, turning around.
I immediately raise my hand, putting my Monster Book of Monsters on a rock behind me.
"Well done, Harry and Y/N, well done" Hagrid says, making Harry look back. I do the same and everyone is behind us "Well, Harry, you come first. Come on, now" Ron pushes Harry forward lightly, making him walk slowly towards Hagrid "Now, you have to let him make the first move, it's only polite. So step up. Give him a nice bow. Then you wait, see if he bows back. If he does, you can go and touch him. If not... well, we'll get to that later. Just make your bow" Harry stops and bows "Nice and low" the hippogriff starts freaking out and flaps it's wings "Back off, Harry. Back off" Hagrid says quickly.
Harry backs away, but steps on a branch, snapping it. We all gasp, but Harry stops.
"Keep still. Keep still" Hagrid says.
Buckbeak makes a noise, then tilts his head to the side lightly. He bows.
"Well done, Harry. Well done. Here, you big brute, you" Hagrid says, throwing another animal at Buckbeak to eat.
Harry stands upright and breathes out heavily.
"Right, I think you can go and pat him now" Hagrid says, making Harry turn to him "Go on, don't be shy" Hagrid says.
Harry slowly starts walking up to Buckbeak, who stops and looks at Harry.
"Nice and slow, now. Nice and slow. Slow" Harry puts his hand up to pet Buckbeak, but Buckbeak tries biting him, making Hermione gasp and hold Ron's wrist.
I chuckle and smile at their cuteness as Hermione awkwardly pulls away.
"Not so fast, Harry" Hagrid warns "Slow down, Harry. That's it. Nice and slow" Harry retracts his hand quickly "Now let him come to you" Buckbeak starts walking forward and sniffs Harry's hand "Slowly, now. Slowly. Slowly" Buckbeak comes forward and touches Harry's hand, Harry petting the side of his beak "Yes. Well done. Well done, Harry, well done!"
"Does he get to fly?" a student behind me asks.
"I think he may let you ride him now" Hagrid says, going to Harry.
"What?" Harry asks, but Hagrid picks him up, taking him to Buckbeak's side.
"Come on" Hagrid says.
"Hey! Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey. Hagrid!"
"Put you over here, just behind the wing joint" Hagrid puts Harry on Buckbeak, who squawks "Don't pull out any of his feathers, 'cause he won't thank you for that"
Hagrid slaps Buckbeak's butt, making Harry cling onto Buckbeak and Buckbeak to move, running towards a small stone wall. Buckbeak begins to fly, Harry yelling as he ascends. I smile at Hagrid and he smiles back, excited.
After a while, Buckbeak comes back, flying around the trees 'till Hagrid whistles, calling him over. He listens and fly's down to us, landing where he had taken off and running down to where he was before.
"Well done, Harry, and well done Buckbeak" Hagrid says as we all cheer for Harry and Buckbeak.
"Oh, please" Draco says and pushes through the crowd.
"Draco, what are you doing?" I ask, but he ignores me.
"Yes, you're not dangerous at all, are you, you great ugly brute" he says as he goes to Buckbeak, but Buckbeak jumps up to his 2 feet.
Draco quickly shields his face, Buckbeak scratching his arm.
"Draco!" I call and run to him while Hagrid calms down Buckbeak "Draco, are you okay?"
"Get away from me!" Draco yells and pushes me away, making me fall backwards "It's killed me! It's killed me!"
"Calm down. I- it's just a scratch"
"Hagrid! He has to be taken to the hospital" Hermione says, walking forwards.
"I'm the teacher. I'll do it" Hagrid says and picks Draco up bridal style, walking towards the castle.
"Oh, you're gonna regret this" Draco says.
"Class dismissed!" Hagrid says, quickly turning to us before continuing on.
"You and your bloody chicken"
Hagrid goes and I sit up, my hands on my legs at they are bent like an upsidedown v.
"Are you okay?" Neville asks me as he has his hand out.
"No, but I'll manage. Thank you Neville" I say, taking his hand. He helps me up.
"What are friends for?" he asks, making me smile.
