Memories

Y/N POV: It looked like a funeral, all of our photos were placed on a table with candles and flowers. "They were so young and talented... How could this happen?" A voice spoke. "It looked like...an accident. They were running away from that group." The voice said. "...Was it really just an accident though? I honestly can't believe that." The voice spoke.

My vision returned to normal as I felt like everything that I had knows up until now was all a lie. How...does my sister think I'm dead? Is she okay?

"Ah! Wh-Why? Why was I...at my own funeral?" Shuichi questioned. "What!? A funeral... You, too, Shuichi!?" Tsumugi screamed. I felt like I was going to pass out, too much...everything is way too much. "It would appear we all remembered the same thing." Kiyo said as he too had a nervous look on his face. "But what the fuck does it mean!? Why was I watching your guys' funeral!? A-And...why was I there, too!? Wh-What the hell is goin' on!? What was the funeral...?" Miu questioned. "But...the only thing I can remember is seeing that funeral. Nothing else..." Kiibo admitted. "Maybe...we already dead!?" Gonta yelled. Dead...me? No, I-I cant be! I need to live! "Ahahahahahaha! No way! Geez...this is so stupid, I couldn't help but laugh. I mean...there's no way that was our memory of our funeral..." Kaito said. I felt myself calm down a little but deep down the anxiety of the situation was still there. "Then what was it?" Shuichi questioned Kaito. "It was probably...a memory of our school festival or something." Kaito said. "School festival?" Tsumugi mumbled. "Yeah, it was probably a memory from a play we did for the school festival or something. I mean, isn't it obvious if you just think about it? If that funeral was real, there's no way we'd still be alive!" Kaito yelled. I...don't remember ever going to a school festival, he would never have allowed me to, I think my sister did though, she always did get more privileges than me.

"Nyeeeh...that's true." Himiko said. "But aren't we all from different high schools? Why would we have a school festival together?" Tenko questioned. "Th-That's...we'll probably remember something else about it later. Anyway, there's no way that funeral was real! There's no mistaking that!" Kaito yelled. "You're right... If we think about it logically, that's clearly out of the question..." Kiibo said. "Okay...good. Gonta think that everyone was already dead." Gonta said, a hand on the back of his head. I felt like I was going to pass out at any moment, if there's a single possibility that my sister is hurt or thinks I'm dead I don't know what I'm going to do, why...? I've been a good person all my life...why am I going through this? I just want to go home, I-I'll do anything to get out of here, a-anythi- "Stop saying stupid stuff! Look at me, I'm alive! Hale and hearty!" Kaito yelled. "Hardy! Cuz you get a hard-on every time you see me?" Miu said. "Oh, I heard males can tell they're healthy by how hard they get in the morning! Is that true!?" Tenko questioned. "Hey! St-Stay in your lane, bitch!" Miu yelled at the aikido master. I took a deep breath, just calm down Y/N, don't think about that. "...Th-That process is normal and healthy for men of all ages, it's usually the result of one of several processes from brain relaxation to changes in your...um, hormone levels as you sleep." I answered. "I guess you're the Ultimate Librarian for a reason, huh?" Tsumugi said. I felt my face flush with embarrassment, why did I say that? I could've said anything, even staying quiet would've done me a bunch of favors.

"Aw maaan, what a disappointment..." Kokichi said. "A disappointment?" Shuichi repeated. "Nyeeeh...it's true. This Flashback Light was a real letdown... We didn't find out anything about the Ultimate Hunt. Just some weird memory." Himiko pointed out. "Yeah, seriously. Talk about a disappointment..." Kaito sighed. "No, I'm not talking about the memory. I'm talking about you guys..." Kokichi said. "What...?" Shuichi mumbled in confusion. "Oh, no! It's nothing! I'm just lying again, so don't worry about it!" Kokichi yelled. I often think that Kokichi should just stay quiet, though being called a disappointment isn't something I'm not used to, being called it again is just a reminder or how much of a coward of a person I truly am. The new memory however didn't really tie up any loose knots, though I think that it's all just a big picture that is yet to be completed, just like a famous painting or a new novel, it takes time to complete, but I'm sure that it will make sense eventually. Though...the want and desire to get out of here isn't going away. And that's scaring me more than anything else right now.

After the rather intimidating experience, we all ate a meal and returned to our dorm rooms. I think I have enough free time to talk to two people today. Perhaps I should talk to Gonta, I do want to teach him new things after all, and I did promise him that I would do so, I think he should be at his Ultimate lab. I began to walk to Gonta's lab and after opening the doors I was now face to face with the extremely tall individual, I was never short but he sure does make me feel short. "Oh, Y/N! Perfect timing! Gonta need to ask you something! Gonta know we not dead...but Gonta not know what school festival items is for...We gonna hold a fake funeral? Why we gonna do that?" Gonta asked me. "T-To be completely honest, I never went to a school festival." I admitted. "N-Never...went to one?" Gonta questioned. "Th-Though my sister did tell me how they were, she told me that there's usually a bunch of activities that you can do there, there's plays there's music from the bands and usually food and sometimes the drama kids get to preform a play. Only people from that school can attend however. I never went to one because I...was usually occupied with other things." I explained. Would it be awkward for me to give him a gift now? Despite hesitating a little I dug my hand in my pocket and searched for a gift. I handed Gonta a picture book of animals. At least he wont have to worry about reading it.

"What? For Gonta? Thank you, Y/N! Gonta not get gifts often... Gonta happy! Very Very happy! Y/N! Teach Gonta how to be gentleman!" Gonta yelled. "M-Me? I-I don't know, Gonta. I'm well versed in a lot of things but this isn't really one of them." I mumbled in embarrassment. "I-I've never really talked to girl or even a boy much before. There have been a few encounters but they never...um, went anywhere." I lied. "Oh... Not even Y/N can teach Gonta..." Gonta said, looking down at the ground sadly. "Mhm." I said. I feel bad now, I need to cheer him up a little. "H-Hey, Gonta? Why are you so focused on being a gentleman?" I asked him. "...For forest family. Time in forest make Gonta forget human ways. People start to worry about Gonta. Say Gonta not know how to socialize." Gonta admitted. That would make sense. "Gonta rejoin human family but...Gonta not really feel accepted. Human family treat Gonta like their own, but... They not accept forest family." Gonta said. "D-Didn't accept them? What do you mean?" I asked Gonta. "Gonta not know whole story... All Gonta know is, Gonta's human family very famous, very respected." Gonta admitted. "A-Ah, really?" I questioned. "So they get mad at Gonta. Say Gonta not worth of family name. They blame Gonta's forest family. Say it all their fault." Gonta said. I've been told that I wasn't worth much many times, but either way, they still should've accepted his other family, they took care of you for a decade, that was truly an awful thing to say. "Gonta love forest family. Forest family very important to Gonta. And Gonta love human family, too. Gonta love human mother who birth him. So Gonta want human family to accept forest family... So Gonta think, become true gentleman! Then human family accept forest family! And...forest family also be proud of Gonta! See Gonta become such great gentleman! Gonta not smart, but he think about this a lot! Is good idea, right Y/N?" Gonta asked me. "That...sounds like a good idea, Gonta." I said. "Thanks! Gonta feel more confident if Y/N approve! Gonta gonna work hard to become true gentleman!" Gonta yelled. Does he really need someone like me to approve such an idea? I...guess I could help, though every time I think about it my mind always travels to that situation. I guess that's the thing I'm scared of.

I waved goodbye to Gonta before making a direct walk to Kiyo's lab, he has to be in there. I can't wait to see him again. I opened the door to his lab and I was pleased to see him there. As I walked up to him I could tell that he was pleased to see me too. "Ancient Egypt, Babylon, Greece, Rome... Many cultures have ways to speak with the dead. Many seances have been created all around the world. The Caged Child being one of them." Kiyo said. I listened to Kiyo as he talked about seances. I wanted him to teach me more, even if I knew about them in advance I still wanted him to teach me. "...Field work?" I mumbled. "Also known as surveying, fieldwork is very important to anthropology. Hearing legends recounted firsthand, recording tools or lifestyles... For this, I've traveled across the nation." Kiyo told me. "A-Across the nation? I imagine that would be quite interesting." I said. "Kehehe... I was able to discover fascinating things every day. The latest topic piqued my interest are customs related to ropes." Kiyo said. My mind began to travel. "R-Ropes?" I mumbled. "I've found that many regions in Japan customarily use ropes to welcome guests. Why, I wondered, were there such similar customs in such distant places?" Kiyo said. "It is an interesting topic." I admitted. "That said, there are differences in how ropes are used. In one region, guests tie up women. In another, the guests are tied up." Kiyo said. It's a certain way to greet someone. "I was tied up so tightly during my visit that I nearly passed out." Kiyo said. "That...doesn't sound very nice." I admitted. I knew about this kind of subject but I don't think I've ever heard about someone else talk about it.

"Kehehe, your understanding is yet shallow. That was only the beginning. As I was tied up, they whipped me. It was such a warm welcome." Kiyo said. I almost choked on air, I don't think that can be called a welcome at that point. "This experience opened up the door to a new world within me... After passing through that door... I was able to reunite with someone taken from me by death. That was the greatest welcome I could've possibly received. Kehehehehe... Such an experience will grow your love for anthropology. I want that for you." Kiyo said. "I-I mean, if that's what you want, then I'll study hard. Though it may take me a while to understand your views and the basics." I pointed out. "Oh, indeed. It is useless without basic knowledge. I'm glad you understand. In any event, I would like to take you along on fieldwork one day." Kiyo admitted. I felt happy upon hearing that. No one wanted to take me anywhere before, what a dream it would be to go somewhere with Kiyo. "A-Anything you want to do, I'll most likely end up doing it. There are so many secrets to discover." I said, a small smile on my face. "They are...not necessarily secrets. We merely live our lives distanced from such knowledge. Y/N... To tell you the truth... Even if it isn't for fieldwork, I wish to travel the country with you. I want to show you the beauty of humanity as I know it." Kiyo said. A sense of happiness that I simply cannot describe with words rushing through me, I felt the joy that I was feeling rush to my face as I could feel it burning up. "...I-I would love to go with you, Kiyo. I-If you're there then I'm sure we'll have fun, no matter what." I said, a full smile placed on my face, there was no need to pretend when he's around. "Kehehe... It makes me so very happy to hear you say that." Kiyo said. Korekiyo's eyes were so gentle and kind. Someone has ever made me feel this way before. I'm unsure why I feel so happy, but for the first time in my life I finally have a true bond with someone who wasn't my sister, I'm...so very happy. "Perhaps I might consider you my first disciple, then? Kehehe...I never imagined having a disciple so soon." Kiyo admitted. Korekiyo and I talked about what we both wanted to do when we got out of here. I told him that I wanted to stay friends no matter what happened. I felt myself almost cry out of pure joy once I left his Ultimate lab. Kiyo's disciple...I like that title, I never thought I would be happy to be inherently under someone...but right now...I don't care. I was smiling without a care in the world. Nothing mattered now but in the best way possible. I sat in my dorm room trying to keep my very little composure however Kiyo's words repeated themselves in my head over and over till that's all I could think about.

Once the nighttime announcement played I jumped to my feet and walked to the courtyard, with a relaxed look on my face, it's nice to not worry about anything, seeing Shuichi in the distance I walked up to him as Kaito hasn't arrived yet. "Ah, Hello Shuichi." I greeted the detective. "Oh, hello Y/N." Shuichi said.

I saw that Shuichi's eyes were focused on something behind me so I turned around to see Kaito. "Hey, sorry I was late. I had trouble bringing her." Kaito said. "Her?" Shuichi mumbled. It was only then that I saw that Maki was with Kaito. "Maki? Why is Maki here?" Shuichi questioned. "...That's what I'd like to know. Someone kept buzzing my intercom and I got so fed up, I finally opened the door. Then this guy grabbed my arm and dragged me all the way here-" Maki explained. I mean- if Kaito wants to bring someone else to join us then I'm not going to complain. "Well, don't worry about the small stuff! If we're going to train, it's more fun with four people than three, right?" Kaito questioned. "Training? The four of us? Is that really the reason you dragged me here? This is stupid... I'm going back." Maki said as she had already turned her back to leave. "Heh...you callin' this stupid? Listen up! When a hero has to fight with a big enemy, they train, train then train some more! That's what this training is! It's important for a hero like me. So you guys can be like super dog, cat, or horse by my side to help me be the hero!" Kaito yelled. "Of all the examples you could have picked..." Shuichi sweat dropped. "Did you really think that crazy explanation would convince me to stay? This is still stupid... I'm going back." Maki said. "Hey, hold on a sec... When I said I was the hero, that's just from my perspective. Even super pets think of themselves as heroes. The same goes for you three! Each of you are the heroes of your own stories! So act more like it!" Kaito yelled. "I don't know what you're up to...but I told you three to stay away from me. You know this will end badly if you don't, so why are you being so difficult?" Maki asked.

"How long are you going to run away?" Kaito questioned. "...What?" Maki sweat dropped. Kaito brought his face closer to Maki's. "Your mask is coming down... I could tell just by looking at you today. You're not the terrifying person the others think you are... You're just a coward. Hey, what's your enemy?" Kaito asked the girl. "...Huh? My enemy?" Maki questioned. "You don't need to tell me what it is, as long as you know it yourself. So how long are you going to run away from your enemy?" Kaito asked. "...Run away?" Maki sweat dropped. "Yeah, you've been running away. It's pretty pathetic. But...if you want to stand against it, even a little... I'll train with you! So you can be strong!" Kaito yelled. Maki just looked as if she was getting angrier. "So what are you going to do!?" Kaito yelled at Maki. "Hey, Kaito... It's okay, you don't have to-" But before Shuichi could finish talking Maki had already beaten him to it. "...Fine, I'll do it." Maki said. "Huh? You'll do it?" Shuichi mumbled in confusion. "Don't get the wrong idea. He'll just bug me about it later if I refuse." Maki pointed out as she played with her hair. "Heh, so you do get it!" Kaito yelled. "...The only way to deal with idiots like him is to just give up and keep nodding." Maki pointed out. "Y-You don't get it at all! Whatever...you just better get ready. I won't hold back just cuz you're a girl." Kaito said. Odd, even when I was pretending that I was a girl he didn't pose as much of a threat...maybe it's his goatee.

"...Well, what are we doing first?" Maki asked. "Alright, first 100 push-ups!" Kaito yelled. After taking off my coat I joined in. Shuichi already looked like he was struggling. "Hah...! Hah...! Hah...!" Shuichi grunted. "N-Not bad...Shuichi... You're getting...better!" Kaito pointed out. "H-Hey Kaito...no slacking today, yeah? I'm counting your reps!" Shuichi yelled Kaito. 43, 44, 45. "Heh, I'm on fire today. I can easily do 50 push-ups!" Kaito yelled. "I thought we were doing a hundred!" Shuichi said. "Hey, what about you, Maki? A hundred might be too hard for you, so-" I turned my attention to Maki who wasn't breaking a sweat. "96, 97, 98." Maki counted "Wha-!? That fast!?" Shuichi yelled. "100...I'm done." Maki said as she stood up and brushed the dirt off her hands. "Y-You're done already?" Shuichi sweat dropped. I finished a little after Maki and sat down on the grass, putting my coat on.

"I'm done too." I said. "Y-You two aren't even out of breath... I guess you've trained before, huh?" Kaito said. "Aren't you breathing a little too hard? It's not like we really pushed ourselves." Maki pointed out. "B-Before coming here, I did some warm-ups... I already did 500 push-ups, so..." Kaito mumbled. I held back a laugh, what a sadly obvious lie. "Anyway, I'm done and you can't say I didn't train with you. I'm going back to my room." Maki said. "Okay, we're doing training tomorrow, too! You better be there!" Kaito yelled at Maki who didn't even bat an eye as she turned her back and left. "Geez, why's she gotta be so difficult?" Kaito mumbled. "Hey, Kaito...why did you do all of this? To help her?" Shuichi questioned. "Hm? If someone's weak, you help them out. Teamwork's important for astronauts. If someone's weak and suffering, there's no way you can just leave them!" Kaito yelled. "Weak and suffering? Maki!?" Shuichi sweat dropped. "I'm unsure whether or not that's the correct choice of words." I said. "Well, in that case, you two- No...your cases are a little different." Kaito said. "What do you mean?" Shuichi questioned. "N-Nothing! Anyway, let's keep going. You're still in the middle of your push-ups, right?" Kaito said. "So are you." Shuichi pointed out. "Weren't you listening? I already did 500 push-ups before I got here." Kaito said. "...Pft- nice try, Kaito." I chuckled. In the end Kaito said that he didn't remember how many push-ups he did. I told the duo to just start over and that I would be counting for Kaito. They were both exhausted by the time they reached 100.

I walked to my dorm room a lot happier than I would've been under normal circumstances. I plopped myself backward on my bed and with a sigh, my mind began to run. It's odd that Kaito brought Maki to train with us but it isn't the worst idea that I've heard, I can see what he's trying to do. I adjusted my clothes into something more comfortable and brought my bed sheets over me. And right as I was about to fall asleep I thought about Korekiyo and what he had said to me earlier. I want to travel with him once we get out of here, oh how happy that would make me, I'm sure that she would be proud of me, the only place that I would want to go to is where he is, no matter where he goes I'll be sure to follow him, just close enough to hold...n-no. I felt my cheeks get dusted with blush but despite this, I fell asleep.

I woke up a little early and got dressed for the day, about 10 minutes later the morning announcement played, it said something about assembling in the gym and I immediately got a bad feeling about it. If it's not for the Flashback Light then it must be a new motive, I doubt it will be a good one, if it has nothing to do with my sister then nothing can convince me to kill someone, even the motive videos were pretty weak in that department. I sighed as I began to walk to the gym waving the Kiyo as I left the dormitories. Once I made it to the gym it was exactly like when we first walked into the library after Rantaro's trial, clean. No signs of anything being moved or being tampered with. Almost like Kirumi and Ryoma never existed. "Ugh, man... I'm tired as fuck. I was up all night fixing that computer." Miu huffed in annoyance. "Ah, you took a look at the computer on the 4th floor? What do you think?" Shuichi asked the inventor. "Yeah...I only started working on it so I don't know the full specs, but... That thing...is pretty good. I mean, it's so intense it just won't let me sleep." Miu said and she blushed. Kiibo was looking down at the ground as if he was in thought. "Kehehe...are you jealous?" Kiyo asked Kiibo. "...Of course not. I would never be jealous of a computer." Kiibo sweat dropped. "A robot jealous of a computer? It seems just plain possible." Tsumugi said. "Hey guys, am I sleepwalking or something? What's she doing here?" Kokichi asked, directing his gaze towards Maki.

"Oh, I see! I'm hallucinating! After what Maki said before, there's no way she'd be here!" Kokichi yelled. "Don't say something so stupid. You'll never get to know her better if you never talk to her!" Kaito yelled at Kokichi. "Maybe everyone would prefer that! Maybe everyone would prefer that this dangerous killer stays far away from us! Of course, I wouldn't prefer that at all!" Kokichi yelled. "You better cut it out!" Kaito yelled, growing angrier by the second. "He's right. Murder and death have no place in a peaceful academy life." Angie said. "Nyeeeh...it's just like Angie said." Himiko said. "Yeah...it's just like Angie said." Tsumugi agreed. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. But before things could go further Gonta burst into the gym with an alarmed look on his face. "Everyone! It serious!" Gonta yelled. "Oh, no... The Colossal Insect is on the other side of the wall, isn't it!?" Kokichi yelled. "No, not that. Gonta went to courtyard before coming here and-" Before Gonta could finish talking a certain pair of bears showed up.

"Rise and shine ursine-! Thanks for bearing with us!" The Monokubs yelled in unison.

"C'monnnnn, what is it? Why'd you call us out here all of a sudden!?" Monotaro yelled in anger. "We're the ones who called them out! Did you forget that, too?" Monophanie questioned. "LETS-WORRY-ABOUT-MONOTARO...LATER, AND-PRESENT-THE-MOTIVE-NOW." Monodam said. "Ah, so it was the motive after all." I sweat dropped. "Nyahaha! It doesn't matter what the motive is, we will not do the killing game anymore." Angie said as she clasped her hands together whilst smiling brightly as ever. "Th-That's right! We aren't afraid of anything anymore!" Tenko yelled. "...Because we have Atua." Kiibo said. I beg your pardon? How can someone spread their religious beliefs onto other people so quickly? It's only been a few days.

"But it's no ordinary motive. This motive will inspire fear like never before." Monophanie said. "Fear like never before?" Kiyo mumbled. "IF-YOU-FACE-A-FEAR-LIKE-NEVER-BEFORE-YOU'LL-HAVE-NO-CHOICE...BUT-TO-UNITE. NOW, FOR-THE-MOTIVE-THAT-WILL-CAST-YOU-DOWN-INTO-THE-DEPTHS-OF-TERROR..." Monodam trailed off. "...We'll present it together!" The Monokubs yelled in unison. "This time, the motive is called the transfer student! Yep! A new student is transferring! And not just any transfer student..." Monotaro said. "You get to resurrect one of the four people who've died so far...and welcome them back to the academy as a transfer student!" Monophanie yelled. "...Welllll?" Monotaro questioned. What...kind of motive is that? Someone would have to be very desperate to get motivated to kill by something like that.
