Truth

Elena had called everyone to come to the Salvatore Boarding House so she could tell about the plan that she had. So after the school day ended, they all gathered at the house. All of them were on edge, wanting to know what their friend wanted to talk about. And the first to break the eerie silence was a peppy blonde vampire.

"Why did you want us to meet here, Elena?" Caroline asked, confused as to why they were here. She had other places she wanted to be. Like continuing to plan for Homecoming.

"I have something we might be able to use as leverage against the Originals." Elena answered, causing all of the others to be intrigued. "Or more specifically Rebekah and maybe Klaus."

"Well, spit it out." The emotionless Stefan told her, desperately wanting to know.

"The self-defense teacher at Mystic Falls High School. Elliot Barnes." Elena told them.

"And how does that help us?" Damon asked. He remembered the spit fire of a teacher. And damn did she pack a punch.

"Rebekah lives with her."

"She lives with a teacher?" Bonnie asked, incredulously. She couldn't fathom the idea of a student living with a teacher, let alone a vampire leaving with a human teacher. It didn't make any sense to the young witch.

"They seem like they are close and then on prank night..."

"She's right," Matt interjected, "At prank night she handled Klaus. She got him on his knees and escaped from him. Bonnie was there too."

Then everyone looked at the Bennett witch, "They're right. She defeated him, made him seem weak."

"What the hell is she?" Caroline asked, but then realized how rude it came across when she saw the looks she was getting from everyone.

"What blondie means is a human, even at their strongest, could take on a normal vampire, let alone an original, a hybrid at that." Damon said, clarifying what the blonde vampire had meant by that.

"If all that is true, then how does that help us?" Matt asked, clearly processing everything slower than the rest of them. Then realization dawned upon him, "You think she could help us kill Klaus."

"Exactly." Elena said with a grin. She was over the moon with the fact that there would finally be a way to kill the man that killed her. Kill the man that had a hold over her life, over Stefan's life, over everyone's life.

"It's a good idea, Lena," Bonnie began, "But why would she even help us?" The witch then scoffed, "She comes into town and she keeps her head down. She never talks to many people. Rebekah is the one person she has talked to a lot since has been there. The only person that the woman seems to trust and care for in this town is Rebekah, so why would she help us kill the brother of Rebekah?" She then paused, "It doesn't make any sense for us to help and you all know that."

After her words were spoken, all of them seemed to be lost in thought. What Bonnie said was true. There wasn't a way that this woman, Elliot, would want to help them kill Klaus. Sure, she may have not liked him a lot when she met him when he was last in Mystic Falls. But what about that would make her want to kill him, especially now that she had befriended Rebekah, Klaus' sister.  And that just lessened the chance even more.

That was until someone broke the silence with an idea.

"We could kill her if she doesn't help." Damon offered with his usual smirk.

Caroline snorted at the idea, "You didn't see her. She is a complete badass who took on a thousand year hybrid with ease...she would destroy you before you even had a chance to try."

And then the silence overtook them again. Once again, they knew what had been said was true. There was still no reasonable way that they could leverage her into helping them.

"Why can't they just ask her to help us?" Matt inputted. "She might help us without having to threaten her." He then shot a pointed look at the raven haired vampire.

"Like that will happen." Damon scoffed. "Let's just threaten her."

"She won't do it, Damon." Caroline retorted, but still no one agreed with her. "Like I said, she'd probably kill you or everyone before you even got the chance to kill her." She repeated herself.

God, they really were daft.

"Chill out, blondie. She's just a simple high school teacher."

"Caroline's right. We don't know anything about her." Matt agreed with his ex.

"So then what the hell do we do?"

Elliot walked into her apartment exhausted. It was what happened each night and each afternoon she would get home. She would be on the brink of passing out, but wouldn't let herself sleep. Not until she couldn't function anymore. It made sure that she didn't have more sleep. Because more sleep meant more nightmares.

Rebekah then walked in behind her and watched as Elliot did her locks on the door and then shoved the chair underneath the door knob. Something she now was able to do, not worrying about the paranoia and questions that ensued within the blonde vampire.

The brunette then made her way into her little kitchen and began brewing herself a pot of coffee. As she was adding the grinds to the machine, she began to speak, "Look...I know you probably have questions. That much can be assumed from how your acting, but you don't want to ask them because you think that I'll get mad and that you'll be passing a line that isn't meant to be passed," Elliot then paused in her speaking as she began messing with the buttons on the machine, "But I don't mind answering a few...but before that I'll just tell you a few things first." She finished off and then looked towards the blonde, who seemed intrigued by what she was saying.

"Are you human?" Rebekah asked, unable to stop herself. She had been wanting to know ever since the petite brunette had taken on her brother. It wasn't something vampires could do, let alone a normal and ordinary human.

Elliot chuckled at the question, only furthering raising confusion within the Original. "I'm human. I have always been human. No supernatural anything about me."

The brunette then stopped talking and went into the fridge to get almond milk and creamer. She then added it to her rather large cup of coffee, before pouring herself another cup. And then with the black coffee she quickly chugged it, wanting it solely for the caffeine. She then turned back to Rebekah the other cup that had creamer in it in her hands.

"I-" She began to speak again, but the ringing of her phone went off. Looking at it, it was her best friend again, probably calling to check in on her. It was their usual routine. Call late at night and then call later in the afternoon, the redhead still concerned for her best friend's wellbeing. It was very motherly of her.

"One second. I have to take this." Elliot said, grabbing her mug again and then began walking out of the kitchen to go to her room. But before she could, she turned around and looked back at her new found blonde friend.

"Let's just say, I'm not twenty-five."

"Hey Nat." Elliot greeted her friend as soon as she entered her room and closed the food behind herself.

"I called to make sure you were okay."

"I know. You do it everyday." She then said into the phone. "And I love you for it, but I'm okay."

Natasha scoffed on the other end, "And just how many cups of coffee did you have to drink to be 'okay'?"

"Uhhhh...let's not answer that question." Elliot replied.

"Cut the crap, babe. You can't keep living like this. You get maybe three hours of sleep each night, like eight hours total for the week. You then jack yourself on gallons of caffeine, which is not good for you at all and then you don't sleep until you pass out." She then took a deep breath after her rant, "So I'll ask again...how many cups of coffee are you on?"

Elliot sighed in defeat, "There were the four pots from this morning at the coffee shop. Then there were the five cups that I had at the school...wait scratch that, it was seven cups at school. I drank one large Ellie sized mug when I got home and I'm drinking one right now."

"Jesus Christ, El. You're going to kill yourself if you keep it up."

"No I'm not, Nat. I've been doing this ever since I escaped and I'm fine. I'm stronger than your average human, you know that."

"Bullshit, Elliot! You're killing yourself!! Just let yourself sleep!"

"I can't sleep! I can't." Elliot broke down. "I remember their voices. Their pleas for mercy as they begged for their life. The sounds of them choking on their blood. I remember everything...and when I sleep...I relive it all. Every. Single. Night."

And then she hung up the phone and collapsed onto the floor, a crying mess. Her best friend was right....she was killing herself.

Only moments later, Elliot recovered from her breakdown. She wiped her tears away from her eyes and headed out of her room. Little did she know that Rebekah had heard what she had said to Natasha.

As soon as she made her way out into the kitchen, she stared at her still full cup of coffee before staring at the drain in the sink. Glancing back and forth between the two, having an inner battle with herself, then she settled on the sink and dumped her cup down the sink.

"I know you heard my phone call." Elliot sniffed. "And you probably think I'm a killer...but I'm not." She then got and went back to her room and returned with a rather thick book in her hand.

Elliot then placed it on the counter in front of Rebekah; however, her hands were still on the book.

"I'm ninety-four years old." Elliot told her not to look at her, dreading to see her reaction. "I've been twenty-five since 1954. I'm not a vampire. I'm not a part of the supernatural." She then took a deep breath before pulling off her gloves and then her jacket.

Rebekah gasped in shock. But not because she saw the metal arm, but because of the scars near where it met her skin. She then looked back at her friend who had tears in her eyes even as her face held an emotionless look.

"Everything you need to know is in there." Elliot said, removing the hands from the book. "Read it or don't. The choice is yours."

She then departed from the kitchen and went into her bedroom, closing the door behind her and collapsing into her bed.

It seemed she would never be able to escape her past.
