So warm. I snuggle into the warmth more. A hand bopped me on the head making me sit up to meet (Y/N)'s glare.
"What?"
"Can you not nuzzle my bosom?" She huffed
"You are the one who made me lay here" I roll my eyes as she gets up.
Before I know it I'm out shivering in the cold while she is looking around a dark path, "Can't we go back to bed??"
"Not until this issue is solved" she finally got up and started walking towards a nearby well.
"What issue is that?" I huff
"Him" she smiled at a man who sat by the well twirling a coin in his hands
"And who might you be?" He smiled kindly
"You can call me (Y/N)" she smiled back keeping a distance
"Would you like to make a wish in the well?" He offered
"I don't believe so sir. It appears you have water weeds in your hair" she pointed out
He chuckled lightly running a hand through it to pull a few out, "It appears i do"
"Is this your well?"
"No just simply where I like to sit and have a chat"
"Chatting with strangers is dangerous you know"
"I know the dangers but enjoy the stories" he extended his hand, "I am Merkel"
I watch her eye the hand before shaking her head, "How many fall for such a trick?"
The mans smile fell before returning more sinister, "More than you'd think"
"Um... can I get in on the situation here?" I call out confused
"Well Keigo. You are looking at a water horse" she explained, "Better known as a Kelpie"
"Are you here to convince me to leave?" He stood
"Depends on your intentions" she shrugged
"I have to eat" he chuckled
"The village has fish and ram"
"Not as good as mortal flesh" he sighed
"Wait wait, he eats people?" I grimace
"He is fae, it's regular" she shrugged, "I understand your hunger but not your means. This well of where the town comes to drink"
"A perfect place for me to be" he chuckled
"I will ask again and give you till tomorrow to relocate"
"Then I'll see you at the suns rest"
She turned on her heel forcing me along again, "Can I get some context?"
"What more do you need? He is a kelpie who has invaded the towns well. Any who touch him He drowns and consumes"
"Can't he just go somewhere else?"
"He can, if he's not stubborn" she huffed.
Readers POV
I need to get supplies and morning is already peaking through the horizon, "Keigo, you are going to help me sell my wears today"
"Sell what?"
"What's I've gathered from my travels"
I grab my satchel from the room and head to the market.
"What do you sell?"
Keigo is going to make this hard isn't he. No one wants to buy from a demon...he also still wears raggedy pants. This won't do.
I grab my purse counting what I've got... should be just enough.
I hop into tailor shop that just opened, "Scuse me maam I am in need of a nice pair of trousers, a pressed shirt, and a good hat if I may?"
The woman smiled before seeing Keigo follow in behind me, "Y-you sure ma'am? I don't, don't think we serve his...kind here" she spoke meekly
"Hes as docile as a mouse" I pinch Keigos cheeks in my hand smiling as he raises an eyebrow at me
"Hes got horns maam" the woman did exasperated, "A demon in my shop? Pah get 'im out. They haven't the control to be in my shop"
I sigh summoning the chain into sight as I grab Keigo by the collar, "Then it's a pleasure to meet you, I'm control" I turn to Keigo with a smile, "I know you'd love to tear this place to pieces but I won't let you...for now"
The woman's eyes widened and she quickly gathered the clothing.
"You're sure this'll fit? You haven't even taken the proper measurements" I glare
"I promise maam!" She squeaked flinching
I eye the clothing seeing a changing room door. I shove them to keigo and point to the room, "Go change"
He huffed but did so. It was a good while before he returned in proper dress.
"Turn" I spin my finger. He did so when I noticed 2 giant rips in back for his wings, "Keigo, you ripped it!"
"How else am I supposed to wear it then?" He growled
"Fine fine. Call it good" I put down the proper coin on the counter, "Have a good day"
"You both be Damned" the woman meekly hissed from the corner of the shop.
I finally set up a blanket and start setting out my wears.
"What is all this?" Keigo kneeling down with me looking genuinely curious
I smile getting comfortable sitting on the blanket watching him settle as well, "Different things. Potions for illness, I have trinkets from other places I've traveled, I even have some things that suit fae buyers but im not selling that here of course. Crystallized magic does them no good"
"What do I have to do?" Keigo raised a brow
"1" I fix his hat so from the front you can't see the horns, "Look human, and 2, be a man" I sigh leaning on his shoulder
"What does that mean?" He muttered
"You see as a woman selling these wears most don't believe in their authenticity. A man however~"
He hummed seeming to understand, "What am I supposed to say to them when they wish to ask questions?"
"That's why I'm here" I speak lowly so only he can hear
A man walked up looking at a necklace.
"15" she whispered
"15" I repeated and the man dug in his pocket purchasing it.
It was amazing getting all these sales. Things were smooth sailing until one particular customer, "Love potion? Does it really work?"
"How else you think I get a beauty like this on my arm" I adlib in
"She ain't that pretty, does it only work on the ugly ones?"
I didn't even realise it till I did it. I smacked the man right in the jaw gaining many peoples sudden attention, "Id watch what I say Mr, beggers like you can't be choosers, especially for someone's who's eyesight is as bad as yours bloody are!"
(Y/N) grabbed my arm stopping me from pursuing the man when he turned tail and ran, "Not the time, help me repack the bag"
She was so calm packing everything up and heading out. Even when we turned the corner to hear the same man with 2 other authoritative voices.
She didn't talk the whole way to the inn. Her face like stone a light smile to those who walked by.
Once in the room she finally exploded, "I told you what to say" she grabbed my chain tugging me infront of her, "Do you know how embarrassing that was for me?"
"Im...sorry?"
"You sleep on the fucking floor" she seethed before going to lay down.
We wake up again to head back to the well. I feel exhausted again but this tired is different. Not in body but just in mind. Tired mentally of everything around. Not to mention my wings ache from the hard floor.
We make it to the well and she speaks up, "I see you're still here"
The fuck? No ones here? A second later the world had to prove me wrong when a man sitting on the roof of the well spoke up.
"Would you not like some music?" He lifted his fiddle
"I know better than to listen to your tune
"You aren't like other mortals are you? You smell different" he slid off the roof infront if us
"Final chance" she warned
"You can't kill fae can you?" I whisper lightly to her
"Im not moving, my hunger has only grown since I've come here and no where else could support me"
"To the east is a lake you can dwell. Many older couples frequent there" she offered
"Ah but here i get all ages" he leaned on the well
"I can promise the ages of romance and greed"
"But nothing compares to the flesh sweetened by inexperience"
Wait...children? This sixk fuck stays here so he can eat children???
"Demon lad," he addressed me, "Can you not agree?"
"He is a naive Lad to this world" she moved closer to me, almost in a protective manor
"Am not" I scoff, "I ate a few chickens" I mumble more to myself.
"You should revert those time you stole" she hissed
"Like I bloody ever. I don't regret it one bit, never will" he smirked
"Then parish" she suddenly pulled a odd metal thing that made a large explosion of sound.
The man was pierced by something that moved faster than I could see and he stumbled back to the well. He melted slowly into a goopy heep.
"What the fuck was that!!?"
She cleaned her weapon putting it back in a strap on her leg and started walking again, "I hate killing blood"
"It went bang! And he melted!!" Her hand clamped over my mouth making me flinch
"Shut your yap. It's late in the evening and children are sleeping"
"What was that?" I speak quieter
"A silver bullet can kill a Kelpie. They turn to a jelly material after. It's a shame to have to kill him but it happens"
"Aren't Kelpie horses?"
"They are shape shifters. They take many forms. Young men, unicorns, white or black horses, a fiddler even. Whatever can draw their victim in"
"How pathetic" i laugh, "they have to shift to draw humans in"
My collar gets yanked roughly drawing me down to her level, "Dont you ever say that about another Kelpie again" she hissed
"Fine! Fine" I panic until she shoves me away letting go.
Great. She's pissed now. What the hell did I do? She killed that kelpie but I can't say shit about him? What is her deal.
Once we get back to the inn I notice many creatures wondering the downstairs. All only about 3 feet tall. Their pointed ears and brown skin and clothes. Earthy creatures.
"Hey. The fuck are these?" I address it.
One hurried to come hug (Y/N), "These are Brownies, they must have sensed my presence in the vicinity. Return to your homes, I am not of need for your services" she shooed them off many hurrying out in waves while one clung to her leg.
"You heard her, get" I glare at the little thing before it huffed and left
"We have to leave in the morning after I'm paid by the priest"
"I just don't get it i guess" I roll my eyes
"I attract fae, like a magnet. We have to keep on the move" she hurried to the room
"How?"
"My blood?" She shrugged getting in the room and laying down.
"Does it have something to do with your magic?"
"To an extent"
I lay down with her going back to how we were the first night enjoying the feeling of her hand in my hair. I didn't realize how lonely the floor was until now. I wanna sleep here more, "Explain?"
"Im fae and can use fae magic" she hummed
I flinch looking up at her, "What?"
She patted my head back down, "Its a long story"
"I like stories" I muse laying on her comfortably
She hummed with a sigh, "My father is a Kelpie, my mother is half selkie"
"The fuck...how does that even happen?"
"My grandmother was a normal selkie. She loved the land. Human culture fascinated her. One day a local fisherman caught her in a night out. Even while drunk he chose not to take advantage of her and care for her through the night. In the morning she was gone. Weeks later he was out fishing and the boat capsized. My grandmother saved my grandfather before returning to land with him to have a family" she smiled
"And the kelpie?"
She chuckled lightly, "A story for another time?"
"That's not fair. Selkie are just seal women and aren't murderous as kelpie. I want to know how a person has kids with a being that eats their people"
"My mother is half selkie so I don't think she conciterers man her people" she chuckled.
"Do you?"
"To an extent" she hummed, "Man is an ever changing force. You can learn a lot from them. Lessons that a fae can never learn even with a life span 3x that of your average mortal"
"Like?"
She sighed, "lets sleep while we can"
"One last question"
"Fine"
"What is this called" I inquire
"What?" She looked at me confused
"This? Laying together like this?"
"I guess this would be concitered cuddling" she laughed lightly, "I would figure an ex angel would know"
"I didn't get to interact with humans. I didn't know their culture or understanding. Only once I turned demon did I hear a few things. Once I came here it wasn't long after you found me" I admit freely
"Do you wish to learn more?" She spoke lighter than before, she's starting to fall asleep
I nod absently feeling the tiredness wave onto me
"I'll teach you what I can. Humans and the faefolk" her hand pet my hair and I felt sleep fully consume me.
