"My momma didn't want a funeral so that's why we ain't have one" serenity told me as I did some tribal braids on her hair for her 14th birthday tomorrow
"Oh okay. So you good though?"
"I think so. I don't know"
"Well you gone feel like that cause it's still new but I wantchu to do two things for me. The first one is never let nobody discredit how you should feel. If you feeling sad, angry, or whatever don't let them tell you you're doing too much or that you're not doing enough. The second thing is promise you'll talk to somebody Grieving is not a short term thing and it's not a continuous thing. You might feel okay one minute and the next you might wanna scream or cry and that's okay"
"That's what Kay's sister Yasmine told me. She gave me her number and told me i could talk to her anytime cause she know how it feels to hold it in"
"She don't talk to nobody?"
Serenity shook her head "she said she don't wanna bother Kay and they other sister with her problems cause they got lives and her daddy don't ever wanna listen to her"
"That's not good at all"
It got quiet as I continued her hair
"You know Ms Dena said I could still live with her"
"Why you sound surprised? You thought she was gone make you leave or something?"
She shrugged "I don't know. The only family I got now is benji and he already got a lot of kids to deal with so I though I was gonna be sent away"
"Girl no. I could've told you that wasn't gonna happen. And besides you got Nunu too right?"
"That's benji cousin on his daddy side. I talk to her a couple of times but I never really was around her that much cause my momma ain like benji's daddy family"
"I thought y'all had the same daddy"
"No. Our older brothers got the same daddy then it's benji and then me" she explained and I looked at her confused
"Y'all got other brothers?"
She nodded "one dead and one in jail"

She unlocked her phone and went to Snapchat and as she did so I realized this girl had a 12
"You got the iPhone 12?"
"Yeah. My other phone got messed up in the accident so Kay and benji got me this one yesterday"
She started sliding over her messages but didn't open them completely while sighing
"Everybody keep sending me these sad messages since last week and I'm just now seeing them" she told me before going to her memories and clicked on the most recently saved video which was of her and her mom in the car singing Cupid by 112
"I took this video right before we got in the accident and I don't know why but I keep looking at it over and over again."
"If it makes you feel better then keep looking at it as much as you want"
"I'm ready to see your kids when you have some. I know they hair gone stay done" she randomly told me causing me to choke on my own spit
"Oh shit girl" I coughed. " don't curse me like that"
"You don't want kids?" She laughed
"Chile no. That's why you gotta be like me and stay a virgin"
Serenity turned around causing me to stop the braid
"Just because I'm thirteen don't mean I'm stupid. You know that right?"
"So you tryina say you don't believe me"
"All I gotta say is I know you used to date Meechie"

Serenity turned to face the front again "okay mj"
"You know what" I said as I started her hair again "you act just like yo brother"
"I hear that a lot and ima take it as a compliment cause my brother smart"
"Yeahhhh he is. But sometimes he can have his moments"
"I believe it" serenity laughed "you should've seen him when I was teaching him a dance in Tik Tok last night"
"Tik Tokkkk? Let me find out benji out here dancing"
She nodded while going to Tik Tok and showed me the video and I couldn't help but laugh. Meechie, I could see him dancing around and stuff but benji, he most definitely is a sucker for his sister, kids and Kay because ain no way this nigga making a Tik Tok
"Not benji out here dancing" I said as serenity laughed, showing me some more videos they made last night

"Your daddy need to hurry back witcho brother so I can take a good nap cause I'm tired little girl" I told Brielle while I sat on the floor beside her. She rolled over in her back and looked at me while sucking on her pacifier
"You're such an advanced premie princess"
Brielle spit the pacifier out of her mouth smiling as somebody knocked on the door. I got up to get it and opened the door seeing it was Kay holding Kyran and Ari
"Please talk to this girl because she is freaking out for no reason" Kay laughed as they came into the house and she put Kyran down
Kyran looked around before walking off going to the kitchen
"Well hey to you too then" I said to him but he ignored me and kept walking "where kinsley and Hendrix?"
"You know kinsley at the house up under her daddy and Hendrix up under my momma, still milking that broken arm"
"You know that boy been spoiled before the broken arm"
"Yeah but somehow it's worse"
I laughed and sat back down on the floor while they sat in the chair
"How benji and his sister doing?"
"Serenity okay. You can tell she tryina be strong but she still a little girl that was extremely close to her momma. And benji.. i can tell it ain really hit him yet. Like I know he knows but he do focused on making sure his sister and everybody else good and tryina fight reality. And I'm just worried about when it hits him"
"Poor benji. I feel so bad for him cause you can tell him and his momma had a close bond"
"They did" Kay nodded and got quiet for a minute before looking down at Brielle "hey aunties pretty girl!"
She picked Brielle up and looked over at Ari "in a couple of months you gone have one"
"Yeah. In a couple of months ima go from being as big as a damn whale to pushing a wholeeee human out of my vagina possibly causing it to tear just for my child to come out looking like it's daddy"
I kinda gave her a concerned look before looking over at Kay
"She okay?"
"She had to go back to the doctor today and they gave her an ultrasound. She said the baby got Meechie's whole head shape"
I couldn't help but laugh as Kyran came back into the living room with a bag of chips. He handed them to me
"How you got these?" I asked and he fiddled with his fingers waiting for me to open them. Once I opened the bag he wasted no time sticking his hand in, grabbing one
"Tata" he told me, tryina to say thank you then sat on the floor beside me eating the chip and rested on hand on my lap making sure I don't move with the chips
"Leave it to my son to just walk in people's kitchens and grab a snack. He does that at my momma's house, ari's house, Meechie's house, here, London's. Then the other day we went to see Nunu, this nigga never been there before but guess what he found his way to.. the kitchen"
"Kyran said he gotta eat"
"Kyran gone have people thinking we don't feed him... but what we was talkin bout? Ari"
"It seem like the first ones always look like their daddy. Look at Hendrix. Jr. I wouldn't be surprised if this baby come out looking just like Meechie, especially as much as he get on your nerves" I said to Ari
"Watch. I feel like my baby gone be up under its daddy and ima be the damn third wheel"
"Welcome to my world" Kay muttered as the door opened and jr walked in with shy behind him
"Her Booty big daddy" jr was saying while shy laughed and I rose my eyebrow
"Excuse me? Good afternoon. How was school?"
"Jr always talkin bout some damn Booty" Kay shook her head
Jr took his book bag off, sat it beside the chair and walked over to me but not to give me a hug. Instead he reached in the bag of chips and grabbed some before sticking one in his mouth
"Ma I gotta new girlfriend"
I couldn't help but roll my eyes. This boy always talking about a damn girlfriend. As many as he claim he had. I'm tryina figure out how he can manage to find a new one cause it ain't that many girls in his class
"What's this one name jr?"
"Ion remember her name. I gotta ask her again tomorrow"
"Oh my-" Ari laughed while jr walked off going down the hall to his room and shy shook his head, laughing again as well while I sighed
