"We have to do something about that girl!" said an angry voice, hidden in the darkness.
There was a deafening silence as if someone was still assessing what was being said. It didn't prolong for long, as an older voice sighed before starting.
"It is a dangerous game you are trying to pull, my friend." Said the wiser voice, the flame of the candlelight stirring up in the dying moments.
"A game we need to play, or she would be out of our grasp. She is already making waves and she is but a young child. We need to stop her, control her before it gets out of hand." The other voice became more restless and louder. Yet the darkness never left his face, obscuring any expressions that may betray him, even if the candle continued to burn bright at the low table.
"Let Lady Belladona handle it. She will know the best approach, it is her niece." Replied the other with a pacifying tone.
"She is biased and wouldn't go against her family. Belladona would never fight her brother, not after..." The angry voice retorted, making the flame move dangerously in the darkroom.
"Even better reason to stay put and let her handle it." Intersected the older voice. "The Mountnero are not easy people to target. They are predators, not prey. "
"My friend sure, yet that doesn't change the fact we need to eliminate the threat before it ruins the Temple! And I heard she has no power, it is not like we benefit from her." Now the voice was loud and clear, reverberating through the stony walls.
"Indeed it is true that she has no power, however, it is also true that we need her alive and well. No matter what. That also is imperative!" the response was said slowly as to make a point to his emotional friend. For the first time, the older voice was assertive and demanding, making the flame close to being extinguished.
"Very well... Alive but controlled..." agreed on the voice, resigned and meek.
"I am sure the marriage with the son of the Great Duke of the North will bring her calm and serenity. Let's just wait for her to come into adulthood and then she will be sent to live with them." Serenity came again to the older voice and the flame danced cheerfully with the heavy but steady breaths of both men.
"It would be too late by then, my friend! There must be a way to control her before that... I know of someone who can help us..." exasperation returned to that dump and darkroom through the younger voice. And again the flame was back to chaos.
"Help you, my old friend? As I said you gamble too much... patience may be actually your ally here." With this, the older voice became harder to distinguish, and the flame moved with it.
"In this case is a worthy gamble. For the glory of the Temple." retorted the angry voice.
"May the Goddess guide you to the light of the rightness." No more than whisper was the reply the angry man received, becoming alone in the room with a lively flame.
"Coward."
For moments there was nothing but darkness and angry remarks from the voice. The man was tired of his worthless colleagues... they never did anything and only went with what that wench said or ordered. They would always be nothing more than changeable cattle. But he wouldn't, no, the glory would be his and he wouldn't share it with anyone. But first, he needed to show he could be of importance, that he could of help to that idiotic shit Belladona and to the Temple.
And nothing better to prove it than by doing something she would never be capable of... yes...and the key was that girl.
Footsteps were heard in the dark, different and quieter. They didn't belong to the usual users of this place. However, to him they were familiar.
Oh, it seems help has arrived...
And with a chuckle and a yellowish smile, the voice prepared to meet the one who would help him conquer the Temple. And destroy Lucreatia Mountnero.

Originally this chapter was not in my plan, but then it came to me (things like that happen often and sometimes derail my plans XD) and I decided to add it to give some backstory...
