"okay, what do you guys want for dinner, we're just ordering out" seonghwa said
"that's what you wanna talk about?" yunho genuinely asked, the parents nodded "we aren't gonna talk about what just happened?"
"not now yunho. we will. but not now" hongjoong gave the kid a knowing look, to which he responded with a nod
"can we have mcdonald's?" wooyoung asked. the parents nodded and got everyone's orders
"i'll go get sans order" jongho said before wooyoung was even done talking
"it's okay jjong i-" seonghwa tried to protest, but jongho was already running up the stairs.
jongho got to the olders door, and knocking softly "hyung, can i come in?"
"sure" he heard the boys faint voice from the other side of the door
"mama and papa are getting us mcdonald's, what do you want?" jongho smiled, it was fake, but it was a smile
"what? they can't ask me themselves?" san snarked as he sat up
"oh- well i kinda volunteered to. they didn't even want me to. but i figured you wouldn't wanna talk to them right now" jongho said
"hm, i don't wanna talk to anyone right now" san commented back. ouch.
"just tell me what you want san" jongho rolled his eyes
"my usual. sweet tea this time" san as he picked up a bouncy ball and started bouncing it off the wall
jongho left the room and sighed, he hated seeing everyone so upset. yunho seemed pissed, yeosang always looked worried, mingi had a mixture of sad and angry. and wooyoung was just confused and frustrated. his parents were clearly upset. more angry than sad right now, he thought. but at the end of the day, san is still... san. he's still their brother, and his parents' son. right? he's still san, still my brother jongho had to keep telling himself to prevent any tears from showing.
"what'd he say?" seonghwa said
"his usual, but sweet tea" jongho answered
"maybe the sweetness will stop him from being so bitter" yunho mumbled
"yunho." hongjoong warned
"mama, can i talk to you later? like after dinner." jongho asked
"yeah baby, you know you always can" seonghwa smiled
did san know he could talk to them? or did he always see the outcome of an argument in his mind? what does san even think about?
jongho had so many thoughts roaming around his head, he didn't even notice that yunho, yeosang and seonghwa had left to get the food.
"you alright, sweetie?" hongjoong asked, snapping the youngest out of his thought bubbled
"yeah... just thinking"
hongjoong nodded, somehow understanding what he meant, but jongho wondered if they were truly thinking the same thing.
after a while, yunho walked through the door yelling "FOOD!" throughout the house. jongho guessed everyone else went upstairs to their rooms after he did.
they all walked downstairs, collecting their food and sauces. jongho went to grab his chicken nuggets and coke when san walked down.
"can i eat in my room?" san asked
"i'd prefer you wouldn't..." seonghwa said
"i have some homework to catch up on" san added
"you can do it later, all i ask for is one meal before school and work tomorrow, please" seonghwa begged
san nodded and went to grab his food. as the kids got older, they'd switch where they sit at the table. mingi doesn't sit by hongjoong anymore, hasn't in years. yeosang still sits by seonghwa though. jongho takes his seat next to mingi, talking about random things.
jongho turned his head to look at san, who was talking with wooyoung, but receiving death stares from yunho, who was beside jongho, and across from san.
"stop it" jongho whispered
yunho just looked at him and then looked down at his food.
"i n-need help with m-math" yeosang said as he put a chicken nuggets in his mouth
"wha- i just taught you how to do that" yunho said
"and i s-still d-don't get it" yeosang sassed, shaking his head
"i'll help you yeosang" hongjoong laughed
"can you help me with my english homework?" san asked, no one really expected him to talk to anyone other than wooyoung. let alone ask either of his dads for help with something
"yeah, how much do you have?" hongjoong nodded
"five questions, and then i have to translate a sentence in korean to english" san explained. san was really good in his korean language studies class, so they put him in an eighth grade english studies class, which is where he met johnny and jaehyun. it came to no surprise to the parents that johnny was marks older brother, and jaehyun was his cousin.
"you can help s-san f-first. i have a-a lot m-more t-to do" yeosang said
"okay san, after i help mama clean up i'll be up to help you." hongjoong agreed as he finished his last chicken nugget
"thanks" san said
after everyone was done eating, seonghwa shooed hongjoong away, saying "go help him, i can clean" and then kissing him on the cheek. so hongjoong ran upstairs and saw the boy at his desk with his english book and his homework sheet.
"hey, you ready?" hongjoong asked, san nodded and they started on the homework

downstairs, yeosang was helping seonghwa clean up. it wasn't a lot, mcdonald's never goes to waste in the house so there were no left overs.
"why is s-san acting so d-different?" yeosang asked as he put a mcdonald's bag in the trash
"well... i think there's many things to it, could be influence from his new friends, could be the fact that he has instagram now and he sees things he wants but is too young for. me and papa are trying to work it out with him" seonghwa explained as he cleaned up ketchup packets and ranch
"he m-made mingi cry t-today" the boy confessed "me a-and yunho were listening f-from the s-stairs. an-and mingi came over t-to see where we w-were. and he h-heard"
seonghwa put both his hands on the kitchen table and hung his head low. yeosang heard a deep sigh, he could tell his dad was frustrated
"i'm s-sorry. i t-took him away w-when i s-saw san"
"no, it's okay sweetie. just... you know your lesson for if it happens again" seonghwa put his hand on the boys shoulder then lifted it to his head and rubbed his softly "go ahead and try to start on that homework. you guys have to go to bed early"
yeosang nodded before going on his tiptoes to kiss seonghwa's cheek and walked out of the kitchen
seonghwa finished cleaning up then walked into the living room a plopped on the couch. he turned on the tv, and scrolled through twitter. he heard footsteps coming from the stairs, whe he looked over he saw jongho.
"can we talk now?"
