The closer we got to the hospital the more my nerves were raging in my stomach. I took a deep breath and looked around me as I was about to step in the staff entrance, I looked around and thank God nobody was there, I looked at myself before exiting the room and going in the halls of the hospital.
I straightened myself and walked out, I walked towards the nurses office, and I saw one nurse there,
"Hi, Jean Morris, I am here for the week I think you have been notified of my arrival." I said getting in character,
"Hi Jean, I am Mel I am so happy you are here we are overwhelmed with work and patients, I hope you had a nice trip here, I guess it's pretty similar to Seattle right?" she said a smile on her face, and I just nodded,
"Oh good I saw you brought some comfortable sneakers, girl I really hope you like to run because here it's run run run." she said and I chuckled lightly nodding my head at her,
"Here is your chart, with the patient's names and what they are here for, you have a special case, one man was found completely beaten up, so we haven't got to find out who he is yet, he's still unconscious." she said handing me the clipboard and making our way towards the exit of the room just then another nurse came in sprinting,
"He is awake." she said out of breath,
"Well that's for you." Mel said looking at me smiling,
"Sure, care to show me the way?" I asked the nurse that had rushed in, she gladly nodded and presented herself, what a coincidence that just as I arrived he woke up.
"I am Erin by the way." she said handing out her hand for me to shake, which I gladly did and smiled as if I wasn't nervous at all about what was going to happen next. Erin stopped in front of a door and told me it was there and she left to her own patients, I was kind of glad that she wouldn't be seeing me be a totally unprofessional nurse, even thought I really wasn't a real nurse anyway, I took a deep breath and knocked on the door not waiting for an answer I got in. I did what I saw in most shows, I entered watching my clipboard and searching through the pages,
"Good morning Sir, how are you feeling?" I asked him finally getting myself to look at him,
"Good morning Ma'am." he said trying to straighten himself on the bed but failing due to what I assume was a loooot of pain.
"I see we haven't got many informations about you, care to give me some." I said giving him my best fake smile and he nodded, wincing in pain.
"First and Last name." I asked, he looked at me intently as I take a pen out of my white coat pocket, I gave him an impatient look, he sighed and opened his mouth,
"Jonathan Leery." my heart dropped, it was probably just a coincidence, I gulped and he saw me tense up, I had to act cool and not be so nervous, so I nonchalantly wrote his name in the chart and proceeded.
"Any family, relatives or friends that we could contact to let them know you are here?" I asked him trying to stay calm and not think about my heart beating crazy fast in my chest.
"No, my only family died some weeks ago, I am all alone." he said not taking his eyes off me, my gut was telling me to run out the door, that it would end badly but I couldn't move I was like stuck.
"My condolences, do you need us to call the police?" I asked him, now I was staring at him,
"No why?" he asked bluntly, he wasn't a prisoner or else he would've said yes,
"Mister Leery, the state you were found in is really not usual, you had marks all over your body, do you know who did that to you? Do you have a complain to make?" I asked him, he was getting nervous,
"No!" he said through gritted teeth, and I kept my eyes locked in his,
"Are you sure? I mean you suffered some really bad things, broken ribs, muscle out of place, some fractured bones, unless you are a stunt man for a movie, you have been badly treated, I will ask again, do you need the hospital to call the police for you?" I said emphasising every word.
"NO!" he said now yelling and I had a smirk plastered on my face,
"Well then, we will need to make more exams and probably a surgery to repair everything that is broken inside you." I said, he growled a bit and I smiled at him,
"Have a nice day Mister Leery, we will see each other later." I tell him and as I thought I was having the upper hand in this fight he said something that made my blood go cold,
"I bet we are Doctor Morris, or should I say Jones?" with that I left and I heard everyone in my earpiece telling me to leave the hospital and go to the car, I saw Nat coming towards me in the corridor and Peter on the other side, but I saw four men coming towards the room I had just left and they looked at me suspiciously, I smiled at them and calmly made my way to the back of the hospital and mentioned for Peter and Nat to come with me.
Nick's POV
"Get her the hell out of it!" I yelled at the guys through my earpiece, but they all seemed frozen, they weren't reacting to anything I was saying,
"Director, we need more informations." I heard Steve say, and I clenched my fists,
"Captain if you don't get her out of here now I will personally put you back in iced water." I said loosing my mind,
"Director what is happening?" Tony asked through the earpiece, he was in a van not far away from the hospital, I touched my earpiece and connected to the same line as everyone and said,
"It's the brother of her stepfather, he used to work for HYDRA, they knew it was her all along, they were one step ahead of us. Get her out of there now!" I said again through the earpiece and I heard,
"Oh shit!" from Tony,
"You said it." from Steve.
Mia's POV
Nat was behind a big trash thingy and Peter was hanging from a web somewhere in a corner, they were there in case something happened.
I was trying to act casual as if I was just on my phone taking a break with the other doctors and nurses that were here in the back of the hospital, the door opened and revealed the guys I passed by a little earlier, and as if on cue the whole group of doctors and nurses got back inside and left as if nothing was about to happen.
"After years of trying to hunt you down, we just had to turn on the TV and see the miracle that happened, where two girls miraculously survived a gas leak and the explosion of their house." said one of the men, looking awfully like a Men in Black guy, black suit and shades on.
"Now boys, there are four of you and only one of me that doesn't seem fair now does it?" I asked a small grin on my face, trying to wake my confidence up, the men slowly brought their hands towards where they had their guns, and I saw Nat coming out of her hiding spot and I shook my head no, to let her know I didn't need her help.
"Not fair for who? You?" a guy with a devilish smile on said and I took my blouse off, I had only a tight black long sleeve sweater and a black jeans with my white Air Force One.
"No, not fair for you." I said blankly and with that I unleashed my powers, my hands sparkling, I kicked one of the guys in the chest making him fly and crash through the nearest wall, while I petrified one other guy with my powers, I started to feel pain where I had the wound of the bullet so I needed to end this the easiest and fastest way, I closed my eyes and released a wave of powers and they all flew to the nearest walls, they were all knocked out unconscious. I stood up straight and looked around me quiet proud, but holding my side a bit, thankfully I wasn't bleeding I was just in a lot of pain.
"That was..." started Nat as she came out of her hiding spot and Peter came behind her, and finished her sentence.
"Awesome, you are my new favorite Avenger." he said laughing and I laughed too, wincing a bit in pain, and Nat had a small smile. Then at the entry of the alley Steve and Tony came running and stopped when they saw us and I saw that Steve had his shield with him.
"Well it looks like you didn't need help after all." said Steve a small smile on his lips,
"You had to watch this she was amazing." said Peter, nudging me on my shoulder and I whimpered a bit,
"Hey you are okay?" asked Tony coming towards me, I lift up my shirt a bit to watch if my wound was all okay, but it was beginning to get swollen,
"I think I might need painkillers or something, but totally worth it." I tell them laughing,
"Need help? I could carry you if you want." Steve said and I shook my head, I could see all three guys giving death glares to each other,
"Okay too much testosterone here, I am out, Nat you coming?" I asked looking at her as she was laughing at the guys.
As we arrived back at the compound, I had someone waiting for me to see my wound and see if I hadn't opened it and if everything was fine, and as planed everything was, the guy just put a big bandage on my wound and gave me a pain killer which I took and then headed straight to the conference room.
"How are you? You did an amazing job out there." Uncle Nick said putting his hand on my shoulder, everyone was around sitting at the table so I took a sit too,
"We now know his identity and also for who he works and we know how much he wants Mia, now he probably went into hiding and will only come out when he will have another plan and overall when he will get better, the guy needs medical attention until he's healthy again we have time." he says looking at all of us,
"What do we do now then?" asked Wanda, curiosity in her voice,
"Well, Miss Maximoff we wait for them to make a move. There is no need to chase him knowing full well he will be coming back sooner or later." he said and I nodded at his words, everyone looked at him and nodded as well,
"You are all dismissed do whatever you do on your free time." he said and we all got up and then when I was about to leave he cleared his throat and I turned around.
"Yes?" I asked waiting for him to speak,
"I heard about what happened with Stark, how are you?" he said, I could see this conversation was making him uncomfortable and I just said,
"Everything is fine now, he apologised and I am not one to stay mad for very long, I didn't want to ruin the good vibe there is in the team either." I tell him to which he nodded and a small corner of his lips turned up, which I take as a smile.
"I wanted to know too, if I could keep little Aly tonight, I am normally not a baby person besides you when you were born, but Thor is right, she has the power to make any cold heart melt. I bought some little toys and everything, Maria and Coulson will be there too." he said embarrassed and I laughed,
"Sure no problem, uncle Nick." I said kissing his cheek before leaving the room, after exiting I turned and told him,
"Is 7 p.m. okay?" I asked smiling,
"It's perfect." he said and with that I left the room, he really is nice under all this act he keeps up.
