I was ready for the best part of the movie. The big event was about to happen making me giddy with excitement when the TV suddenly shut off directing my attention to the bird in the room.
"If you don't turn that back on in the next 5 seconds you are going to have hell to pay"
"We got an assignment" Hawks motioned to a letter
"Im kinda in the middle of something" I scoff
"Other than getting snack crumbs on my couch?"
I grumble getting up to look at the box. We started at it for a few seconds, "Well. Open it bird brain"
He tore it open skimming through it before sighing, "This is dumb"
I grab it from him reading for myself. It was a list of a bonding exercise a day. There were also blank fill ins to add more to our list, "Lets just get this over with" I roll my eyes, "Name 5 things you like to do"
"Work, eat chicken, eat fried chicken, eat chicken nuggets, and relax"
"Chicken can't be 3 of your things"
"What? I'm hungry" he shrugged, "So, what are your 5 favorite things" he rubbed his chin in thought before smirking, "about me?"
"How easy you are to read, how fast i can crash your inflated as fuck ego-"
"Hey! That's not what I meant"
"Then be specific"
"Fine, what 5 things do you like about...my body?" He gave me his best smolder
"I love how punchable your face is right now"
"Well I love how easily I can call you a bitch"
"At least I don't have an ego the size of japan"
"No instead you have the time management skills of a magpie"
"Yeah, I think we're done here" I toss the paper at him heading into the bedroom shutting the door
"Hey! Thats my room!"
"Sleep on the couch! If you're so damn hungry there is snack crumbs for you to peck at!"
Hawks POV
It had already gotten late and I was stuck camping out on my own couch. I huff looking at the damn paper looking through it again. We were supposed to discuss activities we wanted to do together over this week. Day 1 was already done and over.
I grabbed a pen looking over the blanks. We can just do what I want if she won't cooperate. This whole thing is her fault anyway. I wouldn't mind doing some baking. We could watch a movie. I really like going out on leisurely flights. I miss that. You know what? I deserve a massage too. I scribble a few things down into the schedule feeling satisfied with myself before laying down to try to get some form of sleep.
Waking up i feel a pillow smack my face, "Move. I want to finish my movie"
"I was sleeping thanks"
"And now you're in the way, also you called me a Magpie last night. They are highly intelligent birds thank you. You suck at insults"
"Its the first thing I thought of" I mutter my defense getting up. My wings felt cramped and my back was sore. I'm so going to make her pay for this one way or another.
She had no problems shoving me over to finish her film. Her eyes caught on the paper from last night, "Whats this?"
"We were supposed to fill in shit so I did"
"Oh hell no, I am not going flying with you"
"What, scared I'll drop you?"
"Well now I am" she huffed
I rolled my eyes
"Let's just get our shit done for today. We have... breathing exercise and baking"
I snatch the paper looking at the breathing exercise, "Seems easy enough"
I turn to the reference page looking at the instructions. We needed to touch foreheads and hold faces while breathing in sync.
"I don't want you to touch me" she huffed looking at the paper over my shoulder
"Let's just get this over with"
"Go brush your teeth first. I don't want rancid morning breath in my face"
I scoff but go do as told. Returning i sit on the couch turned towards her. She faced me and sighed.
"We just need 7 breathes. We can continue if we want but that's the minimum"
"Yeah yeah, just 7" she rolled her eyes.
She grabbed my face gently dragging me forward to rest her forehead against mine.
This felt awkward. So awkward. My face started to burn feeling her so close. The first 2 slow breathes were awkward but I slowly started to relax. Her hands were warm cupping my jawline I didn't know what to do with my hands since she didn't want me to touch her so I held them in my lap. I nervously pick at my fingers.
The 6th breath her fingers gently scratched in a little circle. I looked up trying to catch her eyes but they were closed. I flexed my hands trying to keep calm. It was a comfortable feeling. I felt butterflies in my stomach at how gentle it was getting Shivers down my spine.
I tried hard not to twitch. If she is doing it subconsciously if I draw attention to it she'll stop. I tense my wings to keep them from fluttering. Am I really this touch starved? God I have issues. The 9th breath she suddenly pulled away.
"Sorry, I lost count cause I zoned out. How many was that?"
"7, um how many times are we supposed to do that? Like 3?"
She grabbed the paper looking at it making my lips press into a line knowing that wasn't going to work now.
"Just once. What do you want to bake?"
"Cookies?" I shrug
"Do you have the ingredients for that?"
"Eh...no"
"So you wrote something we can't even do" she deadpaned at me
"Lets go shopping then. Pick up some snacks" I shrug
She rolled her eyes but agreed begrudgingly.
Readers POV
I have spent all day it seemed shopping with him. What was originally supposed to be a trip to the store turned into a window shopping trip and getting lunch together. I stare at him as he looks between the 2 brands of chicken nuggets. It shouldn't be such a hard decision. He finally picked a bag putting it in the cart.
"We done?"
"Almost" he lead the way through the store going to the snack aisle. He stopped to grab (Favorite snack) and smiled, "These are your favorite right? Let's pick some up" I tossed them in the cart.
I look to the other side of the aisle to keep from reacting. He remembered my favorite snack? My chest felt weird at the thought of that. God, he's being too fucking perfect again. I scowl, how much of this is an act?
He pulled a few other last items before we made it to check out. The checkout last suddenly gasped when looking up.
"Oh My God its Hawks!"
"One and only" Hawks chuckled
"Im like, your biggest fan!"
"Do you have something for me to autograph? I'd be happy to do it"
"Please" she handed him her lanyard
"And your name?"
"Yori"
"Great, to my lovely fan, Yori, signed Hawks" he handed it back with a smile.
I felt something bubble up in me. I didn't like this. I casually wrap around Hawks arm, "If we want time to make those cookies we gotta get home"
He turned to me looking at my arms around his one nodded slowly, "Yeah, let's get checked out then"
The car ride was quiet. We got some take out before heading back to his place. We brought in the groceries before eating. I finally started putting away the groceries while Hawks got ingredients
"So uh... what happened back there?" Hawks had a little smirk
"What do you mean?"
"You wrapping yourself around me, were you jealous?" His smirk only widened.
"No, its called acting"
"We've been acting for months and not once have you actively seemed to touch me like that before"
"And for good reason. I knew you'd act like this the minute I did" I huff.
"Aw come on, admit you were jealous of the counter girl"
"What could I have possibly been jealous of. I just wanted to get back home"
"Home? So this is home now?"
"Damnit Hawks you know what I mean"
"Fine fine, I'll drop it"
Baking together wasn't all bad. Hawks poured ingredients while I mixed.
"Hawks not so fast"
"That's what she said"
"Im not kidding my arm hurts from trying to fold in this flower"
"More accustomed to the up and down motion?"
"The hell are you implying?" I scowl at him.
"Nothing" he shrugged off
There he goes back to pissing me off. I had half a mind not to pull his wing again in spite. It might get him to shut up for a while.
We finally got the cookies on the sheet and in the oven. Hawks stole one of the beaters while I took the other one. I sat back on the couch while we waited for the oven to beep.
I wanted to talk about sleeping arrangements but when I turned to Hawks I couldn't help but stare.
He licked the beater casually. I watched his tongue dart out to wrap around one of the sides to get all the batter off. I turned away trying to clear my thoughts. I gathered myself only to turn back watching him swirl his tongue a few times around the top bolt that held the metal together. He looked satisfied standing and heading into the kitchen to throw his beater in the sink.
I finished off mine joining him in the kitchen as the oven beeped. With cookies done I sat up on the counter.
"So Hawks. Why did you want to bake cookies?"
"Never did it before. I thought it would be fun" he shrugged.
"Seriously? How?"
"Always busy I guess. Growing up I didn't really get the chance either" his eyes fell on the floor after mentioning his childhood.
I felt bad suddenly for even asking. I should be happy. I found a flaw but...I just felt sad. I didn't want to dig.
"I think I'm ready for bed. How about you?"
"Yeah. Its getting late" he put away the cookies and stretched, "You aren't going to make me sleep on the couch again...are you?"
"Only if you piss me off"
"Noted" he smiled following me into the room.
Morning came with the feeling of little puffs of air fanning the my face. I peeked open an eye to see Hawks face inches from mine. He was still passed out with messy hair and a peaceful look. I didn't put the pillow barrier up last night. If it was laziness or not I don't know. I really can't care.
I slowly get out of bed careful not to disturb Hawks. His wings were spread all the way out behind him. Hanging off the edge. I almost felt bad for making him sleep on the couch last night. With big wings it must be hard to sleep.
I grab some day clothes out of my bag and get changed in the bathroom. I peek in the room to see Hawks had shifted to the center of the bed his wings taking up the whole rest of it.
I closed the door and headed to the living room. I look at the list for the next thing. Soul gazing? It's a fancy way of saying staring at eachother.
Hawks POV
I stretch out waking up. Wait. Wings. I sit up waiting to hear the complaining of my wings taking her space but realise she is gone. I sigh in relief and relax yawning. Where is she? I expected to wake up next to her. Have my prayers been answered and I no longer have to deal with her? I get up and search for her seeing the slippers on her bedside.
Living with her has been weird. It's only been 2 days but although small there has been change. We aren't at eachothers throats anymore. Its also nice feeling like I'm on her priority list, although ordered to it is nice.
I had into the main room and hear some shuffling in the kitchen followed by light humming. She was in the kitchen humming plating up some food. I sit and watch for a moment. She had some earbuds in while she cooked.
She turned suddenly seeing me and jumped, "How long have you been standing there?"
"Not long" I shrug
"Creeper" she scoffs handing me a plate
"For me?"
"No, for the trash can. I thought it was hungry"
I roll my eyes, "Thank you" I head to the couch to eat.
She joined me with her own plate, "Why don't you have a dining table?"
"I live alone and really don't see a point. If I do eat at home it's either here or usually in my office while I'm working. I had one when I first moved in but it just became a catch all"
"What about for company?"
"Don't usually have people over" I start eating. I really don't want to continue this conversation.
Readers POV
I finished up and Hawks took our plates to the sink.
"Ready for today's activity?"
"Sure what is it?"
"Soul gazing. 5 minutes of basically starting eachother in the eye without talking"
"Cool" he sat back next to me, "Lets start then"
I adjusted to face him and set an alarm on my phone, "Ok, go"
As the timer started I looked up into Hawks eyes. I took note of the color first. The color is like amber and honey with flecks of gold that caught the light. What I found more interesting is his face markings. The triangles around his eyes looked so casual but interesting. Next was his long eyelashes. They were graceful and pretty.
"Are you wearing eyeliner?" I squint seeing the drawn black line that helps connect his triangles giving him a better wing.
"Shut up, we are supposed to be quiet remember?"
I roll my eyes and go back to staring into his. I felt awkward and bored. I looked around more of his face. I could see the lightest freckles. They were barely seen unless you payed attention. His skin looks so smooth. Why did he have to always be so damn perfect. I have to work for skin like that.
The alarm finally went off and turned away, "Cool, we're done"
"Whats the plan today"
I check my phone curiously but smile seeing today I have plans with friends, "I have plans"
"What plans"
"Im going out with friends to the club. We are having lunch in about an hour and a half"
"You sure that's a good idea? If you're seen hanging at a club won't people think badly of our act?"
"I have gone before. I just don't get to openly flirt"
"Openly?" He raised a brow
"If he's cute he's cute" I shrug
"Take me with tonight?"
"Ew no. It's my one freetime away from you"
"Come on, you won't even notice me"
"Yeah, a member of the top 10. You get so much paparazzi the club will be swarmed"
"Come on, I don't get that swarmed"
"We are going to a small place tonight. If you want you can join Saturday when we go downtown"
"Fine, leave me all alone" he sighed sitting back with a pout
"Im not gonna cancel cause some bird brain can't make his own plans"
"Why not? You Canceled on me what, 3 times?"
"Don't even. I had good reason. I am a hero just like you so I'm busy"
"Even so! You are so self engrossed what do I rank on your list of priorities?"
"What does it matter?! You want the truth you were towards the very bottom. We are an act. I just need to keep the act and we're good"
"Yeah until that shit creates a PR nightmare"
"Yeah, that would be so bad to have a little smudge on your perfect fucking image"
I watched his wings rise and spread more. I recognized this. I've pissed him off so he is trying to look more threatening. I've only done this twice before and it didn't go well. He is defensive and not putting up with it. I storm off to go get ready to go out figuring I could just leave early. I shoot my friend a text to come get me.
As I got my makeup done he stood in the doorway to the bathroom leaning on the doorframe with the same pissy expression. I rolled my eyes finishing up just when we heard a knock at the door.
"Suck it up for a minute" I whisper yell to the bird who followed me back to the main room.
I open the door for my friend, "You ready?" She chimed before looking past me, "Ah, that's why you're not at your place. I was wondering. Am I interupting anything?" She smirked
"Im spending the week with him. We both took some time off to see eachother" I smile and glance at Hawks, "Im headed out then"
"No kiss?" Hawks spoke up before I could leave.
He smirked keeping his hands in his pockets. I turned to him fully letting my eye twitch in annoyance. He looked amused. He knew just how to piss me off.
I give him a peck on the cheek.
He had a shit eating grin shaking his head, "You missed"
"Dont even" I playfully roll my eyes while turning back to my friend heading out.
Im gonna kill that bird brain.
