The woman before me throws her spear at Steve, he moves slightly to the side and catches it in his hand. I look back at the woman and she is kicked by Sam, he flew in quickly from her left side. She gets knocked so far that she crashes through a store window. Sam sends a few small missiles at the man who still stood. He blocked them but since he was done with that, Steve and Nat charged on either side of him. Steve threw the woman staff, Nat quickly caught it and took the man out by his legs. He turned to face her and she stabbed the staff directly through his stomach. She kicked him to the ground and he stayed there. The woman came up behind Nat but Steve quickly blocked the woman from hitting Nat. Sam flys in and kicked the woman to the ground once again. She tumbles, crouching beside her teammate.
"Get up," the woman whispers to her fallen teammate
"I can't" the man replies
"We don't want to kill you, but we will," Nat states
The woman glares at her with a deadly stare.
"You'll never get the chance again," she states
A beam of light shoots down from the sky, sending both the man and the woman up to a large ship. The staff that Steve held in hand quickly beamed up after them. The ship takes off. The three approach us as I kneel to make sure Vision is alright. Sam kneels beside me
"Can you stand?" Sam asks Vision
Without getting a reply, Sam helps Vision up and wraps his arm around his shoulders to support him. Steve's eyes meet with mine and I shoot him a light smile. He had grown a beard. He wore it well, it made him look much tougher in the face than he did before. Nat smiled at me and I smiled back. Her hair was now short and blonde, it looked good on her. It seemed like everyone changed quite a bit over the years.
"Thank you, Captian," Vision states
I never told Vision about those moments I shared with Steve back at the Facility. It was something that I just wanted to keep to myself, especially since I didn't think I would see him again.
"Let's get you guys on the jet," Steve nods
He was more stern than I remember. We head to the jet and all take our seats. Nat stands, she looks at me and shakes her head with a smile.
"Now I thought we had a deal. You were gonna check-in and keep in touch," she states
I look at her sympathetically
"I'm sorry, I didn't know how you felt with me since I left," I state
"How long have you two been here?" Steve asks, not making eye contact
"About two years," Vision replies
Steve doesn't reply. Sam breaks the silence soon after.
"Where to, Cap?" Sam asks from the front of the jet
"Home," he states in a stern tone
Steve seemed different. I hadn't seen him since the big fight with Tony when I pushed him and Bucky out of the way of the tower. That was the last I had seen of him for a whole two years. SO many things between us were left without explanation. Over time I just began to let it go. The ride home was silent. I was nervous to go back. I left so suddenly, and while I did miss everyone, I didn't know if they would be upset with me or not. When we exit the jet, all these memories began to wash over me. I missed this place. We entered only to see Rhodes on a call with Secretary Ross. They were arguing about something but we came in too late to hear.
"Mr. Secretary," Steve states
I then remembered half of us were still considered criminals for breaking the Accords. Steve was even worse since he broke his whole team out of prison. If it wasn't for Tony, I would've been in that prison with them.
"You got some nerve. I'll give you that," Secretary Ross states
"You could use some of that right now," Nat replies
"The worlds on fire. And you think all is forgiven?" the Secretary states
"I'm not looking for forgiveness. And I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender. So we're here to fight. And if you wanna stand in our way, we'll fight you too." Steve states in a stern tone
"Arrest them," Secretary Ross says to Rhodes
"All over it," he replies
Rhodes moves his arm slightly and ends the call.
"That's a court-martial" Rhodes states while looking at us
A smile creeps upon his face soon after.
"It's great to see you guys," he smiles
Nat gives him a hug just after Steve shakes his hand. I quickly rush in and give him a tight hug. He looks down at me and smiles.
"You left and didn't even call," he says with a chuckle
"I'm sorry," I say while hugging him again, I pull away seconds after
"Wow. You guys, really look like crap. Must've been a rough couple of years," Rhodes chuckles
"Yeah, well the hotels weren't exactly five stars," Sam states
I can't even imagine what these guys had gone through after Steve and Bucky broke them out. It must've been hell. I immediately felt bad.
"Well I think you guys look great," a voice states from around the corner
Banner comes around with a big cheesy smile. Nat freezes. The way they left things after Sokovia wasn't exactly ideal, but god that feels like forever ago. He walks in a shy manner and chuckles.
"Yeah, I'm back," he says in a shy tone
A wave of joy takes over my body and I rush in to give him a hug.
"I missed you so much," I say into his shoulder
"I missed you too," he smiles
We break our hug and I walk back to where I stood.
"Hi, Bruce," Nat states
"Nat," he states in reply, a wave of guilt washes over his face.
"This is awkward," Sam mutters
We all join together in the common room. Rhodes and Banner update us on what's happening and I tell them about how Vision and I were attacked in Scotland.
"So, we have to assume they're coming back right?" Rhodes asks
"And they can clearly find us," I state
"We need all hands on deck. Where's Wanda, or Clint?" Banner asks
"After the whole Accords situation, Clint, Scott and Wanda took a deal. It was too tough on Clint and Scotts families. Wanda is staying with Clint. They're on house arrest" Nat replies
"Who's Scott?" Banner asks
"Ant-Man," Steve replies
"There's an Ant-Man and a Spider-Man?" Banner asks in confusion
Rhodes just nods, he thinks is ridiculous.
"Okay, look. Thanos has the biggest army in the universe and he is not gonna stop until he gets... Vision's stone," Banner continues
I didn't know much about Thanos, I knew that he was a big threat and that he was after the six infinity stones. He wanted to kill of half of the universe's population. He wanted mass genocide.
"Then we have to protect it," Nat states
"No, we have to destroy it. I've been giving it a good deal of thought to this entity in my head. About its nature. But also its composition. I think if it were exposed to a sufficiently powerful energy source... something very similar to its own signature perhaps. Its molecular integrity could fail," Vision states
I knew what he was about to say but I didn't want to even think about it. Wanda had gained her power's from the stone that gives Vision life. If her power was exposed to that stone, It could destroy it, taking Vision with it.
"It would take you with it, Vis. We're not having this conversation," I reply
"Eliminating the stone is the only way to be certain that Thanos can't get it," Vision replies, walking towards me
"That is too high of a price," I say, my hand caressing his cheek
Vision turns and looks at the rest of the group.
"Thanos threatens half the universe. One life cannot stand in the way of defeating him," Vision states
"But it should. We don't trade lives, Vision," Steve says sternly
"Captian, 70 years ago, you laid down your life, to save how many millions of people? Tell me, Why is this any different?" Vision asks
"Because you might have a choice. Your mind is made up of a complex construct of overlays. Jarvis, Ulton, Me, Tony, even your girlfriend over there. Plus the stone. All of them mixed together, all of them learning from one another." Banner cuts in
"So you're saying, Vision isn't just the stone?" I reply
"I'm saying that if we take out the stone, there's still a whole lot of Vision left. Perhaps the best parts," Banner replies
"Can we do that?" Nat asks
"Not me, not here. Banner states
"Well, you better find someone and somewhere fast," Rhodes replies
"I know somewhere," Steve adds
"Where?" I ask
"We go to Wakanda. Bucky is there as well. They have some of the highest technology in the world. If we could do it anywhere, it would be there," Steve replies
"Alright, then let's not waste any more time," Nat replies
Everyone heads towards the weapons room to gear up. I stand before my locker where all my stuff was. It was slightly dusty and clearly untouched. I grab my suit and quickly put it on while no one was in the area. I began to throw my clothes back on overtop. I wasn't going to fight, but if I needed to, I would. As I was equipping myself with knives and other small combat weapons, I felt a presence creep up behind me. I turn around and my eyes meet with Steve's.
"Nice to see you," I say
He lets out a slight chuckle. It's been a while since I heard that laugh.
"I missed you," he replies
"I missed you too, Steve," I smile back
"What happened to you after everything? The last time I saw you, you saved me from a falling building," Steve states
"Well, I was rushed to the hospital, stayed there for a few days, got moved back here where Helen helped me. Went through some physical therapy to gain full leg functions again. Then soon after I moved out to Scotland," I reply
"I never got to thank you for the whole building thing," Steve replies
"Don't mention it, It'd do it again in a heartbeat, you know that," I reply, placing a knife in my belt.
"So, Are you and Vision... together now?" he asks me, avoiding eye contact.
"Yeah, we are," I smile
"I'm happy for you, truly," he says while smiling at me sympathetically
"Thank you, Steve," I say while pulling him in for a hug.
He hugs back tightly. I could tell he needed this hug just as much as I did.
"Leaving in 2!" Nat yells
Steve and I break the embrace and head for the jet. I take a seat next to Vision, holding his hand in mine. Vision smiles at me and places a kiss on my forehead. Steve watched from across the jet where he sat next to Sam. I could tell he was upset about my relationship with Vision, it was quite obvious, I did feel bad but I didn't regret my status with Vision at all. The ride to Wakanda was quick and pretty quiet. I guess everyone was preparing for war.
