Chapter 5: Diagon Alley

By KittyQuinn3

The next week, we all took one of Tony's private jets to London so we could all get our school supplies. Luckily, after Tony found out that electronics wouldn't work at Hogwarts and him having a slight melt down, Professor Dumbledore preformed some kind of spell that would allow us to use laptops and our phones. He made a special exception for us because of what our parents did and we never knew when the next emergency would be. Danny didn't point out that his parents weren't part of the Avengers, he was just happy that he would still be able to listen to his music while at school.

The trip to London actually came at the right time, Tony had to go there anyway for a Stark Industries press conference about his latest arc reactor. Unfortunately, that also meant that the day that we were meant to go to a place called Diagon Alley, Tony was sound asleep because he was up all night at the arc reactor launch party. So, Pepper told us to head off without him and Cassy that morning and that she would send them along as soon as they woke up.

Following the instructions that Professor Dumbledore gave us, Danny, me and our parents made our way to a bar, or should I say pub, called the Leaky Cauldron that was the entrance to Diagon Alley. We walked through the pub to the back of it to where a brick wall stood in front of us.

"Ok, so what do we do from here?" Uncle David asked, poking at the wall like he expected that it was some sort of illusion that we could walk straight through.

"Hang on, I've got the instructions on my phone," Mum said as started to search her handbag for her phone, pulling out everything from sunglasses, tissues, a lipstick and her teachers ID and everything in between, which she shoved in to dads' hands, but not her phone.

"Excuse me, but do you need some help to get in to Diagon Alley," a voice asked from behind us, just as dad was about to drop everything that he was holding.

I turned around to see a family standing behind us. The father looked like he was around Tony's age and had greying hair and a kind smile. His wife looked a few years younger than him, she was a beautiful looking woman with blonde hair. Their son looked around our age and in my opinion was kinda cute.

"Yes, we do. Thank y'all so much. We're kind of a little lost," Aunty Tammy said, happy that we weren't going to be stuck there all day.

The man smiled at us and pulled out what I assumed was a magic wand. After tapping the wall in a specific order, it started to move in front of us to reveal an alleyway like I had never seen before. The street was lined with stores of all kinds, advertising everything from brooms to cauldrons and everything in between.

This is amazing! Danny said as we trailed behind everyone, trying to take everything in.

I know! I can't wait to look around!

I heard Dad ask the family if they knew where the bank was so we could exchange our money and start getting everything that we needed. The man kindly offered to show us to the bank and we all followed him to large white building that looked like it was built on an angle. The word Gringotts Bank were engraved on the stone above the entrance to the bank and on a sign next to the door was the warning;

Enter, stranger, but take heated
Of what awaits the sin of greed,
For those who take, but do not earn,
Must pay most dearly in their turn,
So if you see beneath our floors,
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding more than treasure there.

Well, that sounds welcoming, Danny said, making me giggle.

Inside the bank was just as amazing as the outside. The floor was made of marble and there were old fashioned desks lining the room. Behind the desks were the strangest looking creatures I had even seen, which was saying something because I had been to Asgard quite a few times over the years and had never seen anything like them before.

"There goblins, if you were wondering," the boy told us, noticing Danny and my shocked looks.

"Thanks, we were," Danny started to say.

"Wondering what they were," I finished.

The boy looked at us strangely as we finished each other's sentences. We always forgot that people weren't used to us talking the way we did.

"Are you two twins?" He asked, looking between the two of us, making us laugh.

"No, were not. We're cousins," I tell him.

"Yeah, people always think we're twins though," Danny said laughing.

"I can see why; you guys look alike too. I'm Cedric Diggory by the way."

"I'm Elsa Rogers and this idiot is Danny Odinson," I say pointing at Danny who seemed to be having a staring contest with one of the goblins.

"Hey! I'm not an idiot!" he protested, looking away from the goblin.

"Says the idiot who was having a staring contest with a goblin after reading the warning outside the bank," I said poking him and making Cedric laugh.

"Why don't you three go have a look around Diagon Alley. It's going to be a bit of a wait here at the bank," Cedric's mum said, as Dad and Uncle David followed Cedric's dad up to one of the counters.

"Can we Mum?" I asked, looking up at her.

"Of course, just be back here in 30 minutes," she told us.

"Thanks Mum," I called out over my shoulder, already walking out of the bank with Danny and Cedric.

"And don't forget," she started to say jokingly, like she did when I was younger and had to remind me not to use my ice powers in front of people.

"Yeah, I know mum!"

The three of us walked down the street which wasn't that crowded because it was still early in the morning. I looked around the stores around me, not wanting to miss a thing. The signs in the stores moved, constantly changing what they were advertising and people were dressed in robes and cloaks in every colour imaginable.

"So, are you two starting at Hogwarts this year?" Cedric asked, pulling my attention away from a store that sold potion supplies.

"Yep, what about you?" I asked him.

"It's going to start my first year as well. What house do you think you guys will be in?"

"House, what's a house?" Danny asked, confused about what Cedric was asking.

"Sorry, I forgot you guys grew up in a muggle family. There are four houses and each student is sorted in to one when they start Hogwarts."

"What are the houses?" I asked, wanting to know everything I could about Hogwarts.

"There are four houses. Hufflepuff, where students who are kind and loyal usually get sorted in to. Gryffindor, which usually gets the brave students. Ravenclaw, where pretty much everyone is really smart. And finally, Slytherin, where technically they are meant to be cunning but honestly, they are mostly a bunch of stuck-up pure bloods who look down on everyone."

"What are pure bloods," I asked, guessing it was something bad from the way that Cedric said it.

"Pure bloods are families where there is no muggle blood mixed in to them. Most pure bloods don't really care about it, like the Weasley family who live close to me. They are the kindest family that you could ever meet. But some pure blood families think they are better than everyone else because they don't have any mixed blood. Those are the families that usually end up in Slytherin."

"That is so wrong! I can't believe people think they are better than others just because they come from a so-called pure blood line!" I said, thinking that this was the exact thing that Dad fought against during the war.

"Oh no, now you've done it! You have basically said there are magical Nazis and now were not going to hear the end of it," Danny joked.

"Shut up, Danny! Dad fought in wars to stop this type of things and it's wrong that it's still around, whether it be in the magical world or not," I huffed, sounding more and more like my Dad with each word.

"Is you Dad in the muggle army?" Cedric asked.

"Yeah, I guess you could say that. But he kinda took a step back when I was born," I said, not wanting to explain the whole frozen in ice for over 50 years thing.

"No, I totally get it. I grew up hearing stories about my grandfather who was in the muggle army and fought in World War 2," Cedric told us, making me shoot a glare at Danny telling him not to say anything.

"Our great grandfather, we call him Pa, fought in World War 2 as well. But anyway, what house do you think you will be in?" I asked, wanting to get off the topic before Danny slipped and said something because I was enjoying that for the first time someone didn't know who my dad was.

"Probably Hufflepuff, my whole family has been in Hufflepuff. Now that you know about the houses, what one do you think you guys will be in?"

"I like the sound of Hufflepuff, you know with the whole kind and loyal thing," I said.

"Please, there's a good chance that you will end up being in Gryffindor with the whole brave thing. I mean that basically sums you and your dad perfectly. But I think I'll probably be in Hufflepuff. And Cassy, well if it wasn't for that whole pure blood thing, she would totally end up in Slytherin."

"Who's Cassy?" Cedric asked, confused about who Danny was talking about.

"Cassy is a friend of ours who is also starting at Hogwarts," I tell him.

"Wow, three Americans at Hogwarts! I don't think that has ever happened before!"

"Trust me, I think Hogwarts is going to see a lot of new things this year," Danny told him.

Cedric spent the next half hour telling us all about Hogwarts, making me more excited about going with each word he said.

Kimberly's POV

I couldn't help but look at the buildings around us in shock as we walked towards the bank, I had never seen anything like Diagon Alley, even in Asgard. When Elsa looked so excited about explore the shops for the next half hour, I couldn't say no to her. But as she walked off, I couldn't help but jokingly reminding her of what I used to tell her when she was younger. Not to make magic snowmen. I knew it would make her laugh and I watched her walk out of the bank, so proud of the girl she had become.

"I just realised, I never introduced myself. I'm Eliza Diggory and that's my husband, Amos," the woman who showed us to the bank said, pulling my attention away from Elsa.

"I'm Kimberly and that's my husband Steve Rogers," I said, pointing at Steve who was looking very confused at the magical money he was in the middle of exchanging.

"And I'm Tammy Odinson and the other very confused looking man over there is my husband, David who happens to be Kimberly's brother as well."

Eliza looked at me in shock, as if she was finally putting together who we were. I wasn't surprised, someone had to know who the avengers were at some point. But what she said next completely surprised me.

"You knew my father, Brigadier James Montgomery Falsworth. I grew up hearing so many stories about the Howling Commandos and how you saved his life."

"Of course, Monty would tell you that story, but honestly, I just did what anyone would have done," I laughed thinking back to the night the commandos came back from a mission where Monty had been injured. He spent the rest of the war thanking me, so it didn't surprise me that he continued to tell the story.

"But if wasn't just anyone, it was you. If you hadn't done what you did that night, I wouldn't be here today," Eliza told me, grateful for my actions all those years ago.

I could feel myself start to blush; I had never really thought of it that way. I just did what I had to do in the moment and didn't think twice about it.

"I guess you're right, but I never thought of it that way. And I am so sorry to hear that Monty passed away, he was a good man," I told her, remembering what I had read in the commandos files.

Monty had children later in life, according to his file but there was never much information about them and now I knew why. His file also said that he passed away the year before I arrived back in Tennessee. It upset me to learn that the only person remaining from the group was Peggy when I returned home. I wanted to reach out to them, so see how they were but I never got the chance.

"Thank you, I still miss him. He was a wonderful man. He would be so surprised to find out that our children would end up going to Hogwarts. He was surprised enough when I got accepted in to Hogwarts!"

"Well, that was... interesting," Steve said, walking over to us finally finished exchanging the money.

"They look very friendly," Tammy giggled, looking over as David who was now exchanging his money and looked like he was about to lose it. "I better go help him before he ends up getting us all kicked out of the bank."

While Tammy helped David over at the counter, Eliza and I explained our connection to her to Steve. He was shocked to find out who she was at first, but then wanted to know how she was and how Monty was after the war. By the time that Eliza had told Steve everything, both David and Eliza's husband had finished in the bank.

"Mum! Dad! You should see the shops, there amazing!" Elsa called out, running up to us with Steve having to catch her as she slid to a stop.

"Easy there, snowflake," Steve laughed, holding on to Elsa.

"I guess it's time to go shopping," I said, looking at Elsa's excited face.

"Did you want to meet up and sit together on the Hogwarts express?" Eliza's son asked Elsa, blushing slightly.

"Of course! I'll see you there, Cedric!" she said to the boy excitedly.

When we all said our goodbyes, Tammy and I decided we would take Elsa and Danny to get there things separately. With the two of them together, I just knew we would get nothing done.

I wrapped my arm around Elsa's shoulders as we made our way down the street. As I watched her, as she kept glancing over her shoulder, looking back at Cedric. So, I decided it was time to be the embarrassing Mum.

"So, Cedric. He seemed nice and he was kinda cute, don't you think?"

Elsa's POV

"Mum!"

I couldn't believe that she just said that and in front of Dad as well. I could feel my face going red as I tried to escape her grasp.

"Wait! What's this about Falsworth's grandson being cute! I don't want to hear any of that! Your only 11, young lady!" Dad, half joked.

"Wait, what do you mean Falsworth's grandson? Cedric's granddad was a howling commando?" I asked, happy to get away from what mum had just said.

"I know, it's a small world. It turns out that Cedric's mum, Eliza is the daughter of Monty," Mum told me as we made our way down the street towards the wand shop.

"That's crazy," I said as we walked in to the wand shop that was called Ollivander's.

When we walked in, an old man climbed down from a ladder that was leaning against a cabinet that had what I guessed were boxes of wands in it.

"Miss Rogers, I have been expecting you," he said, walking over to us.

Honestly, by that time, I wasn't surprised that people in the wizarding world knew who you were before you even had the chance to introduce yourself.

"Now, what is your wand hand," he asked me, pulling out a tape measure.

"Um, I'm not sure. But I am right-handed," I told him as he started taking measurements.

After taking the measurements and writing down a few notes, Mr. Ollivander pulled out a few wands and handed them to me to try. When I tried the first wand, I broke a vase that was on his desk. With a wave of his own wand, Mr. Ollivander fixed the broken vase and handed me the next. We continued the same pattern for the next four wands he handed me. When I broke the ladder with my last try, he paused to think.

"I wonder..." he said quietly to himself before he headed in to the back room to get what I assumed was another wand.

I looked at my Mum and Dad, who both shrugged their shoulders. Just as confused as I was. Mr. Ollivander finally returned, holding a pink and gold box. Opening the box, he handed me the wand which had a pink gemstone on the end and floral designs carved into light coloured wood. As soon as I picked up the wand, a warm feeling spread through me, making the wand feel like it was always a part of me.

Authors note: Yes, I know that its Seraphina Picquery's wand. But I just love to design of it and think it would look amazing with a floral design etched into the wood

"This is most interesting. You wouldn't happen to have Asgardian blood in you, Miss Rogers," he asked, smiling down at me

"Why do you ask," Dad asked, putting an arm protectively around me.

"It just happens, Captain Rogers, that the wand that your daughter is holding is made from the wood of Yggdrasil."

"Yggdrasil? The world tree? How is that possible, only Odin has access to it," Mum said, all but giving away that we were part Asgardian.

"You are correct, Dr Rogers. But many years ago, I made a deal with the All Father, himself, so that I could have a small amount of wood from Yggdrasil. In all my years, no one has been able to wield a wand made from the wood of Yggdrasil. That is until your daughter walked in today. Not only is that wand made from the wood of Yggdrasil, but contains a hair from the tail of one of the Valkyrie's unicorns tail and the gemstone from the original Asgardian palace. You are going to go on and do amazing things Miss Rogers, but I do have one word of advice. Do not tell many people the true origin of the wood your wand contains. Many people would do anything to have a part of something so sacred as Yggdrasil."

I looked down at the wand in my hand, feeling proud of my Asgardian heritage. I couldn't wait to get home and tell Loki all about it.

That afternoon, after having to meet up with Tony, Pepper and Cassy and having to talk Tony through exchanging his money while trying to explain why he couldn't just use his credit cards, we had finally got almost everything on the list.

"Well, there is just one more thing that's not necessary but I think we should get," Dad said, juggling all the bags of the things we had bought and the supply list.

"What's that, Steve?" Mum asked, looking at the robes that we had just bought.

"A kitten!"

I turned to look at Dad, to make sure he wasn't joking. When I looked up at him, he was smiling in a way that told me that he wasn't joking.

"Really, Dad? I can get a kitten!"

"I think so, now let's go pick one out."

I practically ran in to the pet shop which had cats, owls, toads and rats everywhere. As soon as I walked in, I saw the kitten I wanted. It was a lot smaller than the rest and was hiding behind the rest of the litter. She was pure white and had the biggest blue eyes I had ever seen. The moment I picked her up, she started purring and curled in to my neck.

"I'm going to call you Freya," I said, holding her close and feeling happier than I had in a long time.
