Skylar's POV
I'm going to see Kendrick for the first time again since our date and I don't know whether I should be nervous or act cool and pretend it doesn't affect me. Sure we've spoken over the phone but that's over the phone! Seeing him in person will be different.
I mentally curse myself for rejecting all those other date offers. Maybe then I would've gotten some experience as how to handle situations like these.
"Am I the only who's noticing all these strange black cars driving around in our neighbourhood?" My dad asks looking out the front yard with the curtain shifted just enough for him to see
My eyebrows furrow in confusion but realization quickly draws in, Ben. I'm hoping and praying that Victoria hasn't cracked just yet. If so, i can just imagine the dangers I'm in.
"Skylar." Dad calls after I don't respond and approaches me
"Uh yeah, I've been seen them at school too." I say shaking my head out of the trance I was in
"Maybe the Government is busy with something or do you think its one of those 'catching the bad guy' missions assigned by the FBI? Maybe the suspect lives in our neighbourhood." He says excitedly
I'm going with the bad guy theory because technically it is.
"You watch too many crime shows dad. I'm heading off to school now." I say getting up and rinsing my cereal bowl before putting it in the dish washer
"Alright, ride safe okay and avoid being shot at if things go down." He jokes. "I love you." He tells me
I go over and give him a kiss on his cheek as well as Sergiana
"I love you both." I say as I head out the front door to my transportation
Yep, I got a bicycle ladies and gentlemen. I look like a normal teenager now.
Who am I kidding, normal teenagers have cars but no, Randy doesn't approve of that. It's okay though, riding the bicycle with the wind blowing in my hair on a beautiful Monday morning is something I could get used to.
One of the cars come driving slow past me as I paddle away on my bicycle. They stop for a moment and drive at the same pace as me. My heart is pounding hard against my chest but I don't show it. I have a huge child like grin on my face, pretending that its a wonderful day and I'm just another normal teenage girl.
The passenger window is rolled down revealing a scary looking bold guy with a scar above his left eye and on the corners of his mouth. He doesn't say anything, he just continues to look at me
Rude!
"Hi." I say in my girliest most annoying voice with the stupid smile still plastered on my face.
The guy rolls his window back up and they drive away. I let out a shaky breath and continue my way to school.
Coming into the gates, I spot another black vehicle parked not far away from the school.
Wow.. I didn't think I was that much of a deal
"Hey hey hey." I greet Gabby as I walk over to my locker. Hers is not far from mine
She takes her attention away from whatever she was doing and looks at me, sending a smile my way
"Hey, you seem cheery. I'm guessing that date went well." She smirks
"Don't tease me please. I'm already nervous to see him as it is." I pout and she laughs
My pout is replaced by a frown. She walks over to me and places both her hands on my shoulders
"You shouldn't be nervous, just be yourself, push your awkwardness aside and all will be fine." She says
"Is that what you do with Raynold?" I smirk
A blush creeps up her cheeks and she drops her arms from me picking her bag up from the floor
"Yeah no, I'm done helping you." She says, her cheeks red from embarrassment
"I'm just kidding, how is it going though?" I take out my math textbook and close my locker
Her I'm super shy smile returns and she looks down to the floor, fidgeting with her fingers
"Its going really well. I told him that I liked him a few weeks ago and yesterday he asked me to be his girlfriend." She says
"And, did you say yes?" I ponder and she nods her head
I am freaking! Awww my Gray ship has finally set sail
"Omg, I'm so happy for you." I bring her in for a hug. "Did you tell Karen yet?" I ask and if just on cue the devil herself shows up
"Tell me what?" Karen asks as she stops in front of us
"Ray and I are seeing each other." She blurts out
Karen's eyes look like they are going to burst out of their sockets. She looks between Gabby and me mouth open in shock
"Wow. I did not expect that. Wait, so you guys have been fooling around behind our backs all this time?" Gabby and I nod our heads
"I have been waiting on this day. I was starting to think you're lesbian. She laughs "I mean you've never spoken about a boy that you possibly fancy after Allisandro." She adds
I stifle a laugh because Gabby will for sure bite my head off.
"Shut up Skylar." She angrily says, making me want to laugh out loud. "Karen, don't bring that up." She whines
Karen raises her hands up in surrender and takes a step back
"Hey beautiful ladies." Seth greets as the boys join us
Ray walks up to Gabby and kisses her cheek when he thinks nobody is looking. I gush at the two
"Hey." Kendrick hugs me from the back burrying his face on the crook of my neck.
I blush at the gesture and pry his hands off me, taking a step forward. He looks at me confused when I do that
"We are in a public setting and your psycho of a girlfriend can show up anytime soon." I say placing my hands on his firm chest to create space between us
"We're guessing your date went well." Ray taunts
"And I see you have a girlfriend now." I shoot back
"Touche." He laughs. "I hope you broke the news to Vicky Kendrick because I'm not too sure she's going to be happy with this. She's crazy about you, literally." Ray teases with that stupid smirk on his face pulling Gabby close to him
Vicky dear is such a freaking thorn in my side. Out of all the people to mess with, Kendrick picked her. Whatever, he can do whatever he wants. We're just friends.
"I don't owe her any shit explanation, we aren't and were never anything." Kendrick rolls his eyes
He says this now and then he's all over her the next minute. Maybe she is his pimpress
"Will you walk your talk when she does find out?" Seth raises his brow
Yeah, will you Ken?
He doesn't say anything and that somehow causes a little crack in my heart. I really don't know what I was aiming to get out of that date. Maybe I shouldn't have said yes
"Hey Skylar, Karen and I are going to the bathroom do you want to come with?" Gabby asks
"We are?" Karen attempts to whisper and Gabby lightly elbows her on her side
I know what she's doing. She's trying to get me out of my head and away from this conversation. I couldn't be more grateful to her at this moment.
"Oh yeah we are, we have to go do uh... girl stuff. Yes, girl stuff." Karen says her eyebrows furrowed
Gabby has a pained look on her face but quickly recovers from it and turns her attention away from Karen onto me.
"Sure, I would love to go listen to the sounds of girls peeing and welcome the overbearing smell of expansive perfume." I say and the boys put on disgusted faces
I chuckle and the three of us excuse ourselves and make our way to the girl's bathroom.
"You alright?" Gabby asks as I hop onto the bathroom counter
"Yeah, I'm okay. Why wouldn't I be?" They both give me sceptical looks before accepting my answer
"I can't wait to see the look on Victoria's face when she finds out that Ken asked you out on a date!" Karen squeals
I want to laugh but I can't, if Vicky dear is as petty as I think she is, then none of this will end well
"Yeah, it'll be the face of the century." I say trying my best not to sound sad or defeated
"I hope it is worth the amusement." The devil herself walks out of one of the stalls
My heart just dropped into my stomach and came back up again beating rapidly against my ribcage looking for an escape
"What's the matter, cat got your tongues?" Victoria smirks. "You should always ensure that the person you are talking about isn't in the same space as you." She says walking out of the bathroom
Mother of biscuits I'm screwed!
"Victoria wait!" I hop off the counter and run after the person that could possibly destroy me
"I really liked him and you knew that Skylar." She says coming to a hault and facing me, her eyes glistening with tears
I bite on my bottom lip, looking down as the guilt starts to consume me.
"Why Skylar? Are you so selfish that you want to take everything away from me?" She asks tears threatening to spill from out of her eyes.
I look at her, confused by her question. What exactly is she on about?
"I didn't take anything from you Vicky I-"
"That's where you are wrong Skylar. All I ever craved for was my father's love and I thought becoming a street fighter would somehow bring me closer to him. I was wrong, all he ever thinks and talks about is finding the mighty SkyHigh so much that he's neglecting me now." A tear rolls down her face
I still keep my face emotionless because as much as I want to comfort her and tell her everything is going to be fine, it's not and I should never show weakness to the enemy
Her dad is the biggest douche on the planet.
"Then I find a boy I like and guess what consumes his thoughts almost all the time, finding Sky fucking High. The idiot is so dumb that the same bitch he went on a date with is her." She laughs, tears streaming down her face
"Look Vicky, none of that is my fault. I didn't ask to be SkyHigh, it was pushed onto me. Neither did I ask Ken out on a date. I know I could've still said no but in all honesty, I didn't want to. So I'm sorry that all of this is happening to you, I really am but you gotta get out of your arse sometimes and stop looking for people to blame." I say
That's definitely going to cost me.. Well done Sky.
"You say that because you aren't in my situation but tell you what, let's see if you're still going to say the same thing after I tell my father that I know who SkyHigh is." She threatens wiping away her tears and walking away leaving me with my panicked thoughts
