Sage
“Axel NO!” I hear my voice echo.
Too late.
Her body fell to the floor with a thud.
I put my foot forward but I heard a gush of wind and was immediately pushed back, a hand around my mouth. I look up to see none other than wide blues staring back at me.
“Shhhh” Nathaniel put a finger to his lips and a crack rang in my ears. I blinked wondering if I heard that right. The crease of Nathaniel’s brow told me he heard it too. My eves instinctively shot over his shoulder to see Axel drop to the floor. I felt my breath cut short and almost screamed his name. I wanted to run over to him but Nathaniel still had his arm around me.
“Not yet, Sage” he whispered “Not yet”
I understood what he meant and nodded, taking a step back into the shadows, pulling him along with me. I heard footsteps. It had to be a witch coming in to check if Axel was actually down. But why do I smell dog?
My stomach turned when the person came into view.
“That's…”
“Stefan?” I could hear the disgust dripping from Nathaniel's tone. I felt my brows crease subconsciously and shook my head.
“This son of a bitch” I heard a salty mumble beside me yet again. It took everything in me in that moment to not rush over there and rip his spine out of his throat.
"Not yet" I heard Nathaniel's low whisper as if he read my mind.
"Hmmm" I felt my nerves on edge, my fangs scraping against my bottom lip.
I watched every move of Stefan's. He knelt down beside Axel, almost as if he was checking to see if he were awake. But he didn't have the chance to move another muscle because the next thing we saw something fly in his direction, within the blink of an eye he was pinned against the wooden wall behind him, a long log through his ribs.
My eyes immediately flew up to the door to see Xander standing over the threshold, eyes golden, fangs bare, fuming in anger with his fist resting against the door frame.
I was never happier to see Xander. I rushed over there immediately - I could hear screaming and shouting in the distance. But I had a feeling no one was getting down here anytime soon.
"Xander" I stopped at the door and watched the relief wash over his face.
"Sage…" he breathed out and glanced over my shoulder "Nathaniel…never thought I'd be happy to see you"
"Funny" Nathaniel came up behind me "We need to get out. Come on"
"What?" I turned around to glare at him. I wasn't leaving until I killed each and every one of these pests.
"Can't" I looked over Xanders shoulder to see Arabella coming up beside him.
“Arabella! Are you alright?” she looks so disheveled.
“We’re sealed in here” she shook her head, ignoring my question, looking at the door frame.
"Sage... Kinsley ran a…"
"We got her. She's safe. Ezra sent her back to Ethan" I cut Xander off and saw him breathe another sigh of relief.
The sound of a loud cough made me whip my head around to see Axel struggling, coughing. I rushed down to him to try and help him up.
"Sage...we have to get out" I heard Nathaniel's anxious voice. But my eyes were fixed on Axel who was still coming around.
"No" I growled.
"We gotta get them out of here…" he was inspecting the barrier keeping Arabella and Xander in that room.
"I said NO" I growled.
"Don't be a fool Sage. We're outnumbered. We already have two people caged and one man down" he gestured to Axel and looked up behind us… "Son of a bitch" his mouth hung open with a baffled expression.
I turn around to see what he was looking at. The second my eyes landed on that empty wall Stefan was pinned to not a minute ago, my expression was the same as his.
"No" I whispered, almost not believing my eyes.
"I have a bad feeling" Nathaniel breathed out.
"The only way to get us out of here is to kill the witch that cast the spell, Nathaniel" I heard Arabella and saw Xander pinch the bridge of his nose.
I felt Axel's chest rise under my palm and looked down to see his eyes shoot open. He probably didn't realise it was us. A gush of wind and he pushed my hand away and was on his feet a good distance from us.
"Axel. Axel...its us" I put my hand up and got to my feet.
"Fuck" he breathed out, with his hand to his chest "When did y'all get here" he looked around "Why are you two still there?" he creased his brows at Xander and Arabella.
"Stuck. You gotta kill the witch who cast it" Arabella stated.
Music to my ears.
"That's not a problem" I smirked.
"No it is. I have a bad feeling, Sage. Let's just burn the fucking place down"
"Not all of us are fireproof here, Nathaniel" Arabella snapped at him.
"Neither am I damnit. You got a better idea?"
"We kill them all" Axel was standing beside me in a second, a bloodthirsty look in his eyes.
Nathaniel let out a defeated sigh. Why was he trying to run?
"Sage?"
I heard a ca in the distance and look up at Axel to see if he heard it too. He did. His brows creased and we turned towards the door at the same time.
"Sage? Nathaniel?"
This time I recognised it. Ezra.
"Down here" Nathaniel called in a muted voice.
I looked back at him with an "are you fucking kidding me" look. Why do people end up doing the stupidest things at the most inopportune times.
He realised what he did, his eyes immediately widened and flew over my shoulder to where the door was. The door swung open, causing all of us to look in the direction.
"Who's that?" Arabella asked, unable to see the main door from where she was.
"There you guys are" he smirked at us, covered in splashes of blood, looking like he just had the time of his life.
"Did you find them?" he walked in licking the blood off his lips.
"Yes but we need to get them out of here" I gestured to the door. Ezra took a few strides in to face the little door Xander and Arabella were in. Xander gave him a nod while Arabella just creased her brows at the sight of the blood all over him.
"Then we burn the place down" Ezra shrugged as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Thank you" I hear Nathaniel.
"Wait. Where's Donovan?" Axel's concerned voice cut them off.
"Upstai…"
The door swung open again with a blast but we didn't get time. We didn't even get a chance to blink. A sharp metal rod was already pierced straight through Ezra's chest.
"No" I screamed.
"Fuck"
"What?"
The rest of them shreiked as well.
I took a step towards him as he fell to his knees, eyes closed, bleeding out.
"Sage" I felt Axel's strong grip around my arm.
"Move" I try to move him awa to run to my brother but then I looked up to see his brows creased, eyes fixed ahead so I followed his gaze. There were two shadows. Standing in the doorway.
"What the fu…"
Nathaniel as fast, he sped past us. I thought he was going to charge them but instead he rushed to the spot we had Stefan pinned against the wall. He picked up that piece of wood that had injured Stefan and flung it in their direction but I went straight through - straight through them. Almost as if they were a mirage.
Of Course they wouldn't come down here on their own.
I rushed to Ezra to kneel down but a I felt was a sharp pain shooting up straight from my spine to head.
I pressed my fingers to my temples trying to ignore it.
"Ugh" I heard Axel behind me. I turned around - he was holding his head, hunched down too. His blood red eyes shot open into mine and I saw dear in them.
The pain got worse in a split second. My knees face way and I screamed in pain. Nathaniel was the first to fall. Arabella was next. I saw Xander trying to fight it. I tried to keep my eyes open but my vision was blurring out.
"Sage" I heard Axel whisper.
The sound of a loud shriek was the last thing I heard before I blacked out.
