"Here. You can have this."
Your eyes widen when someone suddenly holds a heart-shaped lollipop infront of you, and you turn to the person to your left to see Jungwon, seated right next to you with a smile on his face.
"Thanks?" you tell him as you hesitantly take the lollipop from his hand.
Jungwon's smile brightens, reaching his eyes as he looks at you before looking ahead, unwrapping his own lollipop and placing it in his mouth.
You turn to the lollipop he gave you, doubt on your face as you spin it between your hands.
"Why don't you eat it now? It's not poisoned," you suddenly hear Jungwon speak from beside you and you turn to him with your brows furrowed to see him looking innocently at you.
"How would I know that? We're not even close and you're suddenly giving me a lollipop?" you tell him, slight annoyance in your voice.
Jungwon just smiles brightly at you. "You're welcome." He looks forward again as the both of you continue waiting for the bus that will take you to school.
...
Jungwon is your schoolmate. Your houses are in the same neighborhood, and his house is just three houses away from yours. But the two of you never got close... because you didn't want to.
Jungwon is the school heartthrob, and you getting involved with him, especially since you're a girl, means you getting yourself into trouble. And, yet, here you are, accepting a heart-shaped lollipop from him while the both of you wait for your bus. Thankfully, none of your schoolmates are around to see that happening.
You did find him cute, though. And you often find yourself smiling when you see him acting cute. But that was all. You had no other feelings for him whatsoever.
You're in your classroom right now. It's lunch break, and your friends are currently trying to drag you out of your seat just so the three of you could go to the cafeteria to have your lunch. You won't budge, though. You're too tired to move, and your last class, History, just made you feel even more tired.
"Yah, Y/N-ah! Just get up already will you?" Mira demands as she continues pulling on your arm.
"We're never gonna get our lunch on time if you don't come with us already," Sujin tells you as she tries to pull on your other arm.
Meanwhile, you groan as they continue insisting on you coming with them. "Aish... I already told you guys you can go on without me," you tell them, your voice slightly muffled because of your head resting on your desk.
"But you're gonna be all alone if we leave you here," Mira tells you as she stops pulling on your hand. You just know, by the tone of her voice, that she has her hands on her hips right now.
You raise your head a little as you look at your friend, confirming her position. "I'll be fine, I promise," you tell your friends as you place the hand Mira had just let go of under your head, using it as a pillow.
"Won't you feel hungry later on?" Sujin asks you this time and you just smile playfully at her while tiredly shaking your head.
"Nope."
Your friends sigh, then they look at each other, shrugging later on. "Alright, fine," Mira says as she drops her hands and Sujin slowly lets go of your arm. "We're going, but we'll be waiting for you at our table in case you change your mind."
"Nah, I'm pretty sure I won't," you tell her, smiling playfully again. Mira rolls her eyes, then gestures to Sujin for them to go.
"We'll be going now," the two girls tell you and you nod at them. Once they're gone, you rest your forehead on your arms folded on your desks once again and close your eyes, eventually dozing off.
...
"Hey. Y/N-ah~ Y/N? Wake up. Y/N~"
Your brows furrow as you hear a small voice repeatedly saying your name. The voice seems to be from somewhere close, but you think that it's probably just from a dream. You had just woken up from the nap you had taken, but you still feel groggy from your sleep as you slowly open your eyes.
"Y/N? You awake?" you hear the voice say again, and you realize it isn't a dream.
"Aish! I already told you guys to go ahead without me. You're gonna miss having your lunch," you mutter stubbornly as you keep your head down.
"Uh... I think you're mistaken," you hear the voice say. "It's me. Jungwon."
You feel your eyes widen when you realize who was talking and you immediately raise your head to see Jungwon looking back at you while he sits on the chair infront of your desk. You shout out of surprise as you quickly move away from him. "W-what are you doing here?" you ask him with an accusing tone.
"Have you eaten lunch yet?" he asks you with innocent eyes, ignoring your question.
You're taken aback by his question, but you decide to just go along with where he's taking this conversation since you don't really have a choice. You guess it's better to answer his question rather than ask him why he's in your classroom. "No," you tell him simply as you calm down and sit in a more relaxed way.
"Why not?" Jungwon asks, and you look at him with your brows furrowed.
"Why do you ask?" you ask him. You're wondering why he's suddenly being so friendly with you today. The two of you have never really talked before, and you thought you'd never have to talk to him. So why is he talking to you now?
Jungwon smiles simply at you before taking something out of the pocket of his uniform jacket and handing it to you. Your eyes widen when you see a sweet bread in a small plastic bag in his hands and you look at him, blinking several times. "Here. You can have this since you haven't had lunch yet."
"W-why... Why are you giving me this?" you ask him as your eyes travel from Jungwon to the bread then back to Jungwon.
Again, he just smiles at you, his eyes closing in the process. "You should eat. Otherwise, you'll feel hungry later on in class." He holds the sweet bread towards you and you hesitantly take it from him.
"Thanks," you mumble as you unwrap the bread and start nibbling on it. While you're eating, you notice Jungwon looking at you, and you turn to him, still holding the bread to your mouth., feeling awkward with him staring at you. "What? Why are you staring?"
He smiles once again, his smile reaching his eyes as he chuckles. "You're cute. Like a bunny."
Your eyes widen, and you quickly look away from him as you feel your face heating up. "S-stop it," you mumble. Thankfully, he listens to you this time, and you notice him take out another plastic bag from his other pocket before unwrapping it, revealing another sweet bread which he soon starts eating.
"He's sharing the sweets he has with me again. Why is he doing that?" you wonder as you continue eating the bread he had given you. You glance at Jungwon to see him cutely nibbling on his own bread. "He's cute, too... just like a bunny."
Suddenly, Jungwon glances towards you but you quickly look away from him. The two of you continue eating silently, with the both of you glancing at the other every now and then, not even realizing that the other is doing the same.
...
"Yah! Lee Y/N! What's this I hear about you and Yang Jungwon?" Mira asks you with a tone demanding for answers.
Your eyes widen at your friends words and you quickly look up at Mira as she approaches your seat along with Sujin. "W-what do you mean? What about me and Jungwon?"
"Mira and I heard students talking about Jungwon coming to our classroom just to eat with you," Sujin tells you, almost excitedly. "Tell me the truth, Y/N. Is there something actually going on between the two of you?"
"No! Of course, not!" you immediately tell them. "I don't know why, but ever since this morning, Jungwon has been acting really friendly towards me!" you explain.
"Oh..." Sujin says as a look of disappointment forms on her face.
"Maybe he likes you?" Mira suddenly says casually and you feel your eyes widen as you turn to her, your face starting to heat up.
"W-what? No way! We're just neighbors and we never even really talked before today!" you tell her, denying her words.
"Nah, I'm sure of it," Mira says with all seriousness, and you look at her with a look of doubt.
"You really think so?" you ask her and she nods.
"Hey, why don't you ask him so you can be sure? You take the same bus as him when you go home, don't you?" Sujin suggests and you turn to her with wide eyes.
"What?! No way! It isn't as easy as you think!" you tell her. "I can't just ask him that straight out! I'll look silly if it turns out he doesn't actually like me."
"But what if he does?" Sujin asks you, and you realize that what she and Mira are tying to say could be possible.
What if he really does like me? And if he does, what would that mean to me?
Apparently, it was also the end of classes when you and your friends were talking, and after packing all your things, you bid goodbye to your friends and walk to the bus stop where you find Jungwon already there, waiting for the same bus you would be taking to go home.
You approach the bus stop, and Jungwon turns to you as soon as you reach the benches. He smiles at you, but you don't respond at all as you sit beside him, keeping your distance. Even as you do so, however, you can still feel his eyes on you. You turn to him with your brows furrowed. "Can you stop staring?"
"Why are you avoiding me?" he suddenly asks, surprising you and making you feel taken aback.
"What do you mean?" you ask him, your eyes still wide.
"You always seem to be distancing yourself from me. Why is that?" he asks you, and you notice just how serious he is as he asks that question.
You lower your head as you look down at your feet, swinging below the bench. "I don't know... Maybe I'm just scared?" you tell him, mumbling the last part.
"Why would you be?" he asks, a hint of innocence in his voice.
Your brows furrow again as you look back at him. "Seriously? You don't know? Are you even aware of how popular you are? Don't you know that if I were ever to get involved with you, I'd be putting myself in so much trouble?"
"Are you even sure about that?" he asks and you're taken aback once again by his words. Your eyes widen as you look at him, and he just smiles at you. "There's really no reason for you to be scared, you know. Even if you did get into trouble because of me, I'd try my best to get you out of it since it's also my fault." Jungwon's smile brightens and you suddenly feel your heartbeat accelerating at his words.
You quickly look down again. "Why are you being like this?" you ask him.
"What do you mean?" he asks you, this time, and you lift your head to look at him again.
"This. Why are you suddenly being so nice to me? Why are you suddenly talking to me like we're close and why do you keep giving me sweets today? Do you like me or something?!" Your eyes widen when you realize what you had just said, and you quickly look down again, suddenly feeling embarrassed. "S-sorry. I didn't mean to say that. Just... forget I ever said that," you tell him, hoping he'll listen to you again this time.
Jungwon doesn't answer, but you can still feel him looking at you with that soft gaze. "You know... about the sweets I gave you today..."
Oh, shoot! He's not letting it go, isn't he?
"There's one more I forgot to give you," he tells you.
You were about to turn to him to tell him that you didn't need it when you suddenly feel something on your cheek. Your eyes widen and you feel your heartbeat accelerating again as you quickly turn to Jungwon to see him smiling at you, his face just inches from yours after having just pulled back from kissing you on the cheek. His smile brightens, reaching his eyes, and you feel your face heating up for the nth time today as you quickly look away from him again.
"About your question on whether I like you or not, I'm pretty sure you can already guess the answer to that," Jungwon tells you and you feel his gaze moving away from you as he looks down at his hands while fiddling with his fingers.
You glance towards him to see him smiling shyly as he looks down. "Cute," you think to yourself as a shy smile forms on your face as well and you look back down at your feet swinging back and forth beneath the bench.
The two of you continue waiting for the bus, neither saying a word as both of you are too flustered to say anything. But both of you are smiling, and this time, the both of you are aware of it.
