You and Me

Maybe I was you,
And you were me.
And we saw everything
There was to see.
And at one point,
At one time,
Mine was yours
And yours was mine.
Alone together,
As one being.
I have seen everything
That you are seeing.
Because in one moment.
As one mind.
We shared the same soul,
Just at a different time.
As the day ends,
And Earth fades to space,
We felt the same things
Just in a different place.
After looking through your eyes,
Just as you've looked through mine,
We slowly realize that "we're"
Quietly turns to "I'm".
Only then do we know,
That we are one in the same.
As our lips fail to utter
Our own separate names.
We finally reach heaven,
But there is no one to be found.
God says,
"It seems to be that you are the only one around."
"You must be mistaken"
We say, quite confused,
"As pronouns are something you shouldn't misuse."
God then chuckles,
And gets on his feet,
"There's someone who I think you'd like to meet."
He then leads us to a large, silver mirror.
The image it shown couldn't be clearer.
Reflecting with bold pigments and light,
Shapes and faces of every color and type.
We then turn to God to ask, "how could this be...
There is simply no way that this can be me!"
"Oh but it is," Almighty God replied
"Why don't you take a closer look inside?"
And so we did, we stepped right in.
Our own shapes and color beginning to thin.
Something here just wasn't right,
As we felt our souls dissolving into light.
It was then so clear what had been done
Every soul had been merged into one.
I really was you.
And you really were me.
We were every person that was ever meant to be.
