The bright lights blinded me as I walked through my door. Through my door that doesn't seem right, I thought before turning my mind elsewhere. I looked at the wide field outside my house from my small screened in porch. The frigid air burned my bare legs as I tiptoed to the screen door to get a better look at whatever it was I was trying to see. Maybe it was the tractor? My mum did enjoy late night tractor rides. Although this light seemed different. It was much clearer than the tractor ever seemed. And I could see this light from my bedroom. The tractors headlights are far too low down to light up my room like these did. I felt an uncertain breath catch it my throat as I stepped on my toes to keep them warm. Yet, as I continued to think about it I couldn't quite feel my toes. Maybe I didn't have any? That's impossible.

I looked back out my bedroom window and the sun was rising. Wait. Wasn't it just midnight? I checked my phone and it said 4:37. Oh crap. I'm late. Mum will be furious. I scrambled out of bed and pulled on my warmest pants, fleece lined of course, and my warmest jacket. I had to because it was freezing out! At least it was last night. I run downstairs and pull my right boot on, but before I can get the other on I'm stopped.

"What on earth are you wearing." My mum walks in through the back door.

"It's freezing out! I need winter gear!" I conclude.

"Well. I'm not sure why you should when its only September." My mum gives me a concerned look. "Have you been sleeping enough?"

"I guess not. I'm sorry I'm late, by the way, I think I need to set a louder alarm." I sheepishly dug my toe into the gnarled floorboards.

"Thats ok. Go take that winter gear off and get some reasonable clothing on. The chickens need their coop emptied an hour ago." She made a chopping motion with her hands. "Andiamo! Let's go! Chop chop!" Her classic motivational speech.

I trudged back upstairs with a cloudy mind. This has happened before, but not to this extent. I usually snap out of it within a few seconds. I run through my usual morning schedule without any more hiccups. My chores usually take until lunch. Today I made an egg scramble with fresh tomatoes and feta that I made a couple days ago. I try to eat the same thing every day to keep my rhythm going. I find I lose myself too much without a steady schedule. My mum and I ate in comfortable silence before I went up to my room to start my classes for the day.

I usually start with English, and then onto math, science is usually third and I often try to end with geography, but this can change day to day based on the assignments my teachers give us and how much work I did the day before. If I'm not working on assignments for these classes I'm doing history, practicing my flute, I take Spanish, even though I'm terrible at it, and anthropology.

The darkness overwhelmed my system as I tried to open my eyes. I couldn't even tell if they were actually open or not. I heard some murmuring just far enough away I couldn't hear it. Classic. I thought. Why is it that in movies and books there is always murmuring just out of reach of comprehension. I feel like that's such a cliché. The murmuring started to move to the front of my head. I heard a single phrase through the darkness.

"Honey! Are you ok!!"

It sounded like mum, but it was too dark to see anything.

"Jesse. I'm calling the doctor."

The darkness was slowly fading into a pale blue scene. There was a solid ground but it didn't seem like the ground and sky intersected anywhere. It was just the same shade of blue forever. I sat up, slowly, from experience fainting and knowing that getting up too fast can cause you to faint again. I felt perfectly fine, so I fully stood up and began moving around the space.
