Peggys POV
Fuck John Laurens.
That's all I have to say.
I'm getting ahead of myself, let me rewind a little bit.
"Peggy Schuyler, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"
Tears of joy formed in my eyes.
"Yes of course John!"
I told my sisters, he told his friends, I would be the last Schuyler sister married. 2 months into the engagement, I went dress shopping with Eliza and Angelica.  We picked out a beautiful long white dress,

We picked out a beautiful long white dress,

It was all I'd ever wanted. Long and sleeveless with a poofy bottom. Like a princess dress and I'd finally had a reason to get it. We chose a cake 5 months in to the engagement, 3 tiered, red velvet. It was beautiful. 6 months in, mailed the invitations. Then it was finally the day. Eliza did my hair, Angelica did my makeup. I put on the dress. My mother's veil. I was ready. Grabbed my fathers arm, the music started playing. The nerves kicked in on my end, apparently they had been in Johns head for a while. My father walked me down the aisle. I stood at the alter, we exchanged our vows. The pastor asked if anyone objected and someone did, someone unexpected.
"I'm sorry, Peggy, but I can't do this."
I stared at John in disbelief. Tears formed in my eyes. I turned toward the aisle and stormed off. I ran to where I had gotten dressed. Eliza followed and Angelica took off toward John. I hoped she yell at him like she yelled at Alexander when he cheated on Eliza. I tore off the veil. Sat down, and cried, bawled if you will. Eliza burst through the door.
"Honey, " She said, and sat down on the floor beside me. I did nothing but turn to face her and hug her, crying on her shoulder. I swore to myself I would never fall in love again but what did I do? Fell in love immediately after. After I'd cleaned myself up and changed from the dress I loved so much and then hated because it reminded me of him, I went to the bar called "One Last Drink" and ran into one of his bestfriends, Marquis De Lafayette. I almost turned and walked out when he called my name, "Peggy!" I turned around and sighed.
"Hello, Lafayette" I slowly walked over to his table.
"I am very sorry about John. He was fine all day today until then."
"It isn't your fault Marquis."
"Waiter?" I called, a short man rushed over
"Yes, madame?"
"Can I get a shot of tequila?"
"Of course."
After many more shots of tequila and a few bottles of beer, Marquis insisted I walk home with him.
"I don't need an escort Marquis."
"Your rather drunk, belle fille"
"Did you just flirt with me the day your best friend leaves me at the alter, bel homme?"
"Yes, and you flirted back."
"That's true."
"We should do this more often." I said
"Run into each other in overly expensive bars on the day my friend left you at the alter?" He laughed
"You know that's not what I mean," I laughed
"Je vais avoir une terrible gueule de bois"
(I'm gonna have a terrible hangover in the morning)
"Oui oui."
I was so drunk when we got to his front door I fell through and hit the wall with my face. He grabbed my arm and walked me to his room. I laid on the bed and passed out instantly.
Lafayette's POV
Well she fell asleep faster than I expected. Didn't even have time to say Goodnight. I tucked her in and walked to the living room. I grabbed an extra blanket I had stored in the closet and laid on the coach. I fell asleep almost as fast as she had. I woke up the next morning to the smell of French Toast. Let's just say, it smelt amazing.
"as-tu cuisiné?"
"Oui!"
"Shouldn't you be vomiting from a hangover right now?"
"I cook when I'm hungover. It's weird."
"juste un peu. What time is it?"
"10 am"
"Early."
"Oui."
"Whatcha cooking?"
"French toast and eggs."
"Sounds delicious!"
"Hmmm. Not sure it will taste that way."
A few years later
Peggys POV
"Mon amour?"
"Hmm?"
"I know you said you'd never do this again. But, make me the happiest man alive. Marry me?"
"Marquis. Of course. Just promise you won't do like John did and walk out?"
"je te promets, mon amour."
(I promise you, my love)
"Je t'aime"
"Je t'aime aussi"
So 2 months into the engagement I made sure the dress still fit, 5 months in we picked cake. 3 tiered, coffee flavored. 6 months in, we sent the invitations. And then the day was finally here.
Eliza did my hair, Angelica my makeup. I put on my mother's veil. Locked arms with my father. And this time, I didn't get nerves. My father walked me down the aisle. We exchanged our vows. The pastor asked if there were any objections. I felt like throwing up. There were no objections. I sighed in relief.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
We leaned into the kiss at the exact same time.
I was officially married. I turned around and smiled at my sisters. I saw a tear run down Angelicas face.
14 years later
"So that's the story of how you and daddy met?" My beautiful daughter, Elizabeth, asked. She was 13 now.
"Yes, it is."
Marquis came in chasing our son, John, and yes, we do realize it's an odd name to name our son considering John was the man who ran out in me at the alter but think about it, if John wouldn't have ran out, me and Marquis wouldn't be married in the first place. So, I thank John Laurens for this wonderful life I live.
