It's Zakai's birthday. Your son's two years old already. This isn't how you expected his birthday to be. You're trying to smile and stay strong for him, but it's hard. Even walking hurts. Moving around with a ruptured pelvis is agony. Kara gave you meds for when the pain gets particularly bad and she said it should be gone in a few days.
6am. You still have to work, even if it's from your bed. Casyo's sat beside you, making phone calls. You don't know the details but when his mandem went to bury Gabriel's body, a girl saw them. She ran away before they could talk to her, though. Cas is beyond pissed. If she goes to the feds, only God knows what's gonna happen.
"Say no more, g. Inabit." He cut the phone and played with your hair to relieve his stress. "How you feeling, mamì?"
"I'm fine, Cas, you're the one that's stressed. Make sure you let it all out before Z's party; I wanna have fun today."
He sighed, "yeah, don't worry. We gotta set up his presents before he wakes up."
You went all out for Zakai's 2nd birthday. He has a huge stack of gifts in the living room from you and Cas, then a special one waiting outside. He can open everybody else's after. Even strangers and fans are sending him gifts to your P.O box. He has thousands. More than you ever got as a kid. Some of them, you'll probably never open. "We should start now, he'll be awake soon."
"Aight."
Cas got out of bed and walked round to your side to help you up, reading something on his phone as he does so. You put your hand in his and slowly pulled yourself up off the bed. It hurt like hell. Once you were standing, you looked back to the bed for your phone. Oh no.
Blood. Everywhere.
On your shorts, on the sheets, on the duvet. You didn't even feel it. How didn't you feel it? "Shit."
"What?" Cas's eyes glance at you, then fixate on the bed. You saw them widen for a split second.
This is so embarrassing. It's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened in your life. He doesn't even know what to say! "Babe, I'm really sorry, it was an accident, I didn't mean to-"
