Into Nowhere

Prologue

I have been battered by life but I won't consider it a life of hardships. I see it as a life of hardwork.

I hated how we were treated as we lived but I don't despise the way we are living.

I grew in a country where people were labled by their status. Where people were divided by areas with different oppurtunities.

Everyday I can see people with different kinds of hunger in their eyes. While people crawled, I saw crocodiles walk with two feet in broad daylight.

I hated them. I thought I can take the easy way for me, my family and my fellows as soon as I achieve my dreams but I was too young and naive to assume that.

That would be too good to be true for I didn't realize that there's a lingering threat that has been lurking since the it all began.

"Finished?"

Sumilip kami sa isang crack mula sa mga pader na nagiba upang malaman ang kalagayan sa labas.

"Mukhang wala na nga sila."

Nakiramdam muna kami sa paligid upang makasigurong wala na ang mga nagkakagulo sa labas.

Everyone fell into silence at parang hindi makapaniwala sa nangyayari ngayon.

"That's it?"

Everyone started moving.

We squished ourselves upang lumabas mula sa aming pinagtataguan gamit ang maliit na butas.

Muling nagsalita ang aking kasama.

"It all started with a bang then happened in a zap and ended with-"

"silence and,"

I squinted my eyes for a moment nang matamaan ito ng araw nang kami'y makalabas na.

"Silence and corpses. That's sweet." then he whistled.

Sabay sabay namin siyang tinignan ng masama then he responded with an awkward smile.

"Didn't expected this to end this way. Ano ito doomsday?"

"Kinda but we got survivors instead."

I took a deep breath but instead of fresh air, I can smell the scent of rust, I smell blood.

"Are we the only one who made it through?" tanong ko.

I gazed upon the mountain of corpses that are lying in the ground.

"Seems like it."

I felt a stab on my heart but saw hope at the same time. I still believe there's still someone alive out there.

"Is this the end?"

"No, we're gonna push through no matter what. This is just our starting line."

I clenched my fists. "Then... where the hell are we heading to?"

Tinignan ko isa-isa ang aking mga kasama.

"Into..."

He paused as he roamed his sight around the open space created by the numerous wars.

"Into?"

We all asked in chorus.

"Into Nowhere, I guess?"

He then chuckled in danger.

Are we dead yet?
