Erika POV

"Collin?"

I called out my best friend next to me.

"What?"

The disinterest in his voice was bothering me. Let's spice up our playtime.

"You ready?"

I got up from the grass. Glancing my friend to do the same. He did but way more slowly than I expected. This guy seriously was boring!!

"For what?t"

Did he have to ask?! Ain't the answer obvious.

"To fight!"

My words lit up his expressionless face. I knew he would like them as much as him. It wasn't because he turned ten before me that he was stronger than me.

After a few minutes and a few bruises. We laughed and fell to the ground.

"Why was he alone?"

I looked behind me and found Lawrence, Collin's brother, on the bench alone reading a book. He was four years old younger than us. He was five and will turn six next week. Why was I the only one born in winter?!

"He doesn't like to fight it not necessary, so don't bother-"

Collin was wrong, who wouldn't like playing fight! And who wouldn't like playing with us?! I got back up on my feet and waved towards Law.

"Law!! Come over here!!"

I shouted way too loud as I saw Collin irritated face or it might be because he didn't want his brother involved, I wouldn't know.

It seemed like I startled our baby brother too. He got up and came leaving his book behind. His steps screamed reluctance but he came anyway, that brought a smile to my already grinning face.

"Let's play fight"

Law was already in front of us. He was calm and quite shy, the complete opposite of us, Collin and I. My proposition put a frown on his warm face.

"I don't-"

His frail voice didn't need to make a full sentence, all he needed to do was throwing punches.

"You have to dodge my punches and punch back! Ready, Start!"

I was ready! Let's have fun the three of us!

"But-"

I couldn't what he was trying to say that my landed square in the middle of his face. He was no longer standing but was on the floor holding his nose in his delicate hands.

I tried to look closer and he was trying to suppress his unshed tears. Was it too strong?

Collin got up to see closer and he was bleeding, and a lot. I was so sorry I wanted to help him. Collin might be furious, he told me that his brother wasn't fond of the game in the first place.

Collin turned towards me and started laughing his ass out.

"Congrats! It was a nice one Rika!"

That brat he was supposed to help Law. I got closer to help him but he brushed my hand and ran off.

I knew that mom and dad would surely kill me for this.

...

That was how Lawrence Martin Sterling, started avoiding me for the past twelve years. I always felt bad about that day but I respected his space and never tried to be his friend.

However, I never knew that my choice would delay my meeting with my other half.

You heard right.

The boy who despised me from an early age was my mate.
