y/n was laying in her bed recounting the days events. she sat up and decided she might as well get some work done at her desk for the next morning. when y/n had moved here, her family had gone to visit the neighbors. the two closely bonded and as much as y/n loved toby, she basically spent every waking moment with tommy. his window was even across from hers and the two would sneak out onto the roof together at times. she smiled at the thought of them sitting together in the cold before shaking her head and continuing work. about a hour or two later she collapsed back on her bed but not before sending a text

she threw her phone to the side and brought her hands up rubbing her eyes vigorously. she loved her friends and they meant the world to her, she wish they knew that. soon after she drifted off to sleep.

the next morning she threw on a random outfit and went downstairs to eat breakfast. she poured a bowl of cereal and checked her phone to see plenty of twitter notifications. a fan must have spotted the three of them walking and took a picture. everyone knew they were friends, why would this be any different? thats when it hit her, she scrolled and found the picture at hand. the picture showed the three walking, it was when y/n was dragging toby away from tommy and it appeared as if she was holding his hand for the duration

y/n felt her heart drop. sure she'd gotten hate messages, that was bound to happen, but nothing like this. her head dropped into her hands, she tried to cry, but she couldn't. years prior she had gone through the worst time of her life. an old friend was seemingly set out to destory her life, and she did. y/n was driven to therpay and diagnosed with severe depression. since then, she'd gotten better. she didn't need medicine anymore and she was truly genuinely happy with her life. yet at times small things could tip her, tip her into the deep abyss that would soon consume her. the boys knew lightly what she had gone through, but she never wanted to burden them

his heart stopped at the message, sure they'd hung out before, but something was clearly upsetting her and he had no idea what it could be. throwing on a blue sweatshirt he quickly ran out the door grabbing the spare key to her house. he came inside and closed the door to see her on the couch with her head hanging down.

"y/n?" he called out, but she didn't respond. tommy walked over and sat down beside her, she wasn't crying, that was a good thing right? before he could collect his thoughts she turned her phone screen to him, tommy saw an array of messages, how could some people be so cruel.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS" he shouted as he looked through them "WHO THE FUCK WOULD SAY THIS TO YOU, OR ANYONE" he couldn't believe it. all he wanted to do was protect her, all he wanted to do was be there for her, but he didn't

"i'm sorry" his voice softened, he watched the girl lean against him and her leg shook slightly. tommy moved his arm placing it around her waist pulling her closer to him. "i won't tell toby, not if you don't want to, but i'm here ok?" he searched her face for some sort of response. she smiled weakly as tears slowly streamed down her face.

"you'll be ok, you'll stay here" tommy was whispering at this point, not wanting his own voice to break. he moved his hand and wiped her tears just to see more replace them.

<y/n pov>

she couldn't help herself. she hated feeling this way. especially around tommy. would he ever talk to her again? would he see her differently now? was she about to lose one of her bestfriends? thoughts raced around her head and she couldn't help but start sobbing in the poor boys arms. there they sat for a while, until she could finally control herself again but she didn't want to move

"this is stupid" she finally spoke up, his hand brushed her face lightly wiping away the rest of he tears, his hand lingered for a moment before he pulled away nervously

"you've done nothing wrong love" he shook his head trying to not get angry once more

she felt butterflies at the name, it took her a moment but she realized the way his arms tightened around her, the tone of his voice as he spoke, the way his eyes never left her, not once.

"toby and i love you" he hesitated near the end "ok?" he said softly as if asking for reasurrance

y/n nodded, she kissed his cheek lightly before sitting up again, as much as she wanted it to be more, it was a friendly interaction. yet as soon as she turned to look at him and saw his face flushed red that's when she knew. they both new, their dynamic changed. neither would admit it, not yet at least

"do you want to stream" she stood up and reached a hand out to which he took bringing him up to her level, or much above. the blond boy simply towered over her

"hm yeah i'll go home and start it up" he looked around looking for his belongings

she was slightly dissapointed, but she brushed it aside "see you soon" her voice picked up more, y/n walked off to her desk waiting for the notification about 10 minutes later for tommys stream.

holy shit. of course he was happy to be there for her, who knows what would have happened if he wasn't. of course now was not the time to admit anything, but there he was. there he was with her. she sat right in his arms, and then she fucking kissed him?? well only on the cheek. "whatever" he hummed quietly before starting his stream. he sat upright in his chair and greeted everyone "SUP CHAT"
