“Thank You,” Julius mouthed.

“You are welcome,” Rebekah mouthed back.

“So why exactly is my dear friend despondent, I am not a gossip but I must know,” she teased, sitting up and hugging her legs.

Those words were enough to make Julius expression sombre.

“Have you ever feared you were falling in love with someone you should not dare fall for, because you know it would harm you both?” he hesitantly asked, heart pounding.

“Hmm,” she hummed. “I do not know if what I am about to say may be relatable, but I have–am in love with someone I should not be in love with as well,” she spoke, staring down at the man beside her.

“Really?”

“Yes,” she nodded, undoing her ponytail “But when love is forbidden, it is both dreadful and magical,” she added with a wink.

“I highly doubt that,” he humorlessly laughed.

“So..who is she?”

She.

“There isn't anyone, I was just wondering what you would have done if you were in such a situation,” he lied, hand absentmindedly twirling in the grass.

“Hmm I see, you do not trust me, is that it?” She huffed in fake offence.

“It is nothing of that sort–

“Shush, fine, then I will tell you a secret of mine, maybe then you would trust me.”

“You do not have–

“I, a female of African descent and a pauper, is in love with a white science lecturer, isn't that laughable,” she interrupted with a matey grin.

“You are in love with Mr Webb?!” he gaped, never suspecting her feelings.

“I prefer it when we refer to him as Obadiah, but yes, yes I am,” she playfully chaffed, laughing at his reaction.

“I do not see why you cannot love each other just because of your different ancestry,” he uttered, also sitting up.

“Everyone isn't as noble as you are Julius.”

“I am not noble, I do not deserve such a title,” he insisted, frowning. “I simply state what is unnecessary and dare I say absurd.”

“Do not worry about me,” she assured, proud that she had chosen such a kind-hearted man as a friend. “Obadiah will never love me because it seems he is already in love with someone else, and I accept that,” she added, but Julius knew better.

“Sorry,” he gently touched her clothed knee sympathetically.

“You shouldn't be,” she shrugged, letting out an awkward chuckle. “Also if you dare tell anyone about this, I will hunt you down and stuff you into a boiling pot of broth.”

“I wouldn't dare,” he laughed.

“Soo..let me guess, is it Eliza?”

“What?”

“The lady you are in love with, it is Eliza, isn't it?”

“Oh my God Rebekah,” he groaned.

“What?” she laughed.

“You know what.”

“Very well, so it must be Harriett then? She is a very intelligent young lady!”
