"Well you're looking lively this morning," Blue said sarcastically as Red placed down his tray full of what the cooks called food, even though it looked like nothing but a gray protein bar.
"Sleeping in space wasn't as easy as I thought it would be," Red replied with as he took his seat in the chair across from Blue. During the process, he felt as if all of his crewmates' eyes were on him. Judging him.. laughing at him. The joys of being a victim to social anxiety.
"What? Ya' homesick?" Blue said as he chuckled.
"What?! No!" Red said as his tried to use his hands to hide his embarrassed expression.
"Sure~" Blue made sure to exaggerate the word.
Red stuck his tongue out at his annoying friend. However, no matter how annoying Blue was sometimes, Red could never stay mad at him. He let his mind wander as him and his friend ate their breakfast in comfortable silence. When they finished, they got up and dropped their empty trays off at the counter. They then walked out of the cafeteria, talked about each other's tasks for the day, then parted ways to begin their new daily routine.

Ugh, why can't I get this right?!
Red's thought as he tried to start the reactor once again. He had trouble with remembering things, and that sort of quality wasn't helping with the situation. After a few more tries, Red sighed heavily and sat down on the floor. He was growing frustrated. He noticed how his other crewmates did all their tasks so easily, this one included, and couldn't understand how. Yes, he graduated from one of the most prestigious schools in America, maybe even the whole world, but still. Everyone had their flaws, but this was one Red wouldn't accept.
He then got back up and began to try again, pressing the buttons in the correct order. He was just about to finish when suddenly there was a loud noise. An alarm. He learned what this meant while training. It was an emergency meeting. Aggitated about being so close to finishing his task, Red began walking through the halls and back to the cafeteria. When he reached the table in which everyone was gathering at, he took a seat next to Blue, who had saved him one. They exchanged a worried glance, then began to focus on what was happening.
"What's wrong Yellow? Why'd you press the button?" Lime asked.
"Yeah what's wrong?" Orange joined in.
"Yeah," Brown said.
"The Commander has sent a message from Earth." Yellow answered.
"What? When?" Pink asked.
"Just now." Yellow responded with. "He said that we need to stop by a space station and get some more fuel. We're on our last 2 containers."
"Well, is there one near by?" Cyan asked.
"Yes, actually. About a day's journey from our coordinates." Yellow said. "The Commander also said that once we reach the station and retrieve the fuel, we'll be picking up a few crewmembers from the XX150. He said something broke out on their ship and that they're the only survivors."
A few gasps came from a couple of crewmates. Others began to murmer and discuss what might have been the cause for such an outbrake. However, Red didn't know how to react. He was frozen. He couldn't process what Yellow had just told them.
People died..? But how? Weren't we supposed to be safe up here..?
More and more unsettling thoughts began to fill Red's mind, but before they could continue, Red felt someone place their hand one his shoulder. It was Blue.
"Hey, don't worry about it. Everything will be fine," Blue said reassuringly, and the look in his eyes gave Red almost instant relief. He put his attention back on Yellow when they began to speak again.
"The Commander knows that this is some quite unsettling news, but the survivors need help, and that's our job," Yellow said.
"Yeah, true. I mean, isn't that our mission? To help the entire human population?" Orange asked, siding with Yellow.
"Yeah, you're right," Pink said.
"So how many crewmates are joining us?" Blue asked.
"Just two," Yellow answered.
Only two survivors.. Red thought.
"Well, that's all. You may all continue with your tasks," is what Yellow concluded with. After hearing these words, the crewmates all parted ways and carried on with their day. However, it was not the same for Red. He couldn't stop thinking about the two crewmates they would soon be picking up.
Only two survived..
It seemed unreal. The XX150 was the first ship to launch into space for the very same mission Red was on now. Though, it didn't end well for those aboard it. No one knows what happened, but now that everyone knows there were two remaining crewmates, it'll be chaotic. Or, depending on the new crewmates, a few families down on Earth might be thankful that their thought-to-be-dead relative was alive. Whatever the situation, Red still felt uneasy. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but his gut was aching. Something wasn't right. Something was going to happen. Something bad. Red was confused, but in the end he simply just tried to push these suspicions away. It was hard at first, but after finishing up a few of his tasks, he was able to completely forget about what had occured earlier. If only he knew his suspicions were correct..
