~Just You and Me~

~ Chapter One ~

And the story begins..

You got this, is what Red normally told himself when he felt nervous, which he found out was quite often.  For example, when he first took an interest in astronomy.  He was just a boy, six or seven maybe, and that was when his father got him his first telescope.  He bought it for educational purposes, but it ended up turning into something more.  Every night, no matter the weather, Red would point the tip of the telescope towards the black sky and look through it for hours on end, studying the stars. 

As he grew older, he became interested in astrophotography, and celestial objects.  Pretty soon, he became interetsed in the universe as a whole. 

After years of schooling and hours put into training, Red graduated from Harvard, then eventually NASA's Space Center.  All of that lead to this moment.  He was now boarding the XX200, the ship that would be taking him to the unknown world beyond.

"Everyone please take your seats and fasten your seatbelts.  We take off in timinus 5 minutes," said a loud voice coming from the intercom above. 

After hearing this, everyone began settling down in their assigned seats and buckling their straps.  As Red sat down in his, he noticed that some of his crewmates seemed mostly at ease, as if this trip was going to be nothing.  He, however, was a nervous wreck.  Being shot up into space wasn't what was bothering him, it was his mission.  His Commander had assigned him and his crew to explore Fotop, a planet outside of their galaxy.  With the world constantly creating new objects and materials, creating a ship that could travel through space as a plane through the sky would was nothing.  It was normal.  And so was being gone for a year to see if Fotop is safe enough for humankind to live on.  Well, at least the Commander thought it was.  

The trip there was said to take four months, then they would stay at Fotop for four, if everything was safe.  Then, after their research is complete, they would spend another four months to travel back to Earth.

In the midst of thinking about all this, a thought crossed Red's mind...What if there are aliens?

Now this firghtened Red.  On Earth he had read about aliens and how there are most likely different species of them.  Some were shapeshifters, some could teleport, some could even make multiple clones of themselves at a time.

Before Red could continue thinking about such things, one of his crewmates, who had been his bestfriend since he enrolled in the space center, took his assigned seat next to him.  "Hey, Red!"

"Hey, Blue!" Red responded with.

"You ready for this?" Blue asked as he strapped himself in.

Red sighed.  "Honestly, I'm not sure.  I do know one thing:  I don't think I'm ready to eat oatmeal and protein bars for breakfast for an entire year."  The two friends both laughed and were about to carry on with the conversation, but they were suddenly interupted by the intercom.

"Everyone make sure your helmets and straps are in place.  We take off in timinus 10, 9, 8, 7.." 

As the countdown continued to lower, Red's heartbeat continued to go faster and faster.  Then before he could think about anything else-

"..2, 1.  Blast off." 

They were off.  As the ship shook and squeaked, Red felt it get higher and higher into the atmosphere.  He squeezed his eyes shut, praying that he would soon stop being jerked around in his straps.  He could see the difference in the colors of the sky as the altitude became higher.  He was soon able to see stars, flying past the windows in a glimmering blur.   Then suddenly, the jerking stopped.  All was still.  Red could feel himself become weightless and his body floated until it was baricaded by the straps.  Everyone began cheering.  They had made it.  They made it past the first step of the journey.  Red and Blue then looked at each other and smiled.  They were finally getting closer to their goal.  To their dream...
