The army successfully defended the monastery from the imperial army, but they needed reinforcements and supplies. Byleth is the daughter of Rodrigue, so she writes a message about a request for reinforcements and supplies and she sends the message through Mariana, a five year old female owl she got as a present on her 22nd birthday. Less than a day later, Byleth was talking to Felix when Mariana returned with a response from their older brother and father. The message said they wanted the kingdom army to meet up with them in Ailell, the valley of torment, much to Byleth's dismay, as she knew how horrible that place was. During the battle in the valley of torment, Glenn and Rodrigue appeared with reinforcements. The enemy leader was killed by Dimitri, which ended the battle, allowing a meet up to happen.
