2 months later..

ASMAU

I just finished shopping with Saratu and the kids, and we were making our way out of the mall and heading to the car.

"Mummy, we forgot the colors," Noorie reminded.

"Noorie, why are you telling us just after we came out? Well, we can't go back in, so tell Daddy to get it for you when he's coming back from work," Safeeya suggested.

"No, Daddy won't know the type of colors I want, besides, they only sell it in the mall. Mummy, please let's go back," Noorie pleaded.

"You know what? Saratu, you guys should head to the car. I will go back in and buy the colors for Noorie," I stated.

"Okay, Aunty, take care," Saratu said. "Let's go." She went ahead with the kids to the car, while I went back inside.

On my way, heading towards the area, I bumped into someone and almost slipped and fell, but fortunately, the person was quick to hold me.

I looked up, and guess who I saw?

Abdul.

(If you guys can remember, Abdul was her ex-boyfriend whom they broke up with because of her marriage with Abubakar.)

"Abdul," I whispered unbelievably, and he let go of me carefully.

"Asmau, wow, it's you? How are you?" His eyes landed on my large baby bump, and I could see a glint of sadness in his eyes.

"I'm fine, Alhamdulillah. What about you? How is everyone at home?" I asked politely.

"Alhamdulillah," he paused. "I can see you're expecting a baby, congrats! I'm happy for you and Abubakar," he said, giving a little smile.

"Ooh yes, I'm expecting twins, in shaa Allah. Thanks," I said, returning the smile.

"Ma shaa Allah! Allah ya raba lafiya. I gotta get going. See you soon, and take care not to bump into another person again," he laughed, and I smiled.

"I will, In shaa Allah. Thank you, and bye," I walked away, feeling strange from the unexpected encounter with my past.

I finished getting ready and walked over to the mirror to have a look at myself. I wore a beautiful black bubu lace and tied my headtie into the ture kaga tsiya style. As my pregnancy had progressed, I prefer wearing bubus since most of my regular clothes didn't fit me anymore. I chuckled at my reflection, thinking that I was starting to look like I could pop any minute. I had been experiencing frequent back pain, but the doctor assured me it was normal.

I couldn't help but think about my encounter with Abdul at the mall the other day. Should I tell Abubakar about it? I wondered. I didn't know whether to be open and honest with him or keep it to myself to avoid any misunderstandings and drama.

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't realize when Abubakar entered the room. His voice brought me back to reality.

"Asmau," he called, breaking my thoughts.

"Oh, yes," I replied and looked up at him.

"I've been calling you. What were you thinking about?" he asked, curiously.

"Habiby, I need to tell you something," I said, hesitating a bit.

"Okay, go ahead,"

But just as I was about to start, his phone began to ring, interrupting us.

"Excuse me, I have to take this," he said, and I nodded in understanding as he answered the call from Iman.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes, Iman always finds a way to intrude on our family time even on weekends.
