Love has to be the strongest emotion ever known by humans.

Love either starts or ends wars. It grants amazing strength or gives neverending weakness. Love is what pushes people forward, is a form of limitless energy. A reason to live, a reason to die as well. Are there even words to describe love? Love is great and vast, bigger than the blue sky and deeper than the universe itself. No one will ever understand its origin and no one will ever be able to fight it. Love is too strong, too deep to be battled against. No creature in existence can possibly fight love and come out victorious. On the contrary, every single soul that has tried to fight it ends up caught up in utmost defeat.

But if love is so big and powerful, how can it happen that sometimes, it just isn't enough?

That's precisely what crosses Taehyung's mind as he once again finds himself staring down at the kitchen tiles. A tear threatens to spill from his left eye, he won't let it fall. He is tired of being the weakest one, he is tired of feeling as some sort of punching bag. Seokjin stands a few feet away from him submerged in a similar state.

Even with his gaze down, Tae catches on how his boyfriend's hands shake. He remembers having calmed down that nervous tick so many times before but now he doesn't want to reach out. He doesn't want to touch his Seokjin at all. If anything he wants to walk away but then again, he is tired of being the weakest one.

It has been like this for the last two months, what was once a fairytale, has now become a horror story. What was once their love nest has now become a cold junction of white walls and overly expensive decoration. Argument after argument, fight after fight, it tires anybody and Taehyung guesses they are no exception. He still loves Seokjin and maybe Jin still loves him too but in cases like theirs, love is simply not enough.

It is not enough to keep the flame burning; not enough to keep the warmth of their home; not enough to keep them from breaking down while the other isn't around. It is just not enough. They might love each other with everything they have but if their minds aren't working in sync anymore, there is no amount of love that can possibly keep them together. And maybe they are both afraid of it. Maybe that's why none of them has said the inevitable yet, even though they both have probably thought about it multiple times. This conversation has been hanging on a thread and now it seems like it has finally become too much.

The air is heavy tonight. The only sound that resonates across the room is that of water boiling in a pot. Taehyung scrunches his eyes, decided on raising his head again, show Seokjin that he is not just a punching bag. That he is as displeased with this relationship as Jin is. He wants Jin to know that he isn't perfect either and he has big flaws that Tae just can't stand anymore. He plans on telling him slowly, menacingly, so that not a single word he says is taken as a joke.

His idea, however, gets cut when Seokjin breaks the silence of the room with exactly what they both have thought but until now have not dared to say.

"Tae, let's break up"

Taehyung instantly lifts his gaze towards Jin. Locks his eyes with him, it suddenly feels all kinds of wrong now. He guesses that Seokjin has gotten to a point where nothing else matters anymore. Where he just can't go on anymore. Taehyung has also been very close to that end and while it is sad, it is necessary.

Had it been at an earlier point in their relationship, had it been just a couple of months ago, had it been before they started to realize that they are not as compatible as they thought they were, Taehyung would've freaked out. He would've cried, approached Jin, told him that he loved him, asked for him not to leave. He would've been ready to beg because as unbelievable as it is now, there was a time where he couldn't have been able to imagine himself without Seokjin. That time has passed though and regardless of the immense love he still feels for Jin, he knows that it is better to let go before they end up in even worse terms.
