I shivered in my cold cell. The dim lighting from a small window was the only way I could tell it was morning, and time for what I had been dreading for the past few weeks, the auction. There was an auction like event coming up, and instead of art, or retro video games, they were selling people. Ever since I had been kidnapped around a month ago, I have been taught the basics of being a 'proper servant' and simple signs of submission to the upper class. Today's events guide me to my future, no matter how uncertain I am now about what it holds.

My thoughts were interrupted by the loud creak of the metal door to the prison like facility, "Alright everyone, it's time for your big day. Today the Dragon King is making an appearance, so be on your best behavior. Remember that the consequences of not being bought can range from the whipping and rubbing alcohol, to death depending on your strikes." Announced the burly man that had first broken our spirits when we each arrived. He looked into my cell tentatively, studying my small body with an emotion that could only be described as lust, "You're a beauty, Little Athena, you don't have to worry about punishment even if you're misbehaved because I'm confident you'll still be bought." He said in a husky voice. I backed further into a corner and he chuckled, amused by my fear.

He exited the hallway, and soon another man in a freshly ironed polo shirt and expensive looking dress pants came in before hauling a bony boy from a nearby cell. He came in repeatedly, taking someone new to their doom each time.  It wasn't long before he got to my 'humble abode' and hoisted my small frame out of the shadows. He brought me out the thick metal door and began to speak, "Head up, facing the crowd, I wouldn't suggest being disrespectful in front of the king." Having planned some sort of escape, I grabbed a small hairpin from my head, attempting to look like I was smoothing it down. I had found it in my cell, probably the belonging of the previous tenant. Having been stripped of everything I owned; it was my only hope. The man brought me to another door and opened it, revealing a small crowd. He pushed me through and shut it behind me and I was left to face the eager buyers.

They eyed me hungrily as the burly man announced my price and profile, "Alright here we have a western beauty, caught off the coast of America but with seemingly European heritage. She's around 19 years old, standing at 5'2, 113 pounds, but don't let that fool ya, she was a feisty one." The crowd let out a small laugh hearing of his success in breaking me, "Starting bid $100,000!"

"$100 thou!" Yelled a man in the back.

"$110,000!" Retorted another.

The bidding continued on, and before long it was upwards of a million. My burly captor seemed entranced by each new number, and I saw my chance. I sat down on the ground, pretending to be exhausted from waiting for a winner and started using my hairpin to pick the lock on my shackled legs. A few moments later, I heard a reassuring click and the lock came undone. I looked around the room and saw two men fighting over me at nearly two million and the rest of the crowd distracted by their display. I locked eyes with a man in the far corner surrounded by what appeared to be bodyguards. He was wearing a dazzling cloak covering almost all of his features, only fully revealing his piercing green eyes. I felt his stare linger, and slowly trail down to my shackles. At that moment, I knew he knew what I had done and was ready for him to announce that I was unlocked, but instead continued to stare.

I could feel the challenge radiating off him as if to say, "You don't have the guts to run off." That's where he was mistaken, I would do almost anything without regarding the risk if there was even a slight chance of success. I looked around for a way to escape but found none that wouldn't have me running through the crowd. I met the man's gaze again, seeing the triumph and what appeared to be disappointment in his eyes. I slid off the heavy metal chains and saw him tense before grinning. I knew there was no way out of the room, but I thought I might as well make the best of it.
