After the empire captured the great bridge, Claude sent Dimitri a letter requesting his help with defending the aquatic capital from the empire. Dimitri agrees and takes Byleth with him when he leaves for the aquatic capital the next day. By then the aquatic capital is already under attack by the empire. When the emperor reaches Claude, Byleth has a short farewell message for her before she officially leaves the empire and sides with the kingdom. "Edelgard.", Byleth calls out, causing the empress to turn and face her former professor. "Why, Byleth?", she asks the former professor. "We've been looking for you for five years and when we finally find you, you're with the king! Why?", Edelgard cries out to Byleth. "I'm sorry, Edelgard, but Dimitri won't let me leave. Farewell, Edelgard.", Byleth tells her before she walks back to Dimitri and they return to the kingdom capital.
