Avengers, The moment I saw you

Ch. 2 "Facing Reality"

                                                                Dakota POV 

That night I stayed up, I couldn't sleep, The doctor's words echoing in my mind,

 "You have a rare condition," I can't even remember the name he said, 

"Your heart is weak," His voice echoed again, 

"You heart is struggling to keep up with the functions of your body," His voice echoed, 

"By the time you are of age 21, your heart will give out at this rate," His vice echoed yet again, 

"There is no cure for this as far as we know," He said again, 

I sat at my desk, looking through all possibilities in books for rare heart conditions, but every book I looked into every resource was the same, 

No known cure, I mumbled 

All the books I had out had some form of highlighted area due to my obsessive reading all night, 

I looked at the clock it was 4AM, 

I combed my fingers through my long dark hair, 

What am I gonna do? I can't tell anyone about this it will only cause worry, I thought as I looked up at the ceiling spinning in my rolling chair, 

I then let out a sigh, getting up from my chair and walking out the room to get a bite since I went right to my room after my appointment yesterday, 

I walked into the main room, opening the fridge, putting a piece of pizza in the microwave, so sue me I'm fifteen, I thought 

As the microwave dinged I took it out and sat on the counter taking a bite of the pizza, 

"Pizza for breakfast that's a change," I heard 

I look to see Steve, 

"Yeah, well what do you eat a piece of toast and a grapefruit?" I said smirking 

"Well I'll tell you one thing it isn't pizza," Bucky said walking in chuckling 

"So what are you doing up at this hour?" Steve asked 

I just shrugged, 

"Couldn't sleep, how about you two?" I said 

"Same," They both said at the same time, 

I wonder how my device is doing down in the lab I never did finish it yesterday? I thought 

Let me explain, ever since Pietro's almost death, I decided I wanted to make something to heal all major injuries, I'm almost on the brink  of the breakthrough but this condition thing is kinda putting a little kink into my plans, 

"Yahoo, Dakota you still with us?" Steve said waving his hand in front of my face, 

"Oh yeah, sorry did I space again?" I said smiling 

"Hey butt of the counter," Tony said walking in, 

"Right, sorry," I said jumping down, 

"So what did the doctor say?" Tony asked 

Everyone looked at me, you see I was worrying them with my dizzy spells and fainting randomly, 

"Oh, he just said it's stress and exhaustion," I said smiling 

"Well that could explain it, you seem to never sleep," Tony said 

"Neither do you," I said pointing at him as I was about to take another bite out of my pizza but Tony took it from me, 

I glared at him, 

"touche, and you definitely shouldn't be eating this at this hour," Tony said throwing the pizza away, 

"How about a muffin instead," Tony said tossing it to me which I caught, 

"Yeah, yeah," I said as I made my way to my room, 

"You guys know where to find me,' I said waving my arm

"I swear Tony she's just like you," Steve said 

"Well she is my little sister," I said as I watched her walk away, 

"And I would do anything to protect her," I said
