Pounding on my door.

Groaning, I sit up and rub my eyes.

Who's banging on my door??

"Y/N! Y/N! Open the door! Open up Y/N!" I recognize Theo's voice.

I hurry and open the door. "Theo," I stifle a yawn, "What's wrong?"

"It's one of the transfers."

The chasm seems louder than usual.......Or maybe that's my heart.

All the pounding in my ears growing louder and louder as a few Dauntless pull something out of the chasm.

"One of the transfers." Theo had said. What could have happened? Who was it? Why?

So many questions, so many thoughts. Rushing around my head, giving me a headache.

A crowd gathers around the chasm watching, waiting out of curiosity, confusion and some just for the adrenaline.

Theo stand to my right, his breathing heavy.

The crowd around us murmurs.

"I heard it was a transfer."

"Was he pushed?"

"Maybe he just fell, like on accident."

"Who was it."

My same exact question.

Who was it? Whose body is being pulled out of the chasm?

Two guys stand at the edge, using all their strength to lift the body over.

Theo grabs my arm. "I can't look."

The men pull the body up.

Swollen with water, the arm falls flismily onto the ground.

"Fucking christ." Theo let's my arm go. "I'm gonna be sick."

I can't move. I want to leave, but my body won't go.

Trapped in place, I can only stare.

This body is large and lifeless. Open eyes, with no soul to them. Those  eyes stare into nothing.

I knew he wouldn't join us, but I never thought he'd do this.

Al.

The soft boy, the bottom of the transfers.

I can't believe it.

Lana appears next to me. "One of the initiates.....what happened?"

"Sane thing that happens every year, he pitched himself over the edge." Tyler on my right.

"Dont be so morbid. Could have been and accident."

"They found him in the middle if the chasm. You think he tripped over his shoelaces and whoopsies fell 15 feet forward?"

"Have a little compassion Tyler." I say to him as I watch the scene.

We watch as they bring a black body bag to fill.

Too big to fit.

                   ⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫

My stomach is turning, my heart is racing.

Why?

Because I have to watch and listen to him.

He's climbing into the box for a speech. Here we go.

"Quiet down everyone!" He shouts.

All conversation cease to exist. "Thank you as you know we're here because Albert and initiate jumped into the chasm last night"

As he pauses all there is is the sound the chasm reminding us of the life it just took.

Eric continues. "We do not know why and it would be easy to mourn the loss of him tonight, but we did not choose a life of ease when we became Dauntless.

"And the truth is," He says with a smile, a cunning evil smile, " The truth is Albert is now exploring an unknown uncertain place. He leaped into vicious waters to get there who among us is brave enough to venture into that darkness without knowing what lies beyond it? Albert was not yet one of our members, but we can be sure that he was one of the BRAVEST!"

Shouts and cheers rise from the crowd.

"We will celebrate him now and remember him always!"

My stomach is doing flips while I watch blades and Eric a whiskey bottle.

Her eyes meet mine, then winks.

Bitch.

I turn around to leave, and as I am, I listen to the rest of the speech.

"To Albert the Courageous!"

The crowd roars. "To Albert! They chant his name over and over. "Albert! Al-bert! Ah-bert!"

The name slowly dies down as I turn into a hallway.

Poor Al. He had such a kind soul. So sweet. Its such a shame.

But that's Dauntless for you. They put so much pressure on transfers, who don't know this lifestyle.

Some are eager, willing to do anything it takes to get to the top, others, well, they just dont have what it takes.

The ones who dont make it are cast out, into the street with the other factionless.

To become nothing.

To be factionless, a fate worse than death.

I guess Albert knew that.

"- is to push you until you break, just to see how hard I have to press." I stop in my tracks.

Four?

What's he doing back here? Who's he talking to?

My brain splits into two. One half telling mr to turn around to walk away and mind my business. The other, telling me to go, that curiosity is apart of life, it won't hurt to listen in, being nosey is fun.

Which one do I choose?

I peak around the corner.

Making sure I'm out of eyesight, I see him.

Even with the dim hallway lights, I could easily recognize his strong build.

His muscles, showing off underneath that tight shirt. God, he just-

"But I resist it." His voice snaps me out of my thoughts.

I move closer to see who he's  talking to.

Damn these lights. I can't see their face.

That when I notice Four's hand on their chin.

My heart starts to speed up.

What's happening here??

Part of me already knows who it is. The other part.....

The other part still has some hope. I look again.

The other person,  is smaller, had a childish build. The blonde hair. "Why, why is that your first instinct?"

I sigh. Tris.

I start to zone out.

What could possibly be the reason he likes her? Why?

I move myself back around the corner.

Four......and Tris.
