Hopeless

Chapter I : We need you up there.

'' I can hear it's footsteps. It's coming for me. I am the last survivor of our ship. If you are hearing this, know that I probably didn't make it. Whatever that thing is...''

Loud bangs are heard on the tape, but the person continues speaking.

'' It isn't friendly. Whatever you do, don't come to this ship to investigate.''

Bangs get louder and you can barely hear the person speaking.

'' My name is Mike Richards. I'm from team Phoenix 15 who went to space 2 months ago. This is the end of my life. Tell my wife that I love her...''

Just as he says his final words, his screams can be heard from the recording. Recording suddenly stops. I lift my head and look above me. Standing there is my colleague Bryan.

''Still listening to that?'' Bryan asks me with a concerned look on his face.

''Yeah, it's been in my head for the whole day.'' I make a pause before I continue '' You know, that thing is still there, and I'm afraid that It will wait for us when we board on that ship. ''

Bryan looks at me, sits on the desk and starts looking at the spaceship we need to get in to today.

'' Well when we find that thing we need to make sure it won't be faster than us''.

Everything in the room is quiet. I look at my watch.

''It's 10 minutes till 12. We should head to the meeting.''

Bryan, still looking at the spaceship, quickly nods and stands up. We exit the empty cafeteria, and start walking towards the meeting place. It felt like the longest walk in my life. The hallway was empty, everyone was at the boarding station waiting for us to go on this adventure. I look at these green walls thinking how it maybe will be the last time I see them.

Bryan finally breaks the silence. '' What do you plan to do when we get back.''

I look at him and smile. '' You know, I never thought about that.''

'' So think now '' Bryan says.

I think for some time and turn to him '' I will probably kiss the grass because I missed it''

We both laugh to that, but as we are approaching the meeting place we lose smiles from our faces. As I push the door I see six people standing and looking at each other. Bryan and I come closer and introduce to the old guy that was looking at us. He is probably around fifty years old, his face is long with big dark brown eyes that look very tired, gray short hair and a big smile on his face. He opens his mouth and a very sweet voice comes out to greet us.

'' Hello, you two young gentleman, I am general Dwayne Evan Robinson and I will be your guide through this investigation. Right behind me are agent Daniel and agent Sanchez who are from the federal security department. Us three will make a team that will be on the line with you if you need any help up there. Our team will also have two doctors if you need medical assistance. Now if you don't mind me, I need to have a special talk with agents to see when the launch will take place.''

'' You can count on us to find out what happened sir!'' Bryan said.

We turned to the other 3 people that were there also. I looked at them.

'' So, should we introduced our self's so we can waste time until we start getting in the ship? '' said the girl. She had a few freckles on her face and a big welcoming smile, her hair was sky blue.

''I'll start.'' Said the guy who looked like he would be a typical high school bully.

'' Right, everything has to start with you Richard, you always need to be first'' said the girl, as she looked annoyed.

'' Shut up Sarah, no one wants to listen to you complain.'' he replied and looked back at us '' I'm so sorry for my sister's behavior, she is always jealous of me. Anyway, my name is Richard Poole, and this is my sister Sarah Poole'' he shows to her with his hand, and she shows him a middle finger.

Another guy turns to me and says '' My name is Jason Richards, nice to meet you'' I look at him, and greet him with a handshake. He was a Asian and looked like the smartest one of us five. As I tried to tell my name Bryan cuts me of and starts introducing himself to everyone.

'' My name is Bryan Phillips, nice to meet you all.''

I quickly start talking before someone stops me again '' My name is John Wolf''

If I was a stranger looking from outside I would think we were a solid team, but I knew we were a bunch of adults who didn't know what will wait for them up there. My thinking was cut short by the general Dwayne who came to us.

''It's time to go'' he said.

We all looked at each other scared because we knew that soon we will leave this earth and maybe never come back down. General Dwayne let everyone go in front of him, except for me, he was walking in the line with me.

''We chosen you as the leader of this team. This is a special device that you will only use to contact with me. We will talk every 12 hours, okay?'' he looked at me very serious.

'' Yes sir.'' I replied

''Fine. I will leave you here to dress up and head for the ship.''

We dressed up our suits quickly and started going towards the ship. As we were near I looked around me for the last time until I come back to earth. Slightly my view was getting smaller as I was passing through the door of the spaceship that will take us to unknown destination.
