Nevermind, The Rope Bridge Isn't Any Better

I felt a hand on my shoulder and immediately punched as hard as I could.

"Ow," Grover held his stomach in pain.

"Oh gods," I said. "I'm sorry, I thought-"

"You sure you're not Annabeth's sister?" He asked, laughing.

"Go," he said, cradling Annabeth. "I got her."

I nodded and went to help Percy and Clarisse.

They seemed to have switched roles. Polyphemus was now trying to destroy Clarisse who was too quick for him. Percy slashed at him while he was distracted.

I climbed a small hill to try and get an angle Percy and Clarisse were missing. I took advantage of the adrenaline running in me and I jumped on the monsters back. If he felt me he didn't show it.

I ran my sword through half his back. Now that, he felt. Polyphemus roared in pain and tried to swat me off his back. I held on tightly to my sword that was still embedded in him. Percy took a final slash at his ankle.

"Fall back!" He shouted.

Easy for him and Clarisse, they weren't fifteen feet in the air.

Reluctantly, I pulled my sword out and dropped to the ground. I fell hard on my side, probably bruising the ribs that Annabeth had missed.

Percy was at my side and hauled me up.

"Hurry!" He said, pulling me towards the bridge.

"Grind you into sheep chow!" Polyphemus threatened. "A thousand curses on Nobody!"

"Faster!" Percy yelled at Clarisse. I picked up my pace too, running alongside Percy now.

Percy shoved me forward onto the rope bridge. It was so shaky I felt that with every step I'd fall. That just motivated me to keep going.

"Grover," Percy yelled behind me. "Get Annabeth's knife!"

Grover eyes widened as he saw the cyclops barreling towards us. He nodded, taking out the knife and sawing away at the ropes holding the bridge together.

The first rope snapped just as Polyphemus joined us on the bridge, shaking it violently.

Clarisse was caught off guard and slipped. She yelled out. I grabbed her arm and hauled her back on the bridge. As soon as her feet hit the bridge she started running again.

The rope was almost cut as we dove for solid ground. We landed and the bridge fell.

Cutting the bridge didn't help. Polyphemus had made it across with us.

"Failed!" He gloated. "Nobody failed!"

Clarisse and I ran towards him to try and slash at him, but he easily swatted us away.

Clarisse and I landed hard on the ground and blood on my forehead dripped into my eye. I tried rubbing it away.

When I looked up, Clarisse was extending her hand towards me. "Thank you."

I took her hand and she helped me up. "You're welcome," I said

I looked towards the Cyclops and saw Percy angrily charging at him.

"Percy!" I shouted, but he didn't slow down. He began to attack the monster, slashing and stabbing in a frenzy that even caught Polyphemus by surprise.

For a moment, I thought, that was why Poseidon had presented himself to Percy not me. Percy was a great demigod. He knew his way with a sword, he had done heroic things. There's no way I could compare to that.

Clarisse and I made our way back to Grover. By the time we had reached him, Percy had the Cyclops on the ground and had his sword pointed directly above his eye. Polyphemus groaned.

"Percy!" Grover gasped. "How did you-"

The cyclops began to sob. "Please, noooo! M-m-my sheepies need me. Only trying to protect my sheep."

It's a trick, yet still, Percy hesitated.

"Kill him," Clarisse yelled. "What are you waiting for?"

I knew what Percy was thinking. Tyson. He couldn't look at the monster without thinking about him.

"He's a Cyclops!" Grover reminded him. "Don't trust him!"

"Percy!" I yelled. "He's not Tyson."

He didn't dare take his eyes off the cyclops, but he nodded, letting me know he heard me. That doesn't mean he'd listen.

"We only want the Fleece," Percy told the monster. "Will you agree to let us take it?"

"No!" Clarisse shouted. "Kill him!"

"My beautiful Fleece." Polyphemus sniffled. "Prize of my collection. Take it, cruel human. Take it and go in peace."

"I'm going to step back slowly," Percy warned. "One false move..."

Polyphemus nodded in fear.

Percy took a step back and faster than he could process, the monster slammed him to the side of the cliff.

"Foolish mortal!" he began to get up. "Take my Fleece? Ha! I eat you first."

"Percy!" I cried. I was angry. I wanted to rip Polyphemus' head right off his shoulders. I felt the chills all over and new what came next. I felt my eyes turn blue and I slipped away.
