Hwanwoong sat on the beach, letting the ocean breeze sift through his blonde hair. It was peaceful here.
He watched ahead as a seagull swooped down from up high only to snatch up a small fish from the top of the water, catching it between its bill. The bird flew over to a boulder on the shore line to hurriedly eat its meal.
The action was instinctual for the seagull, similar to how it was fairly natural for an alpha to hunt for their pack's food. For Youngjo, hunting came to him so effortlessly. Providing for him and Hwanwoong has never been an issue. He was able to carry out his duties as a true alpha since the beginning.
But then why was it so hard for Hwanwoong to act as a true omega like he had been taught?
As an omega, he's supposed to properly mate with his alpha and carry pups to term, but he can't seem to do those things right. Now, he carries the fear of conceiving only to possibly lose the baby again. He couldn't go through that twice.
Hwanwoong can't help but feel guilty for what occured between him and Youngjo the previous night. His alpha was only trying to be intimate with him after a long time, but Hwanwoong pushed him away, quite harshly at that. And the reason for it, Hwanwoong was still trying to wrap his head around it all. Why did he tense up so suddenly at his alpha's touch?
The omega sighed and laid back in the sand, enjoying how the sun kissed every part of his uncovered skin. He decided he would just rest here for a while. He had some time while Leedo and Keonhee were away at the marketplace and Youngjo was busy setting some new traps... or so he thought.
Just as he started to doze, a very familiar voice spoke softly over the sound of the waves. "Can I join you?"
Hwanwoong blinked, readjusting his eyes to the bright sun to look up at his alpha that stood over him. He looked exhausted and sad, which only amplified Hwanwoong's guilt since the alpha stayed out of the hut overnight, completely exposed to the elements. It was a chilly night.
The omega nodded slowly.
He watched as his alpha quietly settled on the sand beside him, laying on his back as well and only looking up at the bright blue sky.
At first, Youngjo didn't say anything. They just laid together, soaking in the ultraviolet rays. Hwanwoong is sure that Youngjo is thinking about what happened the night before just as much as he is, debating on how to approach the topic.
When the silence was almost deafening, Hwanwoong sat upright. "I-"
"I-" They both started at the same time. "You go first," Youngjo insisted.
"No, you." Hwanwoong said, his face growing warm, but not from the sun. It was crazy how much of an effect his mate had on him still. His alpha still flustered him.
Youngjo cleared his throat. "I'm sorry... for last night." He seemed to be deciphering the right words in his head. He exhaled from his nose. "I'm sorry for not making sure you were comfortable before making any advances... I just... miss being close to you."
Hwanwoong turned his head toward Youngjo to see the alpha already looking at him. The last sentence clearly had a double meaning, and the hurt look on his face made Hwanwoong feel even worse. And if he was honest, he missed being close to his alpha too, but there was always that fear stopping him from letting things go too far.
"Please, talk to me." Youngjo pleaded when the omega didn't initially say anything. Hwanwoong was having an internal battle with his own emotions.
"I m-miss being close to you too..." Hwanwoong picked at his nails, "I don't know, I just... I can't yet... it's too soon." He looked down toward the sand, focusing on the individual grains instead of his alpha's most likely disappointed face.
