Lila's pov

When I was young, I used to go to the circus every year. I loved the circus more than anything. my favorite thing about the circus was the lions and popcorn.

the lion tamer was always so confident and never showed any fear while around the big cats. neither was the lion tamers young assistant as he threw pieces of meat into the big cats mouth. the young boy looked to be about my age and had curly brown hair that moved when he threw the meat.

we stopped going to the circus after my mothers medical bills got to expensive and had no money to spare. my mother passed away after her battle with the disease that made her lose her mind. those were the hardest two years of my life. my mother was my best friend, I would never in a million years wish her to be that sick.

I got a job as a waitress at a small diner when I was of age to work. I did anything to get away from my father. after my mother died he was a mess. drinking constantly and bringing home dirty prostitutes. although he still worked a job, after he bought what he needed to live we barely had money to pay our bills. I would help pay sometimes but I was saving my money. ever since I was 13 I have been saving money to move out of the house that doesn't feel like home anymore.

my father was sicking to be around, so I try not to hang around home as much. I have to ride a bike back a forth to wherever I need to go. which included work, grocery store, or wherever I have to go.

I buttoned up my uniform that had the diners name on the pocket. my uniform was a knee length dress that was black and had white buttons. I grabbed my white Keds and tied them into a bow. my name tag that read Lila, was on my dresser and I pinned it into my uniform. I looked into the small mirror against the wall and brushed my long black hair. I walked into the empty long hall and walked into the living room.

"And where are you going" my father slurred from the old dirty couch.

"I'm going to work, where else would I go?" I ask sarcastically and grabbed my sweater and bag off the coat rack.

"whatever whore." my father spits at me and takes another swig of his alcohol.

"why don't you just go drink until you pass out?" I say opening then slamming the door behind me.

I walked over to the old wooden shed and pulled my bike out of the dark. I put my bike and sweater into the basket Infront of the handlebars. I began to pedal away from my own personal house of horrors. I drove through the middle of town and looked at all the people walking through the town. I rode peacefully on the side of the road until I reached the little diner.

I parked my bike behind the small building and grabbed my stuff, then went in through the back door. my apron was hanging on the wall next to a picture of employee of the month: me. I tied the apron and grabbed a pen and notepad. I walked through the kitchen and said hello to the kitchen staff as I got to the front.

"hello Lila." said a grey headed woman named Annie, who worked behind the cash register.

"hi Annie." I smiled as I looked at the almost empty diner.

"table five just got here, could you get their order?" Annie asked me typing on the machine.

"yep." I said and smiled at the old lady as i made my way to the table.

the table was an old couple and I greeted them and prepared to take their order. I scribbled down their order and gave it to a cook in the kitchen. I got the couple their drinks and took a coffee pot and filled up their mugs. I waited 15 minutes and I filled up their cups once, then their order was ready and I took it to the table. the couple had everything they needed so I set behind the bar waiting for customers. I noticed on the wall a poster. I walked to see the colorful, yet small poster.
