When you're depressed or have anxiety or any mental illness or are just suffering from something really sad and painful, you immediately want to feel relieved and you want to make the pain go away. You'd rather feel something else or you'd rather be numb. Because of that, a lot of people just go to drugs, alcohol, anything chemical, really. But it's mostly if you're very antisocial or just left on your own a lot.

You'd rather escape to a different world that seems so real in your mind. The easiest way is to have a toxin in your system but it's not a good choice at all. It could just worsen your state. You'll feel yourself wanting it more and more and soon will become addicted. You want to hold on to happiness and any feeling other than sadness but don't want to socialize or talk to anybody. And because of that, all you do is resort to drug after drug. Go from one alcohol to the next.

Sometimes you claim to just do it for fun but it's mostly because you want to escape. For example, ecstasy can make you go to a positive state of mind and a lot of people like being there. Just to have good vibes and actually feel good for once but it's not healthy. If you are addicted to drugs or anything or even drink alcohol, you should stop. It's really not a good idea.

We try to distract our brains and alcohol and things like that make it easy but it also harms us. A lot. We can easily just wither away and become worse. Because of the effects that alcohol and drugs have on us, we could end up having more insecurities than what we started with and start developing even more problems. When that happens, we usually just give up. And you don't want to lean in that direction, right? You want to relieve yourself and have faith again. You wanna be saved. You're crying for help but it feels as though the substance is your only friend. It's not. There are other ways to keep your mind occupied and to get to another world other than the one you're living in.

You can get more hobbies. You can read more fiction and live in the world someone else created or you could write and draw and make your ideas come to life. Or maybe you could watch some TV and enjoy the stories and worlds in a visual form. And try to put your full attention into what you're doing because your mind usually wanders and we can't have that because all it does is go back to the negative thoughts. Of course, when doing these things, you have to pick genres that don't include sad and heart-wrenching or morbid things. Pick a different genre and see if you like it. Don't go for the dark stuff.

The advice I give you if you are addicted to any substance is try to get clean. It is possible. Try it in little bits at a time and see the improving results! If your mind ever wanders over to abusing a substance again, make sure you kick that thought hard in the ass and go busy your mind with something else like exercising. Exercise is actually one of the best ways to get rid of depression. Get more active even if your body won't allow you. An active and healthy body equals a positive and healthy mind. Just try it❤

Now we got a good old quote from good old Demi😉

One of the hardest things was learning that I was worth recovery.
