Chapter 2: Morning

Note/s: Erm... Continuing the following morning after the conversation with Louis and Clementine last night.

Clem and AJ had woken up and gotten out of bed. It was a cold morning, they were lucky that the school had so many spare clothes and blankets. Clem and AJ were making their way to the courtyard that they had eaten in last night. for their breakfast.

Clem held the door that leads to the courtyard open for AJ and closed it after she walked through. There was a morning silence in the courtyard which almost made seem like everyone had just woken up.

A voice broke the quiet, it was Louis. "Hey Clem, AJ!" he said across the courtyard, "You can sit here." He gestured towards two free seats to the right of him.

She walked over to him with AJ behind her and sat down on the wooden bench. "So erm, what's for breakfast?" Clem asked.

Louis didn't respond but just looked down to the table in front of him, where there were two slices of bread with some sort of reddish-purple spread on them. Clementine just stared at him insisting for an answer.

"Wha-, What do you think?" said Louis Chuckling.

"Alright, I see, fair enough," responded Clem also chuckling, "But where can I get some for AJ?"

"So, Usually we go to Omar, he gets up early and decides what we are having for breakfast, lunch and dinner." Said Louis.

"You guys have enough food for lunch?" AJ asked excitedly.

"Yes," Said Louis, "And since it's your first morning here where you are conscious Clem, I'll grab some breakfast for you and AJ"

"AJ? What do you say?" Clem asked him.

"Thank You!" AJ replied.

"Thanks, Louis," Clem said softly but gratefully.

Everyone had finished their food and Clem and AJ made their way up to Marlon's office to talk about making their presence permanent. Louis had his fingers tightly crossed as he watched them walk away. "I know why you want Clem to stay so badly..." Violet teased as she walked by him. Louis's cheeks went pink, but he squinted his eyes as if he was confused to try and hide it.

"Don't worry, your secret is safe with me," she reassured.

Clem and AJ walked into Marlon's office, It was massive. The room was littered with portraits and art. There was an exquisite desk, and on top of it was a hand-drawn map that looked like it was made with crayons. In the room, there was another door that leads to a balcony that overlooked the whole courtyard. There was a comfy-looking, leather, swivelly chair that had a person on top of it. It was Marlon. Clem got straight to the point and asked him "Will you let us stay?"

"Yes," Marlon said.

"We can stay?!" AJ happily shouted.

"Well, I wasn't going to throw you out!" Marlon chuckled, "And anyway, I couldn't do that to Louis."

"What?" Clem asked.

"Um..." Marlon said awkwardly. Changing the subject he said, "Since you will be two extra mouths to feed you'll have to help us with our food situation."

"That seems like a good deal." Clem agreed, "So... How can we help?"

Marlon gestured towards the map, and began "You can either go fishing with Violet and Brody." He pointed at the lake. "Or, you can go hunting with Louis and Aasim."

Clem was conflicted because, on the one hand, she wanted to go with Louis. After all, he seemed the most friendly, but on the other, it felt like she had been hunting her whole life. She stayed silent whilst she thought.

Marlon noticed that she couldn't decide and said: "You can choose later, y'know when we leave."

"Thanks, Marlon," Clem said.

Marlon nodded and AJ and Clem walked out and to the courtyard. Louis was waiting for them by the door. The door opened and Louis asked "So...?"

"So what?" Clem replied.

"So, can you stay?" Louis continued.

"Yep!" Clementine said joyfully.

"That's great!" said Louis, "Got time for a card game?"

"Yep," Clem said again.
