"Are you feeling any better?"
She nodded more vigorously this time, and my anxieties were quelled. She felt a more normal temperature, her face holding a bit of healthy color. I bent down, pressing my lips to hers, feeling how charged the air became in that one second span. She arched her back, bringing herself closer to me as my tongue traced her bottom lip. She shivered, and I pulled away with a chuckle.
Face flushed even more, she bit her lip.
"How long have you had a crush on me? Honest answers only," I teased, feeling the tension slowly ooze from my body. I could shove aside everything else when she was in my arms, for some reason. She pushed against my chest in a playful manner, rolling her eyes.
"Ahh, since the day we met. Figures," I said, feeling cocky. She clapped her hands to her face, shaking her head as she dragged them down her cheeks.
"Since our first disastrous kiss?" I asked, quirking a brow, enjoying this little game. She gave me a funny look, shaking her head again.
"You hated me that day, didn't you?"
No, she mouthed, serious, brows furrowing.
"So when was it, for you? I'm curious," I said, running my hand along her back, forcing myself to stop just above her ass. She frowned, seeming to think a bit before she signed.
The day I came here to work for you.
"Why that day?" I asked, sort of confused at the timing of it all. She gave a small shrug, staring up into my eyes. I waited as she hesitated, before signing, much slower this time as she sifted through her thoughts.
Because I saw you had every chance to...
She paused, shaking her head. I gave her another squeeze, wishing for her to continue.
"Tell me," I whispered. Her watery eyes found mine once more, cheeks flushed.
You had me alone, had me drunk...told me you wanted to fuck me...and never even touched me.
"So...that translated into a crush?" I asked, sort of perplexed.
It helped
I gave her a half smile.
And I think you're really hot, she signed so fast I almost missed it, her cheeks flaming. I barked out a laugh, bouncing us both.
"Knew it," I teased. She rolled her eyes.
"Was it the tattoos, or the physique?"
Everything, she signed without hesitation. I quirked my brow, laughing again.
"God, you're fucking cute. Careful, you keep up with these compliments, and I'll strip you down and—"
She swatted at me before I could fluster her further as I chuckled, pressing my lips to her forehead.
"You'd like it, I promise."
She gave a half shrug, seeming to curl in on herself, her thoughts turning dark. Before I could stop myself, I blurted out my question.
"He didn't—did he?" I asked, my heart hammering. Her wild eyes found mine as she shook her head quickly. In her gaze was the truth. I relaxed a fraction. Honestly, it sort of surprised me the fucker hadn't done that to her. He was as crazy as they came. Lost in my reverie, I almost missed her motions.
He would have, I think, but I was too injured...
I bit my cheek to keep from saying something I regretted.
