A Spooky Beginning?

Start from the beginning

As promised, Rosa got the lamps from her little sister's room. Five of them. Google "moon led lamp" and you'll know what they look like. Spherical lamps resembling the moon. Why a little kid would have five moon lamps, you have no idea. Rosa made them all your favorite color and placed them around the room.

You'd calmed down by the time the movie started, having convinced yourself you're just crazy. Y'all ended up actually watching Evil Shark Man 2. It was about a walking shark-man hybrid monster. The CGI sucked and the acting was atrocious, but Rosa was surprisingly invested... and terrified. Leslie could barely hold back a laugh when she covered her eyes before a 'cheap jumpscare'. The movie didn't interest you much, but seeing as your friends were having so much fun you decided not to say anything.

You reached into the snack bowl only to be disappointed that it was empty.

"I'll get more snacks," you stood up with the bowl.

"Do you want us to go with you?" asked Leslie. They were really making a big deal out of this...

"Nah, I'll be fine. Plus, I'll call out to you if the shark man attacks me," you joked.

"Alright, well... Should we pause the movie?" Rosa asked.

"No need. I'll be right back," you disappeared through the doorway, taking your phone out of your pocket and using it as a flashlight.

You turned the flashlight off, putting your phone on the counter. The kitchen window was pretty big, letting in plenty of the full moon's light. You could see what the hell you were doing.

You dug through Rosa's cupboard, looking for candy, chips, beans or whatever. You found candy corn, those valentines "be mine" heart candies, and PRINGLES HOT & SPICY. Sweet.

You got yourself a blue Moomin cup, deciding water could do you some good. You know what they say: a cup 'o water a day keeps the auditory hallucinations away.

You've never heard anyone say that. That was kind of dumb.

The window, situated in front of the sink, looked over your friend's backyard. You got lost in thought as you stared out into the peaceful night. Looking at the trees, flowers, the full moon and the stars. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and due to the power outage you could see those twinkling fuckers litter the sky like trash in the ocean. Meaning they were plentiful. Maybe you three should've went stargazing... would it be okay for you to go out this late at night? It was a pretty safe neighborhood, but still... some monsters can get this far into the city.

Ice cold water flowed out of the cup and down your fingers. "Whoops," you poured a little down the drain and dried your hands along with the outside of the cup.

Your phone started buzzing. Probably a notification.

Another buzz. Shit, did you leave your phone on vibrate?

You placed your cup on the counter. Who could be calling you at this-

As you reached for your phone, it jumped onto the floor, buzzing wildly. Its screen flickered at it flipped violently.

Shit. If a ghost was possessing your phone, you just hoped it wouldn't break it!

As you reached for your juddering phone, a hand reached back out of the screen. You jumped back, pulling your hand close. This isn't regular ghost behavior.

You'd seen enough horror movies to know where this was going. You stepped farther back, your gaze fixated on the glowing figure squeezing out of the tiny screen. You opened a drawer and grabbed the fist thing your hand touched: a butter knife.
