A Spooky Beginning?

Start from the beginning

"It says here that Doppelgänger is a well-known horror movie, so I think it's fair we watch one of the horror movies [Y/N] already picked," she grabbed your list.

Rosa's head snapped up. "What? No way, we agreed to let the computer pick."

Leslie ignored her and scanned the list. "Oh, wait... all of the horror movies [Y/N] picked are lame..."

"Rude!" you snatched the list back. "My picks aren't lame, you're lame!"

Rosa yelped in surprise as the house went dark, except for the light coming from the computer screen and the moonlight shining through her bedroom window.

"Did the power seriously just go out? At our sleepover?" you complained.

"This actually kinda sets the mood, don't you think?" Leslie slung her arm over your shoulders.

"No, this sucks!" Rosa stood up and walked over to the window. "It's not just my house. The neighbors seem to have the same problem... I guess all we can do is wait."

"Hey, it'll be much scarier this way! Just us, the movie, and strange shadows all around us!" Leslie ended the sentence with jazz hands.

Rosa shook her head. "I don't even like horror movies. Cheap jumpscares, dumbass protagonists, unrealistic gore... Besides, I want [Y/N] to be able to sleep tonight."

You scoffed. "The hell do you mean by-"

"Nope, not a word. Let's just watch a Disney movie or something," she got back in bed and began picking away at the computer.

Your other friend leaned over to you. "[Y/N], what do you want to watch?"

You paused in deep thought. Sure, a scary movie would be fun, but Rosa didn't want to watch one. All of you somewhat liked Disney movies, so you decided it'd be the best choice.

"I say we watch something scary," your voice came, loud and clear, but not from your own mouth. It came from underneath you.

You jumped up and looked at the spot where you were sitting. Nothing. Only wrinkly sheets. You bravely checked under the bed, too. Nothing.

"... oookay. Well, just so you guys know, I hate you," Rosa opened another tab. "Leslie, what 'horror' movies are on the list?"

"Hmm, let's see... uh, nothing good, really. I guess Evil Shark Man 2 is okay."

"That movie sounds incredibly stupid," Rosa grumbled.

"Rosa!" Leslie gasped, a clearly-fake concerned expression on her face. "You're not afraid of sharks, are you???"

Rosa side-eyed her, not amused. Leslie burst out laughing at that.

She sighed. "Fine. Evil Shark Man 2 it is."

At this point you had decided you were just delusional or something. It was definitely your voice, coming from your mouth. You were just tired or something.

"You okay?" you flinched as Leslie touched your arm.

"I-... heh, I think I may be going crazy?" you semi-joked. The expressions on your friends' faces showed that it wasn't a very good one.

"Hey, we don't have to watch a horror movie, [Y/N]," Leslie took your hand in hers, squeezing it reassuringly.

"No, it's not that... I just thought I heard something."

"Are you afraid of the dark?" Rosa asked. "My sister has a couple of pre-charged LED lamps. I could go get one? Maybe two?"

"... okay, sure. Thanks," you said, really too embarrassed to tell them why you're freaked out. Stupid silly late-night mind tricks...
