They say the sky was on fire, but it wasn't just the sky — it was the air — it was everything. I remember the way the ash rained down, drifting slowly to the earth like large, gray snowflakes. The world seemed hollow then, not as it does now, all vivid with the colors of violence. No, it was different. It was something truly special, something pure. I wanted to lay down on my back in the middle of that vacant street and stare up at the dark sky, between the rooftops of those charred buildings, and close my eyes so that I could feel the ash gently collecting on my face. After all, it was everything that remained of our loved ones from the past world. In fact, it was them — their bodies, their dreams, their rules, and their society. It was all lost, turned to ash, and we the survivors that pressed on forward to etch out this new world, had turned to ash as well. Come and See.

"You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost Its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men."- Matthew 5:13
