You were the first light of day seeping in from my dusty window. You were a warmth I was so alienated about.
I was the lilac sky at sundown. Fleeting yet beautiful; someone you couldn't keep your hands off.
We melted in an array of perfectly set rainbows and thunderstorms. Mismatched. Misguided. Unappealing in their prying eyes.
You were the first to notice the incompatibility that was screaming at us in red, bold letters.
I was the first to let those scarlet blades embed in my skin — slowly letting my insecurities flood the floor.
Now, whenever the dust settles on my window and the sky doesn't look as pretty as it used to be, I'll inhale the lingering regret from the pit of my stomach.
