"Welcome home, Mer." "Nice to see you too, old man. Miss me?"

He father was waiting to pick her at King's Cross Station. Which was a miracle in itself, from the fact that he had barely written to her the whole semester. Hadn't even written in to check on her when she was in the h hospital wing recovering from the Battle of the Department of Mysteries ( it had an official name now ). But at least he was here. For now. He owned a luxurious corner apartment in the heart of London for his convenience since he practically spent all of his time at the Ministry so he'd likely drop her off at the Darling Manor before speeding back to the city. Leaving her all alone again.

The drive into the countryside was rather quiet, only the gentle rumble of the engine and her father occasionally cursing at another driver could be heard the entire time. At least, this was the height of the awkwardness she had to endure for the summer as it would just be her and her thoughts soon enough. However, against Meredith's expectations, as she unloaded her own ( heavy ) trunk from the back, father unloaded his very own trunk and shut off the car. Huh.
