Gerard and Mikey Way, the two brothers grew up in Belleville, New Jersey. Their life was a simple one, their parents were most often then not at work, so they were brought up by there grandmother.
Anyone who knew Elena would say that she's the most kind and caring person in all of New Jersey. The Way brothers could agree more. So you can imagine everyone's shock when they found the sweet old lady dead in her small cottage.
Gerard was only 9 and Mikey 8 when this happened. The only thing that Donna and Donald Way could tell their children was: "Grandma is in a better place now" and "She went away, to a nicer place".
But one question still remained on everyone's mind: "Who killed Elena? And why?"
Only 4 years after the devastating death would Gerard and Michael Way find out the truth.

"What do you mean powers!? Like the superheroes of my comic books!?" gasped Gerard in excitement.
"Wait- we can be like Batman!?" asked a little Mikey, his eyes sparkling with hope.
Donna laughed at her sons' reactions.
"No, not powers like that sillies,"
"Then what type of powers?" asked the older of the two.
"Elemental powers, like that one show on Nickelod-"
"Avatar!?" asked the two boys with stars in their eyes.
"Yes, that one" the mother laughed once again.
"Wait if people have powers like in Avatar then why don't we see it?" asked Mikey as he looked up at his mother.
"It's fallen out of rotation. Humans abused their power so the people in charge took them away, not completely but made it so they'd never be able to use them. Nowadays only a few people know about their existence, and even fewer posse them."
"That makes senseso grandma died because she had powers?" asked Gerard looking down at his feet, avoiding eye contact with his mom since he knew it was a touchy subject in the Way household.
"It wasn't cause she had powers, it was cause she was the guardian of her power."
"Guardian?" asked the young one.
"Guardians are the people in charge of each specific power" explained the mother.
"So grandma Elena was important!?" questioned both boys at the same time.
"Very!" she smiled at her sons "You two will one day also get your powers!"
"Do we know what powers will get?" asked Gerard.
"Well~" she started "I could tell you, but where's the fun in that!" she finished booping both of her sons' noses.
"Mom, come on!" whined the older boy.
"I can say for sure sweetie, it's all genetical so i don't really have a say in it."
"Aw, I wanted to know." frowned the little Mikey.
"You will know eventually darling," she reassured her son "Anyway, mommy has to start making dinner. You two go do your homework!"
"Ok mom." said both kids in a annoyed tone.
