As Five drove, Lena couldnt help but tap her hands rhythmically on her thighs to calm herself down. She just had an awful feeling about what they were going to do.

The entire journey to the middle of nowhere was done in silence, the both of them stuck pondering all the ways in which it could go horribly wrong. The closer they got to the concept of liasing with the Handler, the less still Lena could keep. Knees bouncing, hands tapping, cracking her knuckles, chewing her fingernails. All she felt was dread.

Eventually Five parked them on the side of a road in between fields, the nearest bus stop miles away from where they'd agreed to meet Hazel and Cha-Cha.

As the engine cut off, the two of them refused to break the silence, it encompassing them. The anticipation was killing them.

Eventually, in the wait for the other two assassins to show up, Lena broke it quietly.

"Why can't we just kill the gardener?"

He sighed heavily, resting his head back and turning towards her. In his eyes, a tiredness that refused to let up. "Look, I'm regretting it too but it's too late to back out now."

She knew this. Of course she did. But she was still going to complain.

"I hate this."

"I know."

"I hate her."

"I do too."

"Maybe it's best you do all the talking," she suggested, turning in her seat so her body was facing his. "When I do it all I seem to get out of it is trouble."

He hummed in agreement. "I always have been better with words."

"I'm great with words. People just don't like them."

He twitched a smile. She did too, and they sat in a heavier silence once more. It wasn't uncomfortable, but her anxiety was rising as time ticked on. She had gone over in her head a million times how this was meant to pan out, but her skull was still being bombarded with all the what ifs.

She looked up at the sound of another cars engine, very faint. A car slowly got closer and Five tapped the steering wheel.

"Here we go," he said, opening his door and stepping out.

Lena's leg stopped bouncing and she did the same, reaching down below the dash to pull out the fake briefcase. It was the same colour and shape as their work ones, just slightly different leather finish and locking mechanism. Tiny details that they could only pray Hazel and Cha-Cha wouldn't notice.

Her shoulder brushed his as she stood close to him and he gave her a half smile that she was sure was meant to instill some confidence.

It did not.

And she didn't think it did for Five either.

He looks down at her and said quietly, a solemn look on his face. "Lena, if this goes wrong... I'm sorry."
