♆ Chapter 28 • Sealing Their Fate ♆

Ethan looks offended. "What?"

"Am I forbidden?"

"Yes." Xander crosses his arms.

Ryder purrs and kisses Xander's chest. "I guess I can settle on not knowing."

"I am objectively better. How is this a debate?" Ethan throws his hands in the air. "You only experienced a drunk kiss, Ry." He stands. "Come here."

A knock sounds at the door. "Ch-Charlie, c-can I talk to you?"

"Come in," I call to him.

Toby walks in and stops. "Were you having a gathering?"

Ethan takes his hands off Ryder's face, an inch away. "Of sorts."

Ryder retreats behind Xander.

I motion Toby over and he sits beside me, wringing his hands. "What are the Decharts doing?"

"Kissing." 

"Hope you left Tony with a babysitter." Ethan scoffs.

"Are you okay, Toby?" Ryder asks. "Would you prefer to be alone with Charlie?"

"Uh..." He gets closer to me. "I uh... no..."

Ethan sits next to me and Ryder comes to Toby's other side.

Toby shrinks. "Did I do something wrong?"

"No, they wish to kiss you." I explain.

"What? Why?"

Ryder blushes more. "No, no, we're just concerned. No more kissing."

"I'm scared of the land. W-What if Tony wants to stay? What if there is a better human, or worse—a naiad—that he falls for? Do I havewhatittakestobegood?'

"You could always chain him up on the lower decks." Ethan offers and Ryder glares at him before taking Toby's hand.

"Toby...there's no way to know what's to come, but Tony's not one to abandon the people he's loyal to. Not without good reason. If he truly cares for you, I don't think he's going to find someone better in the few hours we're here. You're incredible and he loves you."

He blushes. "I love him too. He brings me happiness."

"You should tell him that you're feeling self conscious," I suggest.

"Okay. Thank you." He plays with his hair. "But why kiss?"

Ethan chuckles. "We want to know who's the better kisser. Ry or me."

"Maybe I should ask Tony... he was upset Ethan had kissed me before."

"Dick." Ethan huffs.

"Hypocrite." Ryder shoots back.

"I'm sorry, are you defending Tony?" Ethan raises his eyebrows.

"Do not start."

"He may be looking for you," I say. "You can ask him when he gets here." 

Funnily enough, I spot him wandering around the deck through the doorway.

"Tony!" Ethan shouts and the man zeros in on us and comes inside.

"The fuck, Toby? Why'd you run off like that at the sight of the dock?" Tony asks.

"I got scared that I'd be replaced and now Ethan and Ryder want to kiss me to see who is superior."

Tony's look of concern changes to amusement. "It's Ethan."

Ryder pouts. "How dare you."

"Told ya." Ethan smirks.
