STILES' FIRST GAME

Start from the beginning

Melissa who just walked in stands next to Stiles.

"What?" She says confused.

"'Mankind-- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.'" Coach continues.

"What the hell is he talking about?" Melissa turns to hers sons best friend.

"He does this every year." Stiles tells her.

"Seriously?" She asks.

If she didn't think Booby Finstock was weird before she definitely does now.

"Yeah..." Stiles nods at her.

Finstock continues his dramatic speech. "'We are fighting for our right to live!'"

"Yeah!" One of the players in the room yells out.

"Wait, is this...?" Melissa recognizes where the speech is from.

"Yeah. It's the speech from Independence Day." Stiles nods at her.

"'But, as the day the world declared in one voice—'" Coach says.

"It's Coach's favorite movie." Stiles tells his friends mom.

"'We will not go quietly into the night!'" Coach tells the team.

"He doesn't know any sports speeches?" Melissa asks Stiles.

Stiles shakes his head at the women he thinks of as a mother. "I don't think he cares."

"'Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!'" Coach yells finishing his speech.

"YEAH!" The team yells out simultaneously.

Gerard then walks out from behind the Coach.

Both Stiles and Scott try to avoid eye contact.
"Well spoken, Coach. I might have chosen something with a little more historical value, but there's no denying your passion. And, while I haven't been here long, there's no denying my pride in having a winning team for this school. I know you'll all be brilliant tonight, even with only one co-captain leading you. Now, I'm your principal, but I'm also a fan... So, don't think I'll be content to watch you merely beat this team. Get out there and murder them." Gerard says getting dark by the end of his speech.

"You heard the man! Asses on the field!" Coach yells to the team.

"Yeah!" The team yells running out.

Scott is the only that stays behind.

"Coach, are you benching me?" Scott asks his Coach shocked.

"It's not my decision." Coach sighs.

"But I have to play—" Scott tries.

Coach interjects. "McCall, you're failing three classes. Academics come first."

"Coach, you don't get it-- you have to let me play." Scott tells him.

"McCall, no. Not tonight. Tonight, you're on the bench." Coach tells him tiredly.

Scott sighs as now he doesn't know what's gonna happen without him on the field.

Sitting on the players bench is Stiles and Scott.

"Your dad coming?" Scott asks his friend.

Stiles nods. "Yeah, he's already here."

"You seen Allison?" Scott asks Stiles.

Stiles shakes his head. "No. You seen Cass?"

"Not yet." Scott tells him.

"You know what's going on?" Stiles asks him trying not to worry about Cass not being there yet.
