ii. backroad flowers

28 12 4

a dusted sage meadow

bathed in soft dusks

speckled with

tangerine poppies

as sunlight trickles

through shadowed oaks

on lonely plains

climbing over

rotting fences as

a gentle wind sweeps

swallowtails eastwards

towards jaded mountaintops

peace descending

on suncup plains

lying in the meadow

goldenstars tickling my nose

warm grasses giving me

a bittersweet embrace

lavender daisies curling

around my heart

a final farewell

from the lands

away from the sea

the amethyst mountains

don't call my name anymore

the dawn dappled streams

have soothed my roiling heart

the eastern horizons

have smothered away

as i look westwards

at the golden washed sun

i lie down

a little longer

relishing the embrace

of magenta clovers

and soft goldenrods

pretty backroad flowers

with only one thought

on my mind

i'm coming home
