It lay in her hands, the pamphlet. The dreaded waste of paper and ink that shattered her.
She'd always thought of herself as strong, maybe all the time around Angelica had prompted her to replicate her shell but she thought she'd be able to deal with it.
Apparently not.
She'd heard the rumours, she'd heard the tales, of his escapades with his supposed best friend. She knew his heart wasn't hers the way hers was his, but she thought she could change that.
Apparently not.
She watched the fire burn the relics of their love as the pain burnt at her heart. She smelt the burning ink of the letters he replicated for another woman and she wept.
She wept for every day of their courtship and every night he'd spent away. She wept for every minute she'd spent trying to convince him to take the break his body so desperately craved. She wept for their children, who had to grow up with the scandal this would surely create, for her sister - who she'd been to caught up to properly mourn. For the country, who was being tainted by such a man,
And herself, for she knew that despite it all she still loved him. She loved his intelligent eyes and passionate heart, she loved every moment of their futile relationship like it'd been the hands that raised her and she missed it with all her soul.
So she sat, drowning in her own self pity as the fire roared - feeding off the remains of her lost love, longing for its touch, feeling herself die with it.
She'd thought she would hate him after all he's done.
Apparently not.
