I moaned. My head was pounding, and my vision was black. My eyes hurt too much to open. It wasn't the kind of burning pain that I had felt before. It was the kind of pain you feel when someone flashes a bright light into your eyes. I let out another groan. I sat up with my eyes still closed. I poked around the place I was sitting. I noticed that what I had been sitting on was very soft..?

"Oh, you're awake!" A male voice exclaimed. I couldn't help but turn towards where the sound had come. It was buttery smooth. The voice sounded like it belonged to a young man in his early to mid-twenties. The man's scent was unlike any I had ever smelled before. Yes, people scents were all unique, but most newcomers are the villagers' family members. There were only a few times when other people would come to the small town. Unfortunately, nobody ever stayed long, due to the unusual nature of the people that lived there.

"Are you alright? Oh, right," the voice said again. I heard the sound of footsteps crossed the room. Then a soft metallic clank was next to me. The sound of curtains being closed had filled the room. The pain in my eyes had subsided. I let out a quiet sigh. I opened my eyes slowly and noticed that I was sitting on a large, soft bed. The covers were dark purple with a crescent moon, which was a strange blend of violet and indigo. The shams were black, and the sheets were velvet. My eyes went to the backboard of the bed. The wood was dark, and there was a small nightstand made out of the same kind of wood. On it sat a small tray of food and water.

The room had a hardwood floor. The wall behind me was light purple, and the other walls were light gray. I looked at the man who had closed the curtains. He had straight, black hair and bangs that covered her right eye. His visible eye was purple. He wore a black hoodie with a fluffy hood, a loose white tee-shirt, and a purple beanie with a yellow crescent moon clipped on the side. He had blue jeans and black and white sneakers. He stood next to the reddish-purple curtains that she had closed. He opened her mouth to speak, "I'm sorry I forgot that you were a shadow demon. I should have left the curtains closed." He sounded slightly embarrassed. He had an almost fatherly aura, and it made me pay attention to him. "Who are you?" I asked, painfully unaware of who this man was.

I am, admittedly, not as attentive as I should have been in school. I was worse when it would come to learn about the gods. I tended to zone out during classes at school. Therefore, I only knew the basic facts that everybody had drilled into me from birth. When my teachers would ask me questions about them, but I knew just enough, I could fabricate my knowledge on them. The subject had never interested me. None of the students ever knew why the gods ask for sacrifices, but no one dared ask the teachers in fear of a lecture. We have all heard it. They all went the same. If we didn't make offerings or honor the gods, they would punish us by cursing the land or people.

I looked at him, and I heard myself asking, "I'm sorry, do I know you?" My voice echoed slightly due to the mouths on my cheeks. He smiled warmly and shook her head. "No, you do not know personally. Although you might have heard of me, you don't seem like the kind of person that likes to learn from school," I chuckled and nodded. I hated learning from second-hand sources. I'd much rather learn about things myself. My teachers always hated my curiosity. "I like that about a person," the man continued, "Everyone needs a healthy dose of curiosity." He smiled at me warmly. He grabbed the tray that was on the nightstand. I looked closer at it. A few slices of bread with butter on them, mashed potatoes in a small bowl, a gravy tub. And finally a tall glass of water. He gently gave the tray to me and told me to eat. I smiled at him gratefully. I was so hungry, and the food smelled so good.

The food tasted just as good as it smelled, if not better. I cleaned the plate in a few minutes. Though my jaw hurt slightly from having to keep my mouths closed to make sure none of my food fell out while I was chewing. I rubbed my sore cheeks. "Are you all right?" the man asked with concern. I nodded. "Do you have any masks? I don't really like showing my mouths,"

"Of course I do. I can get it for you and bring it to your room. Go upstairs two flights, to the left. You will then see your door the fourth to the right of the hall," he responded. I got up and went to the door and opened it. I looked from side to side, not knowing which direction the stairs were. I looked back at the man inquisitively. He chuckled nervously and pointed to the stairs.

"What is your name? Mine is Violet," I told him. I turned my head slightly, almost out the door. I looked at his one purple eye. Except, it was electric blue. He closed her eye. He inhaled sharply. He opened her eye again, and it was purple once again. "My given name is Demi. Some people call me father, but please, call me Lunar." His voice was monotone, and he sounded sad.
